True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle Life in America in the 1800s was that children as young as 6 or 8 years old might have worked in the mill or factory. Many kids in the rough part of the country might have worked on farms along with the grownups. The work day started before the sun came out. Girls spent most of their day cooking and milking goats or cows. They also helped there elderly family members. Life as a sailor in the 1800s were very hard on calm days there was almost nothing to eat. And when it would rain there were harsh winds and heavy rain. You must have had to do your work well to survive. Shipboard rules were harsh in the 1800s. Captains were sometimes removed for not being aggressive enough to their crews. While others
were abounded by their crews. Most captains were elected by the ship crews. Boarding school was not that harsh it was were pupils studied and lived for the school year. On school holidays or just holidays they return home to their families. The next day they return. Boarding school grades are like high school grades. Ninth through twelve. They varies in their organizations. It was not that bad for the 1800s. At least that is my opinion .

For those who worked in factories with heavy, dangerous machinery, they were prone to accidents or even death. It is typically easier for a grown man to lift a regular pick than it is for a young girl because of the physical development and obvious age difference. This made a huge improvement in the education of the children because they had to go to school for two hours a day at the minimum.
