Cape Fear Valley is a hospital system dedicated to providing healthcare to every patient. I was recently given the opportunity to volunteer for a Cape Fear Valley Health facility, the Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital. This paper will discuss the organization, Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital, and my experience as a volunteer for the organization. The Cape Fear Valley Health System’s mission is to, “provide exceptional health care for all our patients.” Cape Fear Valley strives to, “improve the quality of every life we touch.” The health system has followed through with its goals and opened six hospitals, providing care to Cumberland County, Bladen County, and Hoke County. The organization has provided health care in many different fields, including oncology, neuroscience, weight loss, cardiology, emergency rooms, and Intensive Care Units. In doing so, they have provided a variety of healthcare to a plethora of people. Dr. Jacob Franklin Highsmith established Highsmith Hospital as the first private hospital in North Carolina in 1901. With the help of a man named Dr. William Thomas Rainey, the hospital grew and became one of the leading medical facilities in the region. In the year 1983, the new Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital opened on Robeson Street. This new building included new medical technology and private rooms, which were not available at Highsmith Hospital. On June 1, 2004, Highsmith Rainey opened long term acute-care beds, for patients who require a stay of 25 days or longer and a four-bed Intensive Care Unit. The hospital remains as an “institution renowned for its compassionate, quality care” today. The organization is governed by a Board of Trustees containing 22 members. Looking back, I regret leaving that hospital. It was, by far, one of the best experiences in my life. I believe that the Cape Fear Junior Volunteer program is a great program overall. It is a place I look forward to working with in the future. This was a brilliant and inspiring program for me. Personally, it was the highlight of my summer, I reminisce about returning to this wonderful program again. I would recommend this program to anyone of any age wanting to help the community and build other useful skills, such as work ethic, leadership, and important communication skills that I learned. I have volunteered for many organizations, and I believe that this organization has not only treated me the best, but has given me the most out of the time I spent volunteering.
Coastal Medical Center was established a few years after World War II and began as a 100 bed, acute care hospital, serving the population of the tri-county area. Since conception, CMC significantly grew into a larger, more proficient hospital. However, in the past few years, Coastal Medical Center has become a declining 450-bed tertiary care hospital serving the current population of the tri-county area. CMC has a governing board which consists of 27 members and a parent cooperation board which consists of 19 members. The parent cooperation board, Coastal Healthcare Inc., has 24 subsidiary cooperation’s including Coastal Medical Center, three nursing homes, three hospitals, a home health company, and many additional services. Coastal Medical Center also coordinates 53 major new service projects and 66 special programs.
When I learned that one individual can only do so much while a group of passionate individuals can even move mountains, I took on the role of a shift leader to moderate volunteers and joined the emergency department to study a new environment the hospital offer. During that time, I trained numerous volunteers and assisted countless staffs in saving lives at an effective rate with quality services. Many volunteers I trained are continuing their ardent determination to thrive in the small volunteer room alongside with zealous

Even through all of the difficult situations I had faced at Valley Forge, I would still re-enlist and come back for another term. I know that there will be people who will oppose to my idea of re-enlisting because the experiences at Valley Forge had given us reasons to quit but behind the hardship of the situations, I know that Valley Forge had also given us reasons to stay.
It is obvious that there is a large gap between where Coastal Medical Center is and where they need and want to be. When comparing CMC’s competitors, Johnson Medical Center and Lutheran Medical Center, CMC needs to provide more efficient, high quality care and focus on more profitable priorities instead of funding multiple unsuccessful projects such as the fifty-three unfinished developments.
In 1584, explorers Phillip Amanda and Arthur Barlowe were the first people to set eyes on Roanoke Island. It is explained to be characterized by thick marshlands and stands of live oaks teeming with wildlife. The explorers were sent there by Sir Walter Raleigh. HE was a poet soldier and a statesman. The trip was for one specific reason, to search for an ideal location for settlement.

...llnesses. The medical center prides themselves to uphold the mission and vision of University of California has put in place. The strategic plan that UCSF has put in planned has already helped with patient satisfaction, and the increase in clinical and population research. To accomplish all of the goals that UCSF have set for themselves they would need to keep with improving and stabilizing patient care and their relationship with patients `who visit or use the facilities that are offered to them. Parnassus Heights and Mount Zion campuses have achieved over the years much recognition for superb research and for their clinical trials. These are the reason why University of California – San Francisco Medical Center is to be one top 100 hospitals in America. They focus not only the patients that use their facilities but also the community in the area of San Francisco.
Over the course of time that myself and the other members of my group spent at Medshare’s National Headquarters and Southeast Region Distribution Center, I gained a valuable experience and broadened my horizons with regards to the international medical aid that the non-profit Medshare provides around the world. The staff and crew that serve at Medshare’s Southeast Region Distribution Center, all have different backgrounds and stories as to how they originally connected to the organization. Some members of the crew included individuals who went to university and received undergraduate degrees in the disciplines of Pre-Med, International Business, and Human Services, while other older members of staff included doctors
This can be useful in building rapport and gaining trust from the patients. This information also will help me to identify the non-medical underlying issues that might be the cause impacting general health problem of the community. In Longreach, there are varieties of health facilities that are made available to meet the current health need of the community including Blue care, Aglicare, community health, Longreach Hospital, Longreach Family Medical Practice and many others.1 These facilities provided varieties of services such as accident and emergency, surgical services, midwifery services and pediatric services, allied health services, mental health, chronic disease management, counseling, telehealth, and a lot more.4, 5 The unique things about the healthcare in Longreach is that the public and private healthcare complement each other and collaborate really well in providing the best health services to the
The nonprofit organization my group members and I decided to volunteer is at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Durham and Wake (RMHC). The mission statement of RMHC is “built with love, the Ronald McDonald House of Durham and Wake offers a comforting “home away from home” and a community of support for seriously ill children and their families.’
The volunteer program also helped me to get valuable contacts and network extensively. These contacts helped me understand the benefits of social work and the rewards it brings. They gave me information about the opportunities available in similar organizations. I am now certain that I will secure a job before even graduating. This is a great achievement. Voluntary work helped give me insight on my career. I have decided to enroll for a Masters Degree in Social Work in the next two years.
...teer experience. I highly recommend volunteering to anyone, because of all the great things it will teach and because of the positive impacts it make on one’s life. Volunteering will teach an individual many of life’s greatest lessons, and lets an individual grow into a better person. Volunteering teaches to let go of their ignorance and false notions of world problems and lets the volunteer learn about the real, and sometimes unattractive, condition of people in the world. Many people think that one person cannot make a difference in the world, but volunteering teaches a person to at least try to make a difference in one person’s life and to build on that. Additionally, volunteering teaches a person to be leader who can inspire others to volunteer. Volunteering is an incredibly didactic experience that will forever inspire the volunteer to be a better person.
