In today’s society it is not always what you know, but who you know. It is never a bad idea to join a professional organization and or association. The key is to find the right one for you and your needs. According to ask.com, “A professional organization is formed to disseminate information and unite people who share the same occupation or common interests.” Professional Organizations can also be classified as any social arrangement that has the same aims, aspirations, and goals. A professional organization on the other hand, is usually a non-profit group that helps further awareness and goals of a specific profession according to dpi.state.nc.us. Yet not all organizations are non-profit, so be careful when you choose. Professional organizations should also be non-profit seeking to further a particular profession, maintain the interests of individuals engaged in that profession, and have the public interest at heart. It is always a good thing to do research for any group or organization you are about to join. Individuals should make a list of questions before signing on to any professional organization. Questions such as, Will I have to pay for joining the group of for an extended period of time? If so, how much will dues cost? From there you can figure out if the cost outweighs the benefits, or keep in line with the benefits offered by the organization. Many of the organizations have a set of rules and regulations that must be adhered to. A professional organization must act to protect the interests of the public and govern themselves in a professional and ethical manner at all times. They can also in other cases act as labor or trade union and even in some cases be lobbyists. ...lps the organisation is it gives them free work as they don't have to pay for the volunteer. Also the organisation can employ more people as they have someone working and doing jobs for free and with the money they save from the volunteer they could use that on either raising wages or hiring another worker. It also promotes the organisation so other volunteers will come and the organisation will gain more workers and save a lot more money as they will have people working for free so the work will get done faster.
What do the following have in common? Dedication, commitment, raising awareness, fund-raising, and life saving programs? That's right! The ASPCA! This organization stands for American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They have accomplished all of the above and much more. From providing millions of animals with adequate shelter, and the proper care they deserve, the ASPCA is a charitable organization that positively impacts the nation. People can only imagine the horror of having to give up a pet for reasons beyond their control, they would be devastated for sure. More importantly, they would want to find a place that would provide their pet with a loving home, and people who would care for it as they have. The ASPCA has a reputation that wouldn't leave pet owners with any doubts about the safety and well-being of their pets.
There are many different types of incentives interest groups provide to their members. Some members join due to the solidary incentives, people want to feel like they belong, they want companionship and to be around people who feel the same way they do on specific topics. Material Incentives is another reason many people join interest groups. Some of these groups I had no idea were involved in politics at all like the AARP. This group provide discounts to their members. My father is a member of the AARP group and gets many discounts while traveling for work. Almost every hotel chain offers a AARP discount. AARP stands for American Association of Retired Persons; they work to help form laws in the interest of retired and elderly people. AAA is also a household name that many do not know is an interest group. I personally have AAA and thought that is was only a business that helps you if your car breaks down. Through reading my textbook I have come to find out this interest group helps with laws that directly affect drivers in our society. AAA also provides its members with a variety of discounts when obtaining a membership. I was able to get a discount

The Oxford dictionary defines an organization as a “…body of people with a particular purpose, especially a business, society, association, etc.” Therefore, when a body of people is connected by a specific purpose or association, the presence of leadership, good or bad, is inevitable to find. However, depending on the context of the leadership, the climate of positivity or negativity involved in the leadership, that is what will determine the distance that the organization is able to propel forward.
Nonprofit Organizations The purpose of this research is to define nonprofit organizations, describe opportunities that are present in nonprofits, outline advantages and disadvantages of working in the nonprofit sector, and explain how you can determine if this is an area for you to consider as a career. WHAT IS THE NONPROFIT SECTOR? "Nonprofit" is a term that the I.R.S. uses to define tax-exempt organizations whose money or "profit" must be used solely to further their charitable or educational mission, rather than distribute profits to owners or shareholders as in the for-profit sector. The term is also used to describe organizations which are not a branch of -- are independent of -- the government and the corporate sector. This term refers to one of the most important uniqueness of a nonprofit organization: it is independent of both the public or government sector and the private or corporate sector.
Professionalism is an adherence to a set of values comprising both a formally agreed-upon code of conduct and the informal expectations of colleagues, clients and society. The key values include acting in a patient's interest, responsiveness to the health needs of society, maintaining the highest standards of excellence in the practice of medicine and in the generation and dissemination of knowledge. In addition to medical knowledge and skills, medical professionals should present psychosocial and humanistic qualities such as caring, empathy, humility and compassion, as well as social responsibility and sensitivity to people's culture and beliefs. All these qualities are expected of members of highly trained professions.
Most non-profit organizations’ purpose is to improve the local community and society. The purpose of a small business is to make a profit by providing a service or selling a product. This purpose is what drives the employees/volunteers and usually there is a difference in how we work when we are just earning a paycheck as compared to when we work toward a cause we believe in.
When I looked over the list of possible interest groups that I could choose from Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA) automatically stood out to me. I chose this interest group because my major is Physical Therapy and I figured it would be interesting to track this semester because of the changes currently happening in health care right now. I had never heard of this interest group before so I had to find their website. When I started searching for it I had some difficulty finding it because another interest group kept coming up called America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). I kept looking at it and found out that HIAA had merged with American Association of Health Plans (AAHP) to form America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). America's Health Insurance Plan's URL is www.ahip.org that they use to post updates.

...ocal nonprofit organizations have the potential to amplify their outreach to colleges, and young people in general, through matching passions with skills. You as organizations need to purposefully identify for us why promoting service and civic engagement is not only important, but necessary if we want to improve our lives, the lives of others, and the dilemmas and misfortunes our world faces every day.
Traditionally, teacher development typically occurs through trial and error in the isolated confinements of each teacher’s classroom with some periodic whole-group professional development (Goddard & Goddard, 2007). Within the past few decades, many schools and districts, including ours, have considered and experimented with Professional Learning Communities (PLC) as an alternative framework in guiding a more efficient development program for their teachers. PLCs are focused on enhancing student learning through developing teacher practices. The concept of PLC relies on using structured collaborative sessions amongst teachers within the school to build internal capacity. Through PLCs, teachers critically reflect on current practices, brainstorm solutions, and obtain help and advice from others in a supportive growth-oriented environment over an extended period of time (Vescio, Ross, & Adams, 2008; Nelson, 2009; Scher & O'Reilly, 2009; Bolam, McMahon, Stoll, Thomas, & Wallace, 2005). The theory of change guiding PLCs holds that by providing teachers with targeted support from within the school community, as oppose to hiring additional outside experts, professional developments can become for efficient. Implementation of effective PLCs requires intentional effort, school-wide and possibly district-wide restructuring of teacher schedules, and additional resources. For schools considering implementing PLCs, it is important to understand the logic of action and the benefits of PLCs as it relates to teacher improvement and increased student achievement.
