Pravda also known as the Russian Truth, was a widely known newspaper used through 1918-1991 by the Soviet Union and the official organ of the Communist Party.
The initial pavada was established by Leon Trotsky. The editorial staff was made up of Victor Knopp, Adolf Joffe and Matvey Skobelev. Pravda’s staff tried to bypass issues that spit the the Russian emigres and focused on issues of interest to Russian workers. The first issue was published in Vienna, Austria on October 3, 1908 “Pravda/Soviet Newspaper”.
During the Soviet era, Pravda was dispensed nationwide, giving the readers articles on economics,literature , cultural topics, and science. Pravda also provided sponsored and approved materials, such as, letters to informing its readers on Communist programs and even theories. Pravda was alleged to be a truthful newspaper, tell the people what was going on with their country. But, instead it turned into theories and interpretations of reality. As a result of the government shutting down the newspaper on July 1914 because of the information they were inserting into the articles, Pravda changed its name about eight time over the period of only two years.
Pravda was also used by Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks. On April, 1913, Trotsky was rattled about the “kidnapping” of his newspaper “Pravda”. Still upset by that he wrote a letter to Nikolay Chkheidze bitterly blaming Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks. Although Lenin was the leader of the Bolsheviks in 1912-1914, he lived in Europe exile and could not exercise direct control over Pravda. Yet he still had a huge influence on
