Wisdom of the Candidates? (idk for a title) “How do you promote school spirit on and off the field? Do you see yourself as a role model and how? What does Tiger Pride mean to you? And finally, how would you describe your high school experience?” These are the simple yet meaningful questions asked to each of the homecoming candidates. All members had similar yet thoughtful answers. When asked, how do you promote school spirit, Thomas Penny stated, “On the field I like to talk up my team saying stuff like, ‘We got this, we’re all good players.’ or ‘Just play for the fans, your friends, your family, mom, dad, brother.’” Others such as Johnny Braniff and Alyssa Bromm agreed that encouraging people to go to games and cheer on athletes was a good way to show spirit. Lucy Green and Julia Feiling, on the other hand, settled on being ‘loud and positive’ for the school was the way to go in showing pride. Caty Gross simply joined in that participating in any activities or just being involved with the school is a winning way to represent the school. …show more content…
Every candidate answered that they did see themselves as a role model to people. Some, such as Johnny Braniff, saw themselves as role models to the class, as he was voted, again, this year into position of class president. Others such as Lucy Green, Ethan Braniff, and Kyle Quick agreed that they wanted to think they were role model candidates for the younger classes and athletes. Julia Feiling exclaimed, “Yes I’m a role model… in life!” Thomas Penny spoke that he guessed he could be a role model in the fact he always tries to stay positive and have a good attitude no matter what life throws at

When I was accepted into the University of Oklahoma, I was not aware of the tradition or prestige that the football team carried. Moreover, I had no idea about the honor it was to don the crimson and cream in the arena of athletics. And, I never envisioned rooming with them. I enjoyed sports, but I loved reading and writing more. Initially, I was focused on building a collegiate career that one day would propel me to my goal of studying law. Yet, the more time I spent interacting with the athletes, the more parallels I noticed between their personalities and mine. Their diligence, perseverance and compassion were all traits that I could identify with since they were reflective of me. For the most part, the majority of the athletes were hungry to achieve and they desired knowledge at all costs; a combination that still resonates with me today.
High school athletics leave a major impact on everybody that is involved with them. It also can even leave a mark on people who aren’t associated with them. There are many conflicting opinions on whether high school sports are a positive or negative influence on a student’s life. Athletics in high school can have an effect on the community as a whole. In H.G. Bisssinger’s highly regarded Friday Night Lights, high school football is accurately portrayed as the most important thing in Texas; it receives much more attention than academics. Football players are often treated like celebrities; yielding confidence, and at the same time creating pressure.
It’s easy to see myself having a truly invigorating college experience at this University, while also diligently keeping up with my school work, and making social connections that I know would last a lifetime. Along with my involvement in other organizations, the possibility of becoming a Hofstra University collegiate cheerleader is an exciting honor that I’m eager to pursue. As a prospective college student, I am expecting a lot from my upcoming college experience, and I believe Hofstra University will surpass my
Mayor Lisa Merkel praised the band members, their staff and chaperons for all the hard work they put into the event. "We are so proud of the Herndon Hornets marching band," Merkel said. "Winning the Grand Champion award is quite an honor! These kids have worked so hard—and it is well deserved." Town council member Melissa Jonas added, "I am bursting with pride this morning. What an amazing journey they had. And they did it all with class…"(Jennifer par.6 Herndon.patch.com).
True role models are those who possess the qualities that we would want to have in the near future and those who interest us in a way that make us want to be a better person. They teach us more about ourselves and encourage us to make better choices. A role model is not just someone who is successful, but someone who has had similar experiences that we have had. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee demonstrates that Atticus Finch is a true role model. Over the course of the novel, Atticus stands up for his beliefs, respects everyone despite who they are and behaves as a true father. Atticus is truly the ideal role model.
I have been a part of multiple pep rallies and am a role model to younger students. One moment, in particular, stands out to me on how much difference I can make in younger children. My new cheer coach had asked if anyone would be interested in volunteering their time to help the middle school squad learning the cheers. Being Varsity Cheer Co-Captain, I was more than happy to oblige. It was a no-brainer to help out because cheer is one of my favorite things. As I laced up my cheer shoes, I glanced up, I noticed the fresh-faced cheerleaders who timidly walked into the gym. They reminded me of me at that age, afraid that they didn't have what it took to be a cheerleader. However, as practices went on, they became more confident in their abilities. Volunteering my time was well worth it, I got to see the cheerleaders grow into more confident cheerleaders and people.
"To be delegated into the HSF Alumni Hall of Fame would be an honor any reasonable person would appreciate. As for me, it is more than the dignity it carries or even the reputation the award it might give off. It is about the responsibility I now carry for my fellow descendants, to give them the dream to pursue their lives and live up to the confrontations of life."
I aspired to play a significant leadership role in all of the activities someday, and over the course of my high school career, I thankfully have. This year as a senior, the student body elected me as the president of Student Council; members of National Honor Society (NHS) did the same; future business leaders elected me as the vice president of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA); and I received the votes to secure the office of secretary in the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter. Coaches and teammates have named me as an important asset as well. Over the years, these opportunities have presented me with many chances to enjoy extracurricular involvement, meet new people, and mature into a
Role models can make a huge difference in a child's life. My Physical Education teacher had a major impact of effecting of what I want to be now. Aleta Jo Crotty helped me to learn to take responsibility for my actions, and in my choices I am in control. By using guidelines that was set by her for my life, I hope to reach just one child.
The past four years have been fun and easy for some and a struggle for others. When I reflect on my high school experience, I think of watching football games, playing softball, homecoming weeks, school trips, parties and time with my friends. Others have spent their time in drama, band, community service, part-time jobs and all sorts of other activities. We have all watched Mr. LHS grow along with us until it became a big part of the high school year. I enjoyed laughing with and at the guys as they showed off their talents. This year’s homecoming football game was one of the most exciting ones we have had, with four quarters and three overtimes when we beat Jackson 48 to 42 for a homecoming victory. No matter what types of experiences we have had, I think they are important to remember and grow from.
Besides academics, fine arts and sports in school, I have attained leading roles in different groups. This year, I am the Spirit Leader of Student Council encouraging monthly goals and themes and assisting in school events. From creating a student council with a group of peers three years ago we have had success in many events and have found new ways to spread spirit, gather important information and assist with financial groups. Recently, I stepped up to be the leader of the fundraising committee for our ...
The judgments that young people make are often helped to be formed by the exemplary behavior of role models.
”Role models are highly important for us psychologically, helping to guide us through life during our development, to make important decisions that affect the outcome of our lives, and to help us find happiness in later life”(Thomas). Thomas advises people on how important role modeling is and how it can help adolescents find happiness in later life. “First, the use of role modeling as a teaching method in secondary education is assessed. Second, adolescents role models and their moral qualities are identified”(Sanderse). Sanderse implies that the moral qualities are identified as well as their role models.
