When we think of a mental illness, the thoughts that come to mind can range within a variety of concepts: perhaps a person with imaginary voices in his or her head or someone whose emotions can alternate at the drop of a hat. While this is usually the case, not all—even these—are as dramatic as they seem. Mental illness presides as a main issue many people struggle with day to day. For this, there are people to help alongside their daily turmoil. These people are known as psychologists. Psychology is the science and knowledge of how a person’s mind and behavior work and a practice that is regarded as a diverse field filled with many job opportunities from the studies to the salary and job outlook. They look for relationships or patterns of behavior between events, and use this information when testing theories in their research or treating patients. The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics mention that the median salary for them was about $69,280 in May of 2012, with the lowest percentage earning $38,720 and the highest percentage in the top percent earning $110,880. For clinical, counseling and school, the annual salary is $67,650. For industrial organizational, their annual salary varies but it usually adds up to $83,580 while for any of the other psychologists, the salary is much higher than that of the previously mentioned occupations, ranging at over $90,000. One will also have to take into account the hours and other duties a worker is going through, may they be in their own private practice in which they are allowed to choose their own times, hospitals where evening and weekend shifts will be accounted for or schools, jobs and the like, which work full-time during regular business hours.
