Field Journal 5 Breyanna Hiebert University of British Columbia After having some time off to reflect in December, I am coming into the practicum this year with a sense of energy and renewal. I have just reached 209 hours and am over half of the way to completing my placement. Looking forward, I am preparing myself for next week’s mid-term evaluation and being ready to discuss the positive and negative aspects of practicum. In preparation for this meeting, I have documented my achieved goals, listed in in my IPT evaluation form. Moreover, completing the documentation made me realize how much I have actually accomplished in my practicum, which will be easy to discuss during the evaluation. Conversely, I saw that some of my goals were not yet fulfilled and I was slightly concerned about the timeline and coordination involved in getting the pieces together to achieve them by the end of term two. In preparation to discuss this during the evaluation, I brought some of my concerns to my supervisors and discussed how we could better meet my goals. My supervisors are very approachable and made the experience …show more content…
I have the opportunity to make some changes to the volunteer training of the agency. Notably, I wish to encourage more strengths-based practice and mental health training in the volunteer training so that the traditional problem-solving method that is employed can be counteracted a bit more. Additionally, I would like to challenge myself to undertake systemic level advocacy, because as systems theory describes, individual issues will not be remedied until challenges at the macro level are addressed. At this agency, systemic advocacy could include making complaints about Ministry workers, writing letters to elected officials, and challenging small issues that I come across in my daily
Last week at practicum was a time of renewed energy. Megan and I had a meeting with one of our supervisors and we discussed our experiences, thoughts, and concerns regarding the placement thus far. Additionally, our other supervisor completed his IPT comments, leading us to have a productive conversation about how our goals are being met and what needs to happen during term two to ensure that we achieve the remainder of our goals. Having this conversation before our mid-term evaluation was very meaningful, and at this point, I think that my practicum placement is as good as it could be. Moreover, I feel very validated by the level of support I have received from my supervisors and how they have taken our feedback of the agency seriously. Seeing my suggestions be authenticated and incorporated into the volunteer orientation makes me realize that my contributions will have a lasting impact on the community. The primary changes that I want to see are workers approaching clients from a strengths perspective instead of from a deficit one, and more mental health training for volunteers. After learning about reframing the way people think about issues during the cognitive behavioural therapy lecture in SOWK 310, I feel more prepared to give concrete strategies and examples of how workers at the agency can empower clients by using a strengths approach. In this context, reframing will aid the agency in seeing problems as opportunities
Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
Entering into higher education and professional advancement, I have reflected on my educational background, nursing career opportunities, and future goals. Development of a plan will assist with navigating through a pathway of advanced practice training. According to Johnson (2012), the benefit of a professional development plan and portfolio can help individuals organize, present, and reflect on their personal and professional accomplishments. This presentation and summarization were the first step in mapping out my course to success. The paper will review my educational achievements, professional background, professional goals, course learning outcomes, and practicum application
Because there was no formalised and structured body of governance, in addition to TIP courses we saw local training consultative groups and trainer bodies. These produced a local version of what they believed to be the necessary knowledge to support volunteers in the field. To date there has not been a formal task analysis to identify exactly what it is the various levels of advocacy do. This seems not to have concerned anybody. Further, we continue to use the term pension officer despite the fact there is no pension legislation, and for the past twelve years our volunteers have worked within the provisions of military rehabilitation and compensation legislation. Where to from
At the end of the program, I believe that my professional skills would be further developed in terms of my Decision Making, Motivation to work, drive for achievement, Tact and Creativity including that of Exemplary leadership- me a transformational leader who can inspire other professionals and employees positively. I also expect that my interpersonal and communication skills would be tremendously improved.
My first short-term goal is to getting a good grades in prerequisites courses as it is necessary step to getting a seat in MRT (Medical Radiography Technology) program. So, I have set my time for my assignments and study- in order to obtain good grades. At-least three to five times during the week I will go over my
Throughout my final ten weeks at my placement, I have grown and overcome so many obstacles. I have accomplished a wide range of skills since the beginning and have been improving on them as I gained experience. At my placement as a student nurse, I have gained a lot of confidence, skills, knowledge and experiences that have helped me act and work in a professional way. All the experiences I have had during the ten weeks of my student years have helped me in shaping me into a professional.
Emphasis that goals are not set in stone and can be changes or altered as time goes by. Discuss the resources in more detail to see which the client prefers with support and guidance from the therapist. Homework sheet: Feeling more confident by feeling more positive. This is appropriate as it will
Volunteerism, civic engagement and advocacy are the driving forces for creating change and making a positive impact in your community and society at large. While gaining internship and job experience can lead to community impact and social change, it’s important for us to remember that before we start advocating for change and informing others about issues we care about, we need to fully understand the complexity and depth of the social, environmental, or economic issue we are passionate about.
Throughout this course my paradigms of what a nonprofit organization have been challenged as we have considered the major aspects and leadership challenges of these organizations. Having worked with for profit and nonprofit organizations in the past I was quite confident that I had a clear understanding of the distinctions between the two. I had worked in organizations that regularly used volunteers to accomplish their mission and felt that the management of these processes were simplistic. Despite these misconceptions, I found that I was able to learn a tremendous amount through our reading, peer interactions, group projects and equally important, my volunteer service as part of this course.
With Ms. Mendia’s advice, I also intend to go to the instructors’ office hours for each course that I am taking at least once every two weeks, with specific questions on subjects I reviewed and set a mutually agreeable time and day to follow-through to avoid rescheduling. With Ms. Mendia’s assistance, I created a “student success action plan” to further help me to organize my studies, manage my time, and ultimately make me a better test-taker (enclosed number 6 please find a copy of my student success action

I am confident you will find the results of the report useful for evaluating the progress of my educational and career goals.
Three models examined here are the service model, the community organization model, and the training model. The examination should help change agents to utilize the most suitable model for change efforts that will be involved based on context and situational factors. To compare the models, the author used the DeCharm continuum of the two ends of origin and pawn. That continuum was utilized to change agents throughout the change intervention. The change agents may use the power of the authority to dictate change agenda and needs in the community or relying on those being helped to get the needs and understanding what is best for their community. For this purpose, the examination showed how the three models fall on the continuum; then it can be decided what is the best model that can be utilized for more benefits and best results in the change process. Each one has different characteristics and benefits that author described in the
A change in beliefs, a shift in perspective, and a disruption of the world’s culture is all it takes to start a movement, and the utilization of mass media is often a vital factor in doing so. The main focus and purpose of a movement is to provoke change and to bring attention to the issues that are being experienced around the world. World Wildlife Fund for Nature, also known as WWF, is considered a “contemporary movement” (Stolley 188) and its central focus is on environmental activism. Having started as a small group’s dissatisfaction towards how the world’s culture was affecting the environment, it has now grown into a large environmental organization. WWF increased awareness on endangered species through their recent #LastSelfie campaign
