1) Being involved in sports can vary from culture to culture. People from different cultures believe that playing sports builds character, improves health, and well-being. These beliefs can encourage people to participate in sports.

2) Sports can build character where athletes get the opportunity to explore and develop their identities apart from playing sports, knowledge building experiences that go beyond the locker room and playing field, develop new relationships with people not connected with sports, lessons learned in sports may be applied to specific situations apart from sports and the opportunity to develop and display competence in non-sport activities that are observed by other people who can serve as mentors and advocates outside sports.
