Hi Professor and Classmates! My position on family preservation is used usually when it is mandatory for an out of home placement or it has already occurred. When using family preservation case workers should respond effectively to a family needs and should consider educational and clinical services if needed. Family preservation are used also for the more concrete needs such as housing, hunger and not enough clothing for a family. Educational services can be used to help a family with model life and parenting skills which I needed to respond to a demanding child who is spiraling out of control. Clinical Services is mostly used for parenting to teach them how to deal with problem solving and coping skills in life. Child placement I think is more convenient for a child that allows them to stay with a relative they already know. Remaining in the family helps the child with trauma from separating from their biological parents and keep siblings together. “The stability can positively influence a child self-esteem and identity” (www.nrcpfc.org). Some cons of Child Placement are that a family member might shy away from adopting a family member child. Because of fear of causing problems within the family system or appearing to be punishing the child parents. Also most parents tend to have no desire to be reunified with children that have been place with family
