Milder had terminal cancer. I was immediately distraught, wondering how Dr. Milder could operate his practice despite knowing his diagnosis. I gradually realized that it was Dr. Milder's commitment to the practice of dentistry that empowered him to serve others in the face of overwhelming personal adversity. Inspired by Dr. Milder’s optimism and persistence, I started participating in the San Diego County Dental Society initiatives he introduced me to, where I discovered how dentists came together to treat homeless veterans, raise funds for educational programs, and deliver oral hygiene supplies to underserved neighborhoods. I now aspire to follow in these proactive dentists’ footsteps and extend my reach beyond private practice by caring for individuals without adequate resources, promoting public knowledge of oral health, and mentoring future dentists. Although Dr. Milder will not watch my career develop, furthering his chain of compassion as a leader in the dental community will honor his legacy and produce a lifetime of fulfillment and
To be honest my initial inspiration to take the dental therapy and hygienist course was from my mother, who would say ‘If more people had healthy teeth, more people would smile’.For me this statement was a turning point ,as it lead me to wondering that maybe the lack of clean and healthy teeth , is actually the prime reason to why many of us today do not smile enough , causing less unity between the people in our society. Hence from my research into the dental world, I settled on this course as it gives an opportunity for me to not only learn how to provide an assistance to the dentists trying to spread clean teeth ,but also get a chance to help and encourage younger, elder and those with disabilities to carry out the dental treatments, so

I have had the opportunity to shadow two dentists at their respective General Dentistry practices, which I included on my AADSAS application. I am looking forward to continuing to gain more experience in the dental field before attending dental school by shadowing an orthodontist, as well as participating in the CT Mission of Mercy (CTMOM) Dental Clinic in April 2019.
Imagine having to spend half your fortune on correcting your teeth. ”Tooth decay was a perennial national problem that meant a mouthful of silver for patients, and for dentists a pocketful of gold.” (Wallis, 17) If patients don’t take care of their teeth, many issues can start to appear later in their life. Some patients are not knowledgeable of the correct procedures for keeping a healthy smile. In order to maintain a healthy smile, patients must be better informed about the knowledge needed to achieve that success and also maintain it.
As I started my new journey of becoming a dental hygienist, I came into the program with no background of dental. I came into this program with an open mind and willing to embrace new concepts as well as develop new skills. During my time at the Canadian Academy of Dental Hygiene (CADH), I learned that as a dental hygienist that I am committed to promoting and helping each individual achieve their optimal oral health goals. In support of my client’s goals, I may assume any or all of the roles included in the dental hygiene scope of practice. My goal throughout this program was to help my clients achieve their optimal oral health goals through education, health promotion and providing preventive and clinical therapy.
Dentistry is a fascinating profession for its approach to patients, restoring function as well as es-thetic. I believe that Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is the most important specialty in dentistry and medicine which combines art with science. It is appealing when patients leave the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) clinics not only with good function and esthetic, but also in a better psychological status. And I find the AAOMS’s motto “Saving Faces.. Changing Lives..” very insi...
I decided to do my research report on dentistry because it is a perfect blend of science and art. It is a science in that you must fully comprehend on the different types of diagnostic and procedures you are doing. It is an art in that you are constantly working with your hands to create a beautiful smile. The impact you make on helping a person achieve an impeccable smile is not one to compare with materialistic things like money or cars. People often mistake dentist as only doing practices when in fact they could do more, like research. I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to interview Dr. Sarah Pham, DDS, a close family friend who practices dentistry in her own private office in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Pham was
If you could see my childhood shark teeth collection you would understand my affinity toward teeth. Both of my parents have careers in dentistry, and this presented me with numerous hours of hand-on experience in a dental practice. I witnessed my father’s passion for helping people and found myself inspired to serve others on a greater level. Through several hours of working with models and playing sports, I learned that I had excellent dexterity and found enjoyment in aiding others with my hands. My love for science and my ability to excel in higher academics proved to me that I would succeed in a demanding work environment. Dentistry intertwines my passions, strengths, and willingness to serve others. After having the opportunity to work

Starting the ninth grade with a mouth full of brackets was not at all how I envisioned starting my high school career. However, two and a half years of embarrassing school pictures, agonizing pain, and a lisp, the final product made it all worth it. The day I completed my orthodontic treatment made me realize why people choose to pursue dentistry. The instantaneous boost in self-confidence that I found from a glowing, electric smile was what sparked my
The White Coat Ceremony marks a good transition in my duration at dental school between didactic courses and beginning to see patients in the clinic. It was a moment of celebration with my colleagues, friends and family. On that very day, as Class of 2019 and as future dentists we recited the Dentist’s pledge promising to rightfully apply our knowledge and treat our patients providing the best possible care and in their best intentions. The joy to begin this journey was very clear among our families as well as among my classmates. Dean Ismail reiterated this by addressing us as the happiest class at any white coat ceremony he has witnessed before.
Boy was I excited! I wasn’t so sure what a “dentist” was. I only knew
