The purpose of this paper is to discuss why students who appears to be dismissed from the value of education might move out from a lower level of reflective judgement. There can be many things attach and the student can be able to reflect and make the correct decision to move forward with their education value. There will be stages covered to show why student has a low valued of education. The stages will provide more additional information. There will also be an ethical and cultural discussed because sometimes both come together of why the student has dismissed the value of education.
A student who appears to be dismissing the value of education does not understand the benefit of a higher education. There might have been some experience in their life that does not accept and thinks it is unfair and this is why they will continue with higher education. A student who moves out of lower level of education might get influenced by a mentor and continue with

their education.
There are many times were a life experience occurs and it changes everything and this is when the student might reflect and continue with higher education. Majority of the students that continue with higher education is because they have someone that is pushing them that education is very important because it can get then a career and a better paying job and a better life.
A student that is dismissing the values of education might be experiencing the stages that Kail and Cavanaugh discussed in the textbook. According to Kail and Cavanuagh (2016) “The pre-reflective reasoning stage, belief that knowledge is gained through the word of an authority figure or through firsthand observation, rather than, for example, through the evaluation of
evidence.” Therefore, the student might be gaining more knowledge and they are seeing things in other way and no one is telling them about it. They have an open mind and they are getting additional information for conclusion. As the student moves to the next stage which is Quasi reflective reasoning, they are expanding and are clearly think about things. “Recognition that knowledge or more accurately, knowledge claims—contain elements of uncertainty, which attribute to missing information or to methods of obtaining the evidence.” Therefore, the student is now questioning things and has doubts and is being judgmental. Once the students gains Quasi they move to reflective reasoning. “Knowledge claims cannot be made with certainty, but are not immobilized by it; rather, make judgments that are ‘most reasonable’ and about which they are ‘relatively certain,’ based on their evaluation of available data.” Therefore, they start analyzing and admitting that judgment becomes a special tool for them to used, when they have things about life. Students go through the stages because some of them might think they are not as good as they think to continue with their education. They might be scared because there can be other students that know more than them and this is why this stage helps student continue with higher education because they start asking and have an open mind for things. There are many ethical and cultural strategies that promoted resilience, optimum development and wellness. In many cultures they believed that the key for success is for their children to completed higher education then them. So, cultural strategies can motivate the student to continue with their education and believe on themselves. Ethical is also important because if the family has provide with morals the student will follow their morals and not doubt about themselves when they are moving to higher education. In conclusion, a student can be help by a mentor or family member in order to get out of the dismissing value of education. They might be the once that decide if they believe on themselves, but family, culture and morals have a lot to do with the student education. There is a distinguished when students are being pushed by a mentor and family member, because they get all the support they need.
Going off to college is probably one of the best things a person can do to further their education. The promise of a degree from a university seems achievable but is shadowed with the many challenges that come with a higher edification. Often many college students find themselves bothered by these obstacles which can determine whether the college student succeeds or not. There are many endeavors in college but it depends on how the student reacts to these situations.
He also points out that when he was a student he “never liked hearing this, and you tend to feel a bit insulted by the claim that you needed anybody to teach you how to think.” To interpertate what he says, he meant that most people believe they know what they are doing when it comes to thinking about something and being told you're thinking wrong or someone trying to teach you how to teach my offend someone thinking that they were calling them ignorant or uneducated. But he expands on his point in order to relate to the students by looking at some of their values and desires in their adult lives and this also pertains to
Pharinet says one of her students said “C’s get degrees”(681) but she leaves us to wonder whether she is a college professor, high school teacher, or maybe even a grade school teacher. Pharinet never indicates where she attended college, but her career requires a college degree. So that makes us ask ourselves, How can someone who attended college try to persuade us into believing college is not for everyone? Well, if we dig a little deeper we will see that Pharinet is not plain out saying college is not for us, but rather “there are too many students enrolled in school who simply don’t belong there”(Pharinet 680). I personally have caught myself looking at some of my peers and asking myself “why are they even here?” We all have at some point. It is pretty simple; we need to stop pressuring people who are not ready to get a higher education to go to college. As pharinet says “Embrace the reality that college is not for
Although perhaps supportive of higher education their parents and Family members may view their entry into college as a break in the family system rather than a continuation of their schooling. In families, role assignments about work, family, religion and community are passed down through the generations creating intergenerational continuity. When a family member disrupts this system by choosing to attend college, he or she experiences a shift in identity, leading to a sense of loss. Not-prepared for this loss, many first-generation students may come to develop two different identities one for home and another for college, the student might feel he needs to do better in college then his parents. So the student might start feeling the pressure, that there is too much going on in his life and at home, because the parent is putting too much pressure to do better but the student just can’t stay focus on their studies, and they eventually will develop low grades he or she might just drop out of school, the parent might want them to work and go to school that could be difficult for the student. A student need to be successful in college to succeed, parent needs to be more supportive, and maybe their child can finish
The main reason why people go to college is not because they want to but because they have to. Most high school seniors are pressured by their guidance counselors and parents to go to college because it is "the right thing to do." In the essay that Caroline Bird wrote "College is a Waste of Time and Money", she states that students go to college because " . . . Mother wanted them to go, or some other reason entirely irrelevant to the course of studies for which college is supposedly organized." (481) The student may have different ideas about what he or she wants to do in life, but because they think that these "mentors" know what is best for them, they probably end up doing something they do not want to do, resulting in being miserable and resentful.
