Primary Research To arrive at my final conclusions and recommendations, I did primary research to get information and data from the attendees of the church. My first primary research was a survey of church members done through Google Forms where they answered a set of multiple choice questions. The purpose of the first portion of the primary research was to clearly establish that Our Lady of Vietnam Parish lacks sufficient seats for all of its attendees, and that the lack of seating is a pressing, concerning issue that needs to be fixed for members in the future. Tuyet Nguyen, a current staff member of the church, and I was able to ask her questions about the situation. The goal of the second portion of the primary research was to talk about seating adjustments that the attendees would find appropriate and beneficial if the changes were made to Our Lady of Vietnam Parish. The interview was set up through phone, and I was able to schedule a date for us to talk about the church and its current seating setup. The types of questions asked were about if the staff considered the current seating setup as an issue, what actions are they currently attempting to fix it if it does exist, and if they would consider some alternative methods. During this interview, I recommended three proposals to Ms. Nguyen, and she gave back feedback on these ideas. Gaining more knowledge on whether or not the current seating setup is an issue or not will help improve the church’s Sunday Mass experience, and getting the opinions of a staff member helped the credibility of the proposals. This article was very essential for calculating the costs of the attainment of new seating at Our Lady of Vietnam Parish. The author describes the different types of seating, which are pews, church chairs, and theatre style seating, and explains the pros and cons of each. For example, the article mentions “for pew seating, using the standard 22”-24” per seat, you can expect the price to fall around $100 to $150 per pew seat, making this a more expensive option overall” (Bertolini, Cost 8).
