What is Premarital Counseling?
Premarital Counseling is defined as a type of therapy that helps couples prepare for marriage and it is often provided by a licensed therapist. Therapist is known as a marriage or family therapist. There are also the options of seeking counseling through your religious institution if that works better for you and your future spouse (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2013) .
How to prepare for Premarital Counseling?
When embarking on any new venture in your life you need to follow steps that lead up to that instant, so below is a checklist that you and your future spouse should follow in order to secure that you’ve chosen the right individual help in this big step. Before you and your spouse chose any individual to help you on your course to matrimony, please research all of the types of counseling approaches that are offered. Then from that point chose an individual that offers that approach you and your spouse are seeking. Be sure to know whether or not the individual you chose is licensed or not. You may also want to see how many years this individual has been in practice. It is also important to ask for references or referral in today’s community word of mouth still exists and goes a long way in many cases. ...r issue stemming from abuse would attend this type of therapy. The last and final option that is available is telephone counseling. Telephone counseling is flexible and convenient because it was offered twenty four hours a day and seven days a week. So couples can schedule a time to call in and be consulted and counseled (Duncan, Childs, & Larson, 2010).

The purpose of this paper is to examine various instruments utilized to provide counselors with the most accurate assessment in family, couple and individual counseling. As it will further bring a better sense of awareness to the techniques used in family assessments.
Overall, each theory is effective with the approaches and similar focuses. A marriage, couple, and family counselor is expected to understand families, show them empathy, provide positive guidance, and use effective listening skills. These strategies will not only benefit families, but it will also benefit the counselor’s practice.
I attended a support group at 204 S Beverly Drive 116 Beverly Hills, CA 90212. The support group takes place every Tuesday from 6PM-8PM. If a team member cannot make it on Tuesday they can also attend on Saturday from 9AM-11AM. I attended a domestic violence class. The counselor name is Dr. Gordon, his License Marriage and Family Therapist. Dr. Gordon provides the following support group domestic abuse, domestic violence, emotional disturbance, Grief, Internet Addiction, and narcissistic personality and online anger courses and self-esteem. Once you enter the office there is coaches and it feels very comfortable. The instructor was sitting on his desk going over roll call and charging the fee. Once he finished roll call and charging he
The counselling process is one that may last for as little as one session or for years, it is within the middles stages of the helping relationship that particular counselling skills such as a focusing, challenging and immediacy can be implemented, as well as use of advanced empathy that can be applied due to increased familiarity with a speaker. Many actions may occur within middles stage of the helping relationship such as transitions that occur for a multitude of reasons and the outcome of which can vary based on the attitude of the speaker. Self-awareness remains vital throughout the entire counselling relationship due to the continual influence of empathy in the helping relationship and remaining aware my own motives and values when using advanced empathy and specific counselling skills. Ethics and boundaries are also involved within the counselling process as within a counselling relationship, I as the counsellor, must be careful with the balance or expenditure of power when challenging.
The main weakness of this method is also its strength, it focuses on the couple. While this method may help some couples to get their ideas out there, it can make other couples remain silent. Specifically, if a relationship has someone who does not want to be at therapy, they may not be willing to engage in dialogue since they will not see its benefits. Therefore, since the therapist is mainly trying to stay out of the conversation, the client may not be pushed to speak up. Additionally, they may feel as though there are no benefits for the therapy since they have to solve their own problems. This could discourage them from ever coming back to therapy and can lead to more arguments. Another weakness of this method is that it requires engaged individuals who are able to empathize with their partner. This method requires the couple to be able to understand what their significant other is saying. For those who are not capable of seeing things from another’s point of view this would be a challenging task. Furthermore, the therapist using this method would focus on having the partners figure out what their significant other was saying they won’t analyze the conversation themselves. Therefore, if no one analyzes what the speaker is saying they may feel defeated and no longer try to describe their
A pregnant horse stands confined to a small stall, packed into a crowded facility with numerous others just like her. She has been through many pregnancies in her life, never having the chance to bond with her foals and she exists to serve one purpose - to make a profit. This is the life of a horse on a Pregnant Mares’ Urine Farm. The facility that exists to produce a drug called Premarin. Although Premarin is used in Hormone Replacement Therapy for menopausal women, Premarin should not be used because of the effects it has on the mares.
Theories play an important role in how a counselor serves their clients. Theories provide counselors with a foundation on which to build their counseling style. “Theories ground us as professional counselors. They provide a means to understand what we are doing, how we are serving clients, and how to explain counseling to clients” (Erford, 2010). Counselors are responsible for being aware of different theories in order to apply them appropriately within their practice. Established and new theories play an important and constant role in mental health counseling. Established theories in mental health counseling are based on “empirical or scientific foundations” (American Counseling Association, 2005). The best way to gain the most beneficial application of a theory is to establish its validity and purpose.
Furthermore, I thought it would be beneficial to educate Camille and Darnell of a particular therapy if they decided to move forward with seeking professional help for their relationship. I brought to their attention of two different studies that used in Behavioral Couples Therapy (BCT) in regards to Darnell’s alcohol use. I began by explaining the purpose or reasoning behind introducing this to them both. I wanted to ensure Darnell that my intentions were not to antagonize him in any manner, but to merely shed light from an outsider perspective. Thus, allowing Camille to understand how her behavior can also contribute to the cycle of an unhealthy relationship. (O'Farrell Fals-Stewart & Birchler, 1996) study suggested that husbands receiving
MD was conceived with the intention of working with couples experiencing marital issues and want to work towards marital renewal, a greater level of intimacy and commitment to the marriage. Yet, couples who are on the verge of divorce may also participate, using this as a “last-ditch” attempt to save their marriage. Due to the range in severity of marital problems faced, discrepancies may arise when dealing with the couples. The result is a group purpose that is no longer clear cut and has become diluted so as to encompass the distinct goals of all members. It is essential for the workers of MD to evaluate and re-establish a clear purpose ...
Marriage and family counselors are counselors distinctively trained to work with family systems and provide therapy for people who wish to solve emotional conflicts. Their goal, with therapy, is to revise people's perceptions and behavior, expand communication, and prevent individual and family crises. Although marriage and family counseling has a broad history, formal recognition of the professional counseling specialization can be traced to the establishment in 1989 of the International Association of Marriage and Family Counseling (IAMFC), which is a division of the American Counseling Association. Requirements for marriage and family counselors typically include a master’s degree in counseling, two years or three thousand hours of supervised clinical experience, and state-recognized exams.