In “College Is a Waste of Time and Money,” Caroline Bird, a college lecturer makes very good and valid points that college is wasting time and money. She describes how society has pushed students into getting higher education right out of high school. Leaving us with the question, are students getting a higher degree of education to better their future or to keep them busy and paying an institution.
With the cost of education rising and no stop in sight, many students are beginning to question the worthiness of a college education. It is commonly known that individuals who go to school will make more money over their life time compared to someone who does not. This is a great motivator for many wanting to go. An article written by The Economist
Noted authors, Brandon Chambers, is quoted saying, “If you are going to fear anything fear success. Think about what you are doing and when you succeed what life you will have.” There are several different reasons why I could stay home, work and not go to college; I could go to work every day and make more money for the house, it’s easier, and I would be less stressed. Now, on the other hand there are many reasons why I should go to school; such as further my education, make my family proud, and make myself proud. I am attending college for several different reasons. One reason is to further my education. I hate feeling like I don’t know something, I like being the person everyone comes to for information. Also, because I want to be better prepared for my major, I want to be better then the next person with the job credentials. I want to major in Social Work and Criminology. I dream to be a counselor or an clinical service social worker. I want to help people who need someone there for them someone who can guide them or even just talk too. Another reason is because I would be the first in I would be the first in my family to go to college. I feel in some type of way I am setting an example for my parents and my brother that they too can go back to school. Lastly is simply because I love school. I love knowing more and more each day. College is not for everyone, but I will be successful by grasping the benefits, preparing for the problems, taking heed from experts, and working on strategies to be successful.
Because of adolescence, they may think that school is “nothing”, it is just a waste of time. Also, facts have been saying that more and more students are being independent related to the school. A good reason that they are independent is that they want to have their own money. However, when we don’t know how to say no and face whatever problems may cause, we often use to drop out of college to avoid difficulties.
In conclusion the purpose of achieving a college degree is pursuing success through knowledge, opportunities and happiness. Having a college degree can change not only one’s life but also their families and future children. When retaining the proper knowledge and taking advantage of the better opportunities being offered one can live the happy successful life they have planned on living. “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, how you do it, and how you obtained the knowledge”(Maya
“You will never know what you are doing until and unless you have done it.” ― Santosh Kalwar. (http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/education?page=11) Throughout the 18 years I’ve lived on Earth, I have learned one thing. Life is nothing but trial and error. You can only learn by learning. You can only experience by experiencing. All my life I took something so vital for granted; pushing it away because I was afraid. I allowed myself to be held back by my trials. I let myself become my problems. I never took an open opportunity like this to better myself, until now. “The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.” ― Sydney J. Harris. (http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/education?page=11) My education is my future; a second chance I thought I’d never get. And I’m never turning back. That is what my education means to me.
Claiming an education has not only become a responsibility of mine, but a necessity to my life, in contrary to limiting my education to what I learn at school. Many students feel that what they do in school is good enough and that working hard in school is all that matters. This is undoubtedly false; students should take their own interests at heart and explore them. If one child loves to play the drums, but his/her school only offers piano classes, that child, given that they are intellectually curious, should make an effort to take an outside of school class on drums. In simpler words, people should make an effort to take chances and explore different things that they are genuinely interested in, rather than focusing their mind entirely
How does Higher Education hinder a person from pursing an education? A. Higher Education is expensive but yet the people of the world are expected to be the next great leaders of the world. B. Education is a way to survive, and keep striving for something rewarding in life, a college
Growing people always dream about going to college. They think that after finishing high school automatically comes college. But the question is do they realize the value of having a college education, or they just go because someone told so, or maybe this how it goes. People now days don’t really know how value having a college education is. “Education is most powerful weapon which people can use to change the world”. (Mandala). Having a college degree could provide more opportunity’s and knowledge for people to strive and become more active in their community’s and help people in their own fields like having a dotora and lawyer, or even a policemen. According to the harry van Arsdale Jr center for labor studies on their article redefining a college education “They said that in today’s hypermarketzed society, college is often viewed as an individual
“Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family” (Strong n.p.). Anywhere a person goes, there are people demanding that people have a certain level of education. This makes wanting to get into a certain profession hard to do. By going to schooling you can get yourself and education, but by no means necessary do you get an education by going to school. But the question lies in how you go about achieving both them, and increase in learning. There are times when you can get some school, but the education does not fully come. This could be from the lack of teachers, or the encouragement that you get. It also lies in how much enthusiasm that you put
