Product Evaluation: A Hairdryer
Introduction.
I am a 4th year student in St Patrick's Grammar school Downpatrick
studying technology and design for my GCSE. I must do two focused
tasks, my first task is a product evaluation, for this task I will be
evaluating a hairdryer manufactured by Vidal Sassoon.
Justification.
I picked this appliance because:
Ÿ It is a commonly used household object.
Ÿ I have this appliance in my house so I can look at it whilst testing
it against my specification.
Ÿ It is a unisex appliance used by all age groups.
Ÿ I am interested to find out how this appliance actually works.
Ÿ It fit's the criteria which is:
It must have an element of control.
It must have a power source.
It must be a technological product.
Safety.
Plastic is used to make the casing of the hairdryer. Plastic is an
excellent insulator which does not conduct electricity, heat and is
also waterproof. It will not reshape with high temperatures. The
electric element which is housed well inside the hairdryer does not
come in contact with wet hair. An additional feature of this hairdryer
is that it has an automatic safety cut-off facility. If there is any
danger to the user or if it heats up above a certain temperature the
trip switch located in the electric meter box switches. There are
square shaped grids at both ends of the appliance. These grids prevent
hair from the user getting sucked inside the appliance. The grids also
prevent dust from getting into the appliance and onto the element. The
cable connected to the rear of the handle is well insulated. It is
also quite flexible, which help...

into shape.
The heating element has to conduct electricity and heat, so it will be
made of a suitable metal. This metal element/core, has to be able to
be worked into complex shapes. So obviously it is going to be a light
gauge metal and the beat conductor of electricity and heat. Through
science, I know that copper is the best conductor of electricity, but
the disadvantage is that it tends to be expensive.
Aesthetics.
The overall colour scheme is silver at the nozzle and maroon at the
handle. The buttons and wiring are black. The plastic has a shiny high
quality finish, it gets this from the compression moulding and the
properties of the plastic. The metallic material on the nozzle also
has a high quality finish. The shape of the hairdryer is like a hand
gun. All the edges on the hairdryer are curved.
I will get 5 test tubes and place them into the test tube rack. I will
5.) One at a time, place your test tubes in the water bath and heat the first test tube to 25 , the second to 50 , the third to 75, and the last to 100 degrees c. Remeber to stir with your stirring rod every so often.
To make it a fair test, I will measure the amount of gas given off
SAFETY FIRST: Since you will be heating water on a stove top, this lab requires adult supervision.
6. Place the test tube in the beaker. Secure the test tube and thermometer to the retort stand using clamps. Begin heating the water bath gently.
Welcome to the 60’s, a time of sky-high hairdos, colorful clothing and jivin’ music. But beyond all the glitz and glamour of the era, segregation and discrimination is ever present in the city of Baltimore, until one big girl with even bigger ideas challenges the norm. In an infectious production of “Hairspray,” Thomas S. Wootton High School had the audience tapping their toes and moving to the beat all evening.
“The Shampoo” by Elizabeth Bishop was written near the beginning of Bishop’s residence in Brazil and is a direct homage to her lover Lota. Bishop uses the mundane act of washing a loved one’s hair as the basis for a brilliant meditation on the nature and progression of time. In “The Shampoo” Elizabeth Bishop uses imagery, metaphor, and diction to compare the gradual movements in nature over time with the process of aging. Bishop draws a contrast between the process of aging and the timeless relationship she has with her partner.

Even though Lota is not directly addressed in the poem, an earlier draft of the poem reveals a connection to her longtime lover. A hot plate is acquired and plugged in and if left to warm up. Fill two beakers with 0.075kg of water and record the temperature using a thermometer and record it. Place one of the beakers onto the hot plate and drop one of the metal objects in. Wait for the water to boil and wait two minutes. Take the object out of the water and drop it into the other beaker. Take the temperature of the beaker and record the rise in temperature.
NOTE: The stirring rod was not used in the First and Second experiments, as it was not available. A substitute we used the thermometer.
- After each trial, leave equipment for 2 minutes to cool. After this when moving hot test tubes and beakers, use the heat proof gloves provided to prevent burning skin
More than 375,000 nail technicians face possible health hazards everyday (“Health Hazards”). Today’s salons are investing in the latest products. Sanitation is the most important in any salon to prevent disease or injury to cosmetologists and for clients. The ingredients in these hair products are becoming stronger for some clients to handle. Cosmetologists need to understand how to keep ourselves and our clients safe. Tools, implements, and cleaning furniture is the most important. Customers are always going to be coming in and out of the salon. Cosmetologist will not always know who the person is in the salon. Wash and sanitize your hands before and after a client. Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) will also help prevent disease (Frangie). To prevent disease and bacteria, cosmetologists need to sanitize the tools and furniture before and after they give a service to a client.
Beauty product can be defined as cosmetics; materials and devices made and sold for the purpose of enhancing the physical attractiveness of users or in other words, as any product, especially a cream or lotion, intended to improve a person's appearance . We live in society where people nowadays are very obsessed with beauty and spending so much money on beauty products. Since we were children, the society taught us that beauty is happiness, wellness and everything. This creates a mindset that only attractive physical appearance is beauty, even though ‘beauty’ is a very subjective word where it can apply to many things. It is a rare sight these days to
It is time, at last, to speak the truth about toxic chemicals behind personal care and beauty products. The daily products of an average person consists of face wash, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, floss, toothpaste, and deodorant. Surprisingly, all of these products listed contain toxic chemicals that are harmful to our body. If we use these products to maintain our hygiene, does that mean we are not clean without these products? For example, a common shampoo many people use is Head and Shoulders. However, do we know if the shampoo is cleaning our hair from beginning to end or is it damaging our hair? How often do you read the ingredients labeled on your personal care products and wonder if they are safe to use? More importantly, if you
