I agree with most of the desirable and undesirable characteristics of a potential mate listed in the textbook. However, I would also list another important undesirable characteristic a potential mate is having poor communication styles. We talked a lot in one of the discussion board posts last week the importance of communication and how to communicate in a relationship. In fact, I had an experience where I went on a date with a friend of mine and I ended it because of his lack of or poor communication skills. I highly value making communication a priority in a relationship because it brings balance and you get to know your spouse better by it. In Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, the character of Pecola exemplifies the inferiority felt throughout the black community due to the ideology that white qualities propel you in social status. Pecola’s mother, Pauline Breedlove, said it best when she was introduced to beauty it being the most destructive ideas in the history of human though. From which the envy, insecurity and disillusion have been derived by the ideas of beauty and physical appearance. Pecola’s story is about the consequences of a little black girl growing up in a society dominated by white supremacy. We must not look at beauty as a value rather an oppressive discourse that has taken over our society. Pecola truly believes that if her eyes were blue she would be pretty, virtuous, and loved by everyone around her. Friends would play with her, teachers would treat her better and even her parents might stop their constant fights because, in her heart of hearts, no one would want to “do bad things in front of those pretty eyes.”

For the past four months I have been in my most promising relationship, yet. But sometimes things go nuts and it feels like there is nothing I can do about it. So I thought I would check out what goes into a healthy relationship. I found a variety of qualities, but I’ll keep it simple. Remember the 4 C’s. Unless it is someone’s choice and they believe in arranged marriages then it is their choice. If it is their family values, beliefs and what they have always wanted to do then it is their moral right. Nowadays there are dating sights most consider when looking for marriage. Younger generations are socializing more though online interactions. One thing for sure is people have more choices compared to older ways of doing things.
