Poverty has been a struggle since social order has existed and it will continue to exist until the end of time. This means that in both the 18th century and the modern world poverty is found. It can be found in both the western world, in the third world countries and in 18th century London and Paris.

London during the 18th century was tough especially if you were poor, but not even the rich were free from the effects of poverty. The poor would act as highway robbers, thieving from anyone who had a a chest that showed their status. Many people also lived in two to three room houses, some only in one room. This meant it was crowded and hard to find space for themselves, but this was all most could afford. Most families had just enough to survive …show more content…

The peasants struggled t survive on the little money they had and resisted the nobility’s rule. This created tension between the different classes, but mainly between the peasants and the nobles. The noble had plenty of money to spare but instead of caring for the people they rule over, they let them starve and struggle for food and water. Many peasants were killed for no reason as nobles didn't care for their lives and would kill them without a second thought. Many countries, especially the underdeveloped ones live below the poverty line. The poverty line in Australia in 2014 was $400 for a single person and $841 for a couple with two children per week. Over two and a half million people were living below this after paying for basic housing costs, that's 13.9% of all people and 17.7% of all children live under the poverty line. Many people groups in Australia are at either medium or high risk poverty, these include single parents and people with a disability even though they aren't counted on the poverty rate.