Often times one will attend couples therapy because their friends have been there and it helped them, but that is not a good enough reason people come. Mary Cocharo, a therapist in Los Angeles says “Yes, I do get a lot of people who come in because another couple told them it was great” (Miller 2). Then she goes on to say how she “doubts people would make themselves that vulnerable just because it’s popular” (Miller 2). She is proving that therapy is something for everyone, and for the people who truly need it. Why would someone waste their time and money on something just because it is popular? They would not. By Mary saying that another couple thought it was great proves that it should be done, but only if in serious need. Therapy is also a great solution to the crisis of divorce because of the way practicing therapy has advanced. Bill Doherty, director of the Minnesota Couples on the Brink Project at the University of Minnesota has changed his ways of practice, for the better. In an article about marriage counseling, it states “Doherty didn’t always practice what he now preaches. At the start of his career, he said, he took an individualistic approach to couples therapy, and if one partner didn’t want to save the marriage, he didn’t see how it was worth saving” (Couples Therapy: When 3). Doherty, like many other therapist, have changed the way they practice therapy too. It is important to know what needs to be changes in a marriage to prevent one person from leaving. Take Sara’s relationship for example, they got married young, but they attended therapy knowing what needed to be done to save their relationship and their marriage is now stronger than ever. Divorce rates can be lowered in many ways, but the most effective would be attending couples

There is no doubt that, interpersonal counseling can be both hard for client and counselor – a delicate balance. A balance that only works with a client that continually comes to counseling. Why is it that there is an attendance difference for Indigenous clients? What is it about the counseling process that has Aboriginal peoples “twice as likely not to return after the first session than Caucasian clients”(Campbell and Nuttgens, 2010.)? It’s important to discuss the implications for Indigenous clients that decline to return, and the implications for Indigenous clients that proceed with the counseling process. In order for this to be examined it’s imperative to discuss the impacts of colonization and historical trauma and how that currently affects Aboriginal
The controversy over premarital sex has never been more profound than it is today. The very mention of the word brings forth radically different reactions. At one time, the very subject of sex was taboo, and then the sexual revolution was introduced as a time when people were unrestrained and open to explore their sexuality. Today, many have become so inordinately apprehensive about sexually related diseases that they perceive premarital sex as totally foolhardy. I am of the opinion that the decision to engage in premarital sex should not be condemned by either faction. The ultimate determination is a totally personal decision that must be thoroughly contemplated with a clear rationale. However, I do believe that a return to the simpler morals of past generations would help alleviate many of the stresses which are added to young, unmarried people today.
