1. The most specific strategies for responding to the following forms of residual white collar crime: State-corporate- these are crimes committed by state officers and employees of corporations in the interest of corporates they include political corruption, financial manipulation. Due to the complexity of these cases, the culprits have on numerous occasions found a way to manipulate the law and as a result, they are realized on technicalities. Some of the strategies the criminal department could take include, replacing proof beyond a reasonable doubt with proof on the balance of probabilities. Besides, the state should consider a change in certain due process rights and introduce strict liability which will grant the state more prosecution …show more content…
contrepreneurial crime- the best way to handle contrepreneurial crime is by raising public awareness and safety tips to watch out for such criminals. As anyone is can fall prey to such gangs. Avocational crime- government corporations should train their staff on fraud prevention. A special Investigative unit should be dedicated to handling incidences related to fraud (Friedrichs, 2009).
2. What, if anything, can be done about state crime and political white collar crime
For any measures that are put in place to be successful, there must be a full backing from the government to the implementing agencies. This political will must be an honest commitment from the political elite towards addressing, formulation and implementation of antifraud laws. Besides, preventative, predictive and breakdown is also another way that can be used to address white collar crimes. For instance, through employing forensic science. A good example is; the banking institutions should make public names of loan defaulters as a way of warning other credit facilities about such individuals as a means to prevent future crimes. Most white collar crimes happen in most cases because of lack of awareness or
The news article that I decided to do my assignment on is about a bank manager, Debra Anne Chapin, that embezzled 2 million dollars from a bank. The news article’s title is, “Former manager jailed for cheating bank out of $2M; Woman used cash to pay bills, gamble and feed her cocaine habit.” The crime took place in Calgary between June 1, 2006 and June, 30 2008. This embezzlement is a classic case of white collar crime and demonstrates numerous criminological theories.
The installment of new security could even be a problem, for people who operate these new security systems could also be a potential thief. There is an approach among many enterprises that it is simpler to easily excuse the employee who committed the offense, instead of dealing with the law and the officers; and follow through with the money and time by prosecuting in order to seek restitution. Sometimes the firm does not to acquire the negative publicity that has to do with the internal offense, especially when their reputation is predominant to their company model. White-collar crime is often categorized as a crime without a victim, damaging only large, objective corporations. Recent news broadcasts portray nothing could be farther from the absolute truth.
In the Frontline documentary “The Madoff Affair”, it is revealed and painfully evident that the ability to predict, prevent, and prosecute white collar crime is flawed and highly complicated even for the government. Frontline takes a look at the first global Ponzi scheme in history and helps create a better understanding of the illegal conduct that led to the rise and fall of Bernie Madoff and those associated with his empire (Frontline, 2017). When the leadership at the top of any organization is founded on lies, secrecy, and empowered by the leaders within the industry, the corruption is deep and difficult to prosecute. The largest stock market fraud in history reinforces the need for better government regulations, enforcement of the regulations, and oversight, especially in it’s own backyard (Yang, 2014).
Professor and Director of the Distance Learning Masters Program at The University of Cincinnati, Michael L. Benson has his Ph. D. in Sociology and is the author of "Denying the Guilty Mind: Accounting for Involvement in White-Collar Crime." In a classic study based on interviews with 30 convicted white-collar offenders all men, Benson examines the excuses and justifications used by White-Collar criminals to not only explain their involvement in the crime but also claim their innocence. It focuses mainly on the techniques that are used to deny they did anything wrong in categories separated by antitrust violators, tax violators, violations of financial trust and those committing fraud. Antitrust Violators focused on the everyday character and historical continuity of their offenses. They claimed to be following es...

White collar and corporate crimes are crimes that many people do not associate with criminal activity. Yet the cost to the country due to corporate and white collar crime far exceeds that of “street” crime and benefit fraud. White collar and corporate crimes refer to crimes that take place within a business or institution and include everything from Tax fraud to health and safety breaches.
The term crime control is a method that is used to help tackle crime, in terms of reducing the amount of crime that is committed. This model is describe like that of a conveyor belt because of the speedy process it uses to determine assumed guilt of suspected offender.
Crime is not something unique to one country or culture, it can be found all over the world and has been present for as long as history goes back. There are many theories on why crimes happen ranging from individual responsibility to responsibility of societal influences. However, some countries suffer from much higher crime rate than others and the United States of America happens to be such a country. This paper will look at how societal influences, more specifically, the concept of the American Dream, affect crime rates in the country. It is the idea that the basis of striving towards economic success, seen in the foundational ideas of the American Dream, is the very same factor that allows the nation’s crime rate, such as in white collar
White collar crime has been discussed more frequently in the last few years. The news has made society aware that white collar crime occurs almost as often as other criminal activity. In fact, white collar crime is one of the most costly crimes. It is a billion dollar criminal industry. White collar criminals seem to continue to engage in the criminal practices because there is no set standard in the penalties given to those that are caught. A look into the public’s perception on whether the penalties given is harsh enough for white collar criminals since most types of crimes have a set of standard penalties for those convicted. A standard set of penalties needs to be looked at for white collar crimes to help in eliminating the criminal behavior and saving society billions of dollars a year.
This research is very important in determining the measures to take to be a deterrent to this crime. There are many approaches to dealing with crime. There are preventive methods that seek to prevent a crime from happening. There is also a punitive method of preventing crime that work by making the penalty for committing a crime very high. It prevents people from committing a crime and offenders from repeating the crime.
A crime is any act or omission of duty resulting in harm to society that is punishable by the state. Often there is more than one participant in a crime, including cooperation in the physical act or assistance before and after. In New South Wales, the roles of people in a party conducting a crime are specified in laws about joint criminal enterprise. A joint criminal enterprise is one in which two or more people conduct criminal activity with a common objective. All parties are held equally criminally accountable even if some were more actively involved than others. All participants are punishable by court and are referred to as the parties to a crime. There are four distinguishable parties to a crime which are classified according to their role in the execution of the crime.
White-collar crime, specifically computer crime, is becoming more popular as computers become more readily available. Crimes using computers and crimes against computers are usually committed without fear of being caught, due to the detachment of the offender from the victim.

I believe that the most misunderstood aspect of these type of crime is how this crime affects a society and how we can contribute directly or indirectly to these crimes. What I mean is that if we don’t know the law, we become victims, and we indirectly contribute to the crime. Not because we want to, but because we don’t know how the law works for companies and governmental departments. In order to avoid more crimes, we as a society should be more inform on how this agencies and companies should be running and report what we see wrong.
Overview According to Giddens (2009), crime is any action that contravenes the laws established by a political authority. Crime can be traced back to the very beginning of human existence; however, public safety is increasingly being threatened today. There has been a constant struggle to curb criminal activities and all the social problems associated with them. Over the years, many strategies, plans and theories have been explored but crime is still on the rise while detection rates are on the decline.
