1.0 Introduction
Ship maintenance can be divide into two major categories which is preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance. Preventive maintenance is the maintenance taken before the equipment or machinery breakdown, its mission is to maintain a level of certain services of an equipment, while corrective maintenance is the action taken after the breakdown occur, its task is to correct the defects to be found in different equipment.
A regular maintenance of the cargo handling equipment that used on board ship is essential to ensure that the equipment is always functioning at its operable state for speedy loading and unloading of cargoes as well as safety aspects.
Planned Maintenance System is a system which allows ship operators or ship owners to carry out maintenance in intervals according to manufacturers and classification society requirement. Besides, ship maintenance plan is a series of action to be taken to reduce an item or equipment to make it effective in its operational state. The fundamental basis of planned maintenance system for forklift (Figure 1)and benefits of planned maintenance for the cargo handling equipment that used on board ship will be further discuss throughout this assignment.

The TC 3.04.7 (Army Aviation Maintenance), chapter 1 has a section on Army Maintenance Planning and Execution. It lays out P4T3 (Problem, Plan, People, Parts, Time, Tools, Training), which is every maintenance officer’s tool on how to run a successful maintenance program. In theater you have the people, parts, tools, and training. What sometimes is lacking is the Plan and Time. A solution could be to essentially build an assembly line when conducing phases and using this P4T3 model; it would ultimately shorten the phase time in the hanger. For example, the Longbow has many sections to complete when conducting a 500hr Phase. If you assigned people who are extremely versed in performing maintenance in that particular section of the aircraft, they will continue to do maintenance on that aircrafts section for the time that they are at that phase location (i.e. Camp Taji). Secondly, assign a Power-On Team at the end of the phase to assist the Maintenance Test Pilots to do their ground and flight Maintenance Operational Checks (MOC’s). This Team will be in charge of all the rigging, hanging blades and further unforeseen unscheduled maintenance.
In today’s operational management arena, there are certain expectations from a managerial aspect that must be met in order to be successful. A comprehensive look at the Space Age Furniture Company will show exactly what the Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) calculations are for this company at present time and then take the information given in order to properly suggest ways to improve the sub-assemblies. In addition, there will be an analysis on the trade-offs between the overtime and inventory costs. A calculation will be made on the new MRP that will improve the base MRP. This paper will also compare and contrast the types of production processing to include the job shop, batch, repetitive, or continuous, and determine which the primary mode of operation should be and exactly why. A detailed description on how management can keep track of the job status and location during production will also be addressed. Finally, there will be a recommendation on they type of changes that need to occur that will be beneficial to the company and at the same time add value to the customer. This paper will conclude with summary of the major points.
Maintenance for a 120 ton steamboat was $1,800, 36% of it was for wages paid to officers and crew members, 18% of it was for provisions, 12% of it was for incidentals and insurance, and the rest of it was for 25 cords of wood per day, at $2.
There are three types of Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) that the military performs on their vehicles; they are, before, during, and after checks. These checks are annotated on DA form 5988-E, which is the Equipment Maintenance and Inspection worksheet. If anything looks wrong and you cannot fix it, write it on the DA form 5988-E and immediately report it to unit maintenance.
Maintenance costs have soared recently and based on the lack of information available, lost paperwork and receipts, and misfiled maintenance documentation, senior management has finally made the decision to take action. “Pen and paper” record keeping is no longer making the grade here at Huffman Trucking. The maintenance facility located in Cleveland OH needs to adopt automation and the need for a Fleet Truck Maintenance Database Management System has now become “top priority.”
MAINTENANCE: Keep our station and boats running and looking great. Preventative maintenance, material condition, and house-keeping are the responsibilities of everyone.
(Blackburn, 1999:127). ‘Theseus’ ship’ is used to illustrate this. The ship goes on a long voyage and is in need of constant repair and maintenance. By the end of the voyage, all the components of the ship have been changed.
The national transportation system was composed of relatively discrete units of rail, road and water transportation sub-systems, which interfaced by necessity rather than by design. Today, due to increasing cargo volumes and competition from other national port systems, the cornerstone of our national port and waterways system must be the recognition that intermodalism maximizes the efficiency of our system and provides the well marked pathways to future planning and development efforts. Intermodalism requires a seamless transportation system, which provides smooth transition of cargo from one transportation mode to the other. It also requires the recognition that the waterborne and land based infrastructure must develop with the needs of the users in mind. These developments must include developing technology in the areas of ship design and onboard equipment, vessels traffic systems, aids, and port access programs that efficiently link marine transportation systems to their rail and road links.
Keeping the entire instrument clean and properly storing the device are also important in terms of maintenance.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd (RCCL) has two distinct supply chains which create a unique challenge. Each supply chain is managed by a Provision Master. The first supply chain includes all food, beverage, and lodging inventories that needed for the trips. The second supply chain encompasses “corporate spend” materials, such as office supplies, printing services, hardware and software, printed materials, computer supplies, marine consumables (spare parts, fuel, lubricants, any and all services associated with the ship maintenance and etc).
Due to effective scientific design, pallet has been used in several industries across the world. A tool like pallet has been acclimatised for diverse industry related functions, fulfilling the basic necessity of the industry. If taken from the perspective of management of the warehouses, pallets have been quintessential accessories for machinery for slat chain conveyors, pallet conveyors, ball transfer tables as well as pallet stackers and dispensers. The pallets are the perfect solution for the sustenance of intensive production activities occurring in a factory atmosphere.
Mega yachts are constructed in many places and though they are capable of serving themselves they are also in need of exterior vehicles to help them carry the passengers directly to shore and partake in water sport activities. The boats that are carried by mega yachts and super yachts are called tenders by most of the yachting community. These vessels can vary in size from being very short boats of only 17 feet in length to the more typical vessel of a length of around 30 feet. The tenders are launched by a davit, of which an example can be seen on nearly all cruise liners. The tenders may also be launched by an over head crane that is mounted to the super structure of the main vessel and capable of lifting the weight of an entire 10,000 pound boat.
According to statistics, one of the workers in the UK forklifts truck accidents result in the (flight) as are killed every six weeks. Many more have been injured. As the development of aviation industry grows, more and more aircraft crashes occur. There are many reasons that lead to aircraft crashes, but one of them, is because of improper aircraft maintenance. Why is proper aircraft maintenance so important? Proper aircraft maintenance is critical in order to keep the aircraft can function properly, every aircraft part is in good condition and ensure the safety of pilots and passengers. Proper maintenance has many parts. The most common part is inspections, which pilots do them every day; the main part is overhaul and repair of an aircraft; and maintenance documentation is another important part of aircraft maintenance which improper maintenance documentation has caused many incidents.
Therefore, to determine the material handling system is very important for reduce cost and increased profits. The fact material handling systems represent a major part of the total manufacturing cost make necessity to choose adequately the material handling system when a manufacturing system is designed. One of the most successful applications of experts systems is selection of equipment for material handling (SEMH). SEMH lookups the knowledge bottom to be able to suggest the degree associated with mechanization, and also the type of product coping with equipment to become utilized, according to some traits. Fisher, Farber, and Kay (1998) have introduced MATHES: material handling equipment selection expert systems for the selection of a material handling equipment from 16 possible choices. MATHES as well as 172 principles takes course, product stream quantity, product sizing's in addition to distance concerning sectors because variables. Swaminathan, Matson, and Mellichamp (1992) have developed EXCITE: expert consultant for in-plant transportation equipment addressing 35 equipment
