I look at all the data and realize that the facts support what I have been told all along. Only a small percentage of people make it as a Professional Athlete. There are few opportunities to make a real living as a full time runner. There just are not enough position to go around and only the best of the best have even a small hope. There are many other opportunities in the industry and I am okay with that. I would rather try my best and fail than to never take the first step in a race. Even if I don’t make it as a Professional Athlete, I think of all I will learn and can pass on as a coach to others. I realize the realistic expectation is that I will likely manage a lifestyle fitness business or coach a middle school or high school team. It will likely mean working part time to support my endeavor to be a professional runner. Part time coaching jobs are plentiful, sports retail jobs, though they are only expected to show a 2% growth over the next ten years have massive employee turnover, which means that those jobs are there for the taking. Being self-employed would allow me to do all of these things without sacrificing my dream to the drudgery of a more mundane vocation. …show more content…
After further reflection on my interview with Heather McDaniel Cleary, I will need to find some way to insert some rudimentary business classes into my academic plan. Inspired by my High School coaches husband I intend to complete a coaching certification over the summer so that I might become a part time or assistant coach on a middle school or high school team. In taking this first step I will also obtain CPR and First Aid certifications. Eventually, I will obtain a driver’s license. I would like to be a personal trainer for fellow athletes, perhaps seeking a position at the Falcon Center’s Fitness Center as a running coach during the summer and my off
I would like to enter the University of Charleston’s Athletic Training Program on the basis that I love being around sports and I enjoy working with and taking care of athletes. I first became interested in Athletic Training when I was given a tour of the UNC Athletic Training facility by Kevin Guskiewicz, who is the current dean of UNC College of Arts and Sciences. He was the previous head Athletic Trainer for UNC. After the experience, I quickly enrolled in Athletic Training classes in high school and began to learn the basics for becoming an Athletic Trainer. I loved learning about different injuries and how to treat them because as a student athlete I am very accident prone and figuring out what is wrong with my body is important for my collegiate athletic career. I have also had a dream of working with professional athletes. I have been involved with sports my whole life and have always considered these professional athletes as my role models. By entering University of Charleston’s Athletic Training Program I

In my life, I had not had the chance to be a part of something that influenced me much, until I joined football my freshman year in high school. Joining football was perhaps the most devoted and wisest thing that I did because shortly after joining I began to see changes for the better, and from then I saw the person that I wanted to be in the future. In other words, it shaped the person that I am today and will be for the rest of my life. Not only did the sport influence me but it also equipped me with a new mindset that affects me today in my decision making skills, time management and many other beneficial life virtues. I believe that these virtues will bring me success in the nearest future because I feel confident about myself and I feel more in control in my life through my actions, all thanks to simply joining what seemed to be a “regular” extracurricular.
The purpose of this paper is to gather all the strategies needed to be the best I can be in the future, as a professional. I will express all of my personal goals that I will strive to achieve during college. This paper will serve as a road map to my career path, and will help me better understand the job market. Currently my major is in the college of Kinesiology. The reason I have chosen kinesiology is because I am fascinated with the human body, and learning how to take care of it while it is in motion. This assignment calls for me to explore my options in this degree field by taking a career and personality assessment. Then, I will decide on a career, and major choice that interests me most. At this moment I will put forth all of my effort to obtain a degree from Sam Houston State University, and move onto becoming what employers are looking for. The research for this assignment will be coming from the Newton Gresham Library, Writing Center, Career Services, Internet, and O’Net
The NCAA has been around for more than 100 years. Recruiting has evolved immensely over this period of time. Dozens of recruiting laws have been added over the years. The NCAA is strict about these laws, and many schools have been punished for breaking them. One law that many coaches are trying to get passed is the law against the recruiting of young athletes. Why is this? College coaches are beginning to recruit athletes at a very young age. This can have a negative impact on the athlete’s mental and physical state. The pressure exerted on these young children to decide their future completely takes away their childhood. It is also an enormous amount of pressure on the athlete’s parents. It can be hard trying to find the right balance between getting involved in your child’s decision or handing them the full reigns in
In conclusion, I want to be an athletic trainer when I get older. The school that I go to has a partnership with my local football team, Ridgeview Wolfpack. I have to visit their company for a day, that way, I can obtain a better understanding of the career I have chosen. It is possible that I can get big in that career that I have chosen, Then I may go and help out with a famous sports team. This is the career that I am hoping that I get when I get out of school. Ever since I have been playing sports I thought it would be amazing to work with Pro players. I would be working with the players that everybody dreams
