A hero, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary is "a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities". I consider Ponyboy to be the biggest hero in the novel "The Outsiders". He was able to save the children by putting his life in danger to save theirs. And he showed incredible qualities such as courage, humility and selflessness. Firstly, courage is the ability to do something you're afraid of. Ponyboy demonstrated this quality as he ran into a burning church to save the children, he put the children's lives before his and and knowingly risked his own life. Ponyboy came out of the burning church with minimal damage done to his body, but as for johnny he burned his whole body and ended up in a coma. But to johnny i think it was
worth it. Secondly, humility is when the hero has a low view of his/her’s importance, also known as being humble. He always thought highly of his brothers, and friends. Ponyboy was always worried about what they were getting into with the socs. Ponyboy tried very hard not to think about himself, but when johnny died he thought about how he could of saved him. thirdly , selflessness is when the hero cares about others wishes and needs more than his/hers own, Ponyboy would always worry about his brothers, they would always fight and ponyboy would always ask why. Ponyboy would never understood why the socs would jump/fight the greasers. In my opinion i think they took it way too far, Almost killing Johnny and Ponyboy. In conclusion se Hinton created the outsiders because there isn’t much teenager books we can sometimes relate to. In this book ponyboy is to be the hero in the book “the outsiders” he shows courage, humility and selflessness.
By looking at the incidents happened around Ponyboy and the changes of Ponyboy’s attitudes towards reality, we can see that Ponyboy has matured and learned the essence of solving problems, which most readers don’t see; this is important because it reveals the relationship between dreams and reality, that is cocooning from the world is not going to solve any problems, instead, only through facing the reality could we regain lost courage and break the obstacles.
At one point in a person’s life, they will feel like an outsider. Everyone has experienced feeling this way.In The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton displays two characters that truly experience being different from the rest of the group. Ponyboy and Johnny are both greasers (people that are more poor) and are in the same gang. They both feel out of place at different times, disconnected even. Through the characters Ponyboy and Johnny, Hinton reveals to readers what it genuinely means to be an outsider.
Webster’s dictionary defines a hero as any man admired for his courage, qualities or exploits, especially in war. Some people attribute the term hero mostly to war. My personal definition of a hero is someone who takes a stand against evil or an unjust cause. The term hero can be applied to anyone, it isn’t necessary to save the world from explosion to be a hero. The act of standing up for a friend can also be called a heroic act.
Throughout the course of The Outsiders, Ponyboy goes from a greaser that tries harder than the others, but goes on to mature even more than you think he would. This fact makes him a dynamic character, as a dynamic character is a character in a storyline that goes through big changes, whether good or bad. You may be confused as to what I am talking about, even though you should have read, but let me explain. Ponyboy Curtis, the main character of The Outsiders, matures throughout the course of the novel. With the actions that take place, Ponyboy experiences the way of life and how it works. While he does not become “tough” like Dallas or Two-Bit, or even his own brother Darrel, and while he does not mature in physical terms, he does in mental terms. Let me start from the beginning.
A hero is considered to be any man noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose;
The Outsiders by SE Hinton is a great coming-of-age novel that is about gangs, violent but also at the same time about love and brother ship. In the book, the society suddenly thinks the greasers, Pony, Johnny and Dally, are heroes. That really got me thinking. What is a hero?
A hero is defined as "someone admired for his bravery, great deeds or noble qualities". There are three categories to which all heroes can be classified into, one of which is the anti-hero genre.
Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example

What is a hero? Merriam Webster defines a hero as being a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities. What are those noble qualities? They are bravery, selflessness, and strength. Two heroes, Beowulf and Sir Gawain, exemplify these traits while the "hero" Arcita fails to do so.
A hero is a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievement, or noble qualities. John Jay was a hero because he was one the nation’s Founding Fathers. He helped bring independence to the colonies along with creating a constitution
In The Outsiders, Ponyboy’s strongest value is his identity. He is a Greaser, and is part of a gang that includes his two older brothers. He lives with his brothers and has no parents as they died eight months prior to the narration of the story. He has grown up as a Greaser but he dreams of a different life. He wants to do something more than just being a Greaser. Life as a Greaser doesn’t fit him and he wants to change. He changes for the better and does the right thing. This reaps good results and is seen as a hero. But when he meets Cherry, he sees that other people also want to become more than what they are. Cherry, a girl he meets at a movie, invites him into her world as a Soc; lets him know what life as a Soc is like and how she
A man who spent 20 years trying to get home. A father who took his own life for his family. A woman who risked her life to free strangers. True heroes give anything they can for the sake of other, something as small as a helping hand, or something as big as losing their own life. Heroes aren't bullies, they won't push you down just for their entertainment, they will pull you up back onto your feet. There are many types of heroes we all consider, Odysseus and Harriet Tubman are obvious while Rumpelstiltskin isn't as clear to see. Most of the time, heroes are not the stereotypical ones found in stories; real traits that define a hero are love towards one another, selflessness for others, and a strong devotion for what they believe in.
