Preventive services are programs that seek to lessen the stresses and strains of life resulting from social and technological changes and to avert problems. Supportive services are programs that maintain the health, education, and welfare of the community. Rehabilitative services are programs that enable or restore people’s ability to participate in the community. The purpose of preventive services is to have different options available for an individual’s needs for space, socialization, physical activity, and mental stimulation (Berns, 2016). Preventive services differ from the other services because it involves engaging the community within it. Preventive services offer a way for people who are interested in similar activities to come together and socialize. These services allow people to develop new interests and skills. The purpose of family supportive services is to keep a healthy family life by helping family members achieve balanced relationships. The purpose of child supportive services is to protect the wellbeing of a child, provide care centers, and foster care. Supportive services differ from the other services in that it focuses on the assistance children and families will need in life. Most of these services provided are government funded. Foster parents goal is to provide for the child with stability as well as whatever help the child may need in terms of: medical or psychological (Brozak, 1-2). A community can be defined as a group of people, who live, learn, work and play in an environment at a given time. (Yiu, 2012, p.213) There are many factors that may influence the community’s development and health status. These can include resources available, accessibility, transportation, safety, community needs etc… These influences may combine together to form community strengths and as well as community challenges or weaknesses. A Community can be defined as a group of people who don’t just live in the same area, but also share the same interests, experiences and often concerns about the area in which they live. Often when individuals have lived on a street or in an area for a while they become familiar with each other and the issues surrounding them. Children often attend the same schools and grow up together, again sharing similar experiences. In some instances adults may work together, and quite commonly all community members will share the same doctors, dentists, hospitals, health visitors and other public services and facilities.