With those statistics, I think it’s safe to say that being a collegiate athlete requires more than a full time job. Trying to keep up with homework and attendance in class poses many challenges especially when the NCAA requires students to miss class for championship games, televised games, or other events that bring in revenue for the school. Instead of focusing on quality education for athletes, the NCAA focuses on violations of amateurism, such as athlete’s receiving financial inducements to play, and neglected the investigation of charges that athletes may be receiving inferior education according to Dean Purdy of Bowling Green State University in his article “Are athletes also
I am a young ambitious student who strives to excel in everything I do. I want to study Sport Psychology as I know I possess the right skills to further and develop myself in the career of sports. I have the ability to understand others in sports as I also play sports myself. I have been in high pressured sporting situations which I have used my psychological skills to help increase my performance. What interests me in Sport Psychology is that I can make a big difference to not just my life but the lives of people in sport such as rehabilitating athletes or boosting athlete performance. I am fascinated by how different athletes perform in the same environment and getting practical with the mind, body and brain. Improving performance, consistency and stability in an athlete’s
I always knew what my career goals were when I went into high school. Ever since I was little I wanted to become a professional boxer and also a police officer. I knew that these jobs had a great risk to injury. Even though I didn’t need to go through a full four years of college for my career goals, I wanted to get a business degree just in case I got hurt on the job and for when I retired from those job. The reason why I wanted these career goals was because I wouldn’t find my job entertaining sitting at a desk for the rest of my life. Since I find an interest in sports, I’ve decided to take the career path toward an industry that has something to do with sports and an industry that I always use for athletics. My career goal for joining
I am sorry you were dissatisfied with the sports celebrity we subbed for your dedication ceremony. Although you obviously feel your claim has merit, refusing to pay us is just not going to work for us. Michelle Aker’s injury and hospitalization was out of our control—just not our fault. We felt sure you would be overjoyed we came through with someone at the last minute. Our contract states specifically that we would provide you a substitute; we did our part and we expect you to do your part and pay us for our services. We appreciate your business and hope that you will consider us the next time you need a sports celebrity for a function.
What do you think of when you watch Michael Jordan play basketball? What do you think of when you watch Cristiano Ronaldo or Pele play soccer? Are they remembered as great individual players or as great team players? In sports today, fans often forget the term team player. A lot of the time, the star player will forget what it means to be a team player, but what does it actually mean? Many believe that the definition of a team player is the person that does all of the hard work for the great players on the team. I feel that the real definition of a team player is one who is determined to make the team succeed, from practicing, learning the game, and from having great individual performance.
What does long-term athlete development mean to you? Well, in this paper I am going to talk about long-term athlete development. Long- term athlete development is “A clear path to better sport, greater health, and higher achievement” (Sports for Life). As you know, I am not a famous ball player or athlete. I am not a famous actor, entertainer or person with millions in the bank. I am not an ex-con who is going to tell you not to take the same path I took. However, my bio is quite powerful. Everything I went through made me the strong man I am today. I knew that education would be the key to my success. I developed the hunger and desire to be successful at a young age. I had so many reasons to become a statistic or to fail. Every one of those reasons would only have been excuses. I simply refused to become another negative statistic and that was a conscientious choice I made.
uccess in competition brings rank, recognition and distinction. Today athletes are looking for searching for an advantage over the field that will help make the winners. In a survey done in the 2000 Olympics half of all Olympics athletes admitted that they would be willing to take a drug even it would kill them. Eventually this type of ‘win at any cost’ mentality is pervading sports at all levels of competition and results in athletes felling coerced to use substances just to remain on par with other athletes. My essay will discuss the unfair advantage drugs create, what cont as a level playing field and finally whether drugs should be accepted in sport.
...y own personal development, I plan to attend further coaching training courses, one of these courses is, MAGIC coaching. This is a course run by the Coaching Academy and it teaches the following variation of the GROW model: Motivation, Assertiveness, Goal achievement, Initiative and Confident communication. This variation of coaching is focused more towards young people, and would therefore fit with my aspirations for the future. I would also be interested in attending a basic level course in NLP, as I believe this particular method will also benefit my coaching with young people.
