Technology development has changed our daily life and social media has changed our communication methods. The invention of new technologies seem to be cutting us off from contact with our fellow human beings. People no longer only think of face-to-face interactions or e-mails. Social network sites (SNS) like Twitter continues to attract users, many of whom turn to these spaces for social support for serious illnesses such as cancer. (Myrick, 2015) Social media brings convenience to us because we can use various technologies to make us feel happy, and no longer need to travel around to have a face to face communication. Technology has also saved human humongous time just getting one place to another. Although social media has shaped us into a non face to face communication style but the change might not be a bad occurrence for people. Psychologists (Chen and Kirmani), economics (David), individuals (Karli), and students (Martin) have different views on it, and this paper is going to reinforce the benefits brought by social media overshadow the negative impacts through demonstrating the views. From the article wrote by researchers Chen, Kirmani and published by the Association for Psychological Science, shows the relationship between social media and people’s social anxiety. According to the article, there is no relationship between usage of social media and higher social anxiety, but there has been a correlation between online social communication skills and self-esteem (2013). Thus, the reason why people who find the social media not helpful in their relationship building or connecting might be that they are more socially anxious individuals to begin with.
