Dependent variable of stress is connected with the dangers that some police officers face daily. Stress in the lives of officers is the result that comes from the involvement in the lives of those who have either broken the law or been the victim of crime. Stress
might occur with a lack of communication and poor mental health. Also the officers have to be in control of their emotions even when provoked. The independent variables of stress in officers are headaches, high blood pressure, fatigue, insomnia, restlessness and aging. The independent and dependent variables will be operationalized and measured by high level and low level stresses and genders of the officers. Likewise the ranks of police officers will be included in the evaluation. Stress is a natural response in any occupation. Stress is the issue with female and male police officers and the questions of whether they undergo more stress when acting as an authority figure. The equivalence of the groups will be ensured including minimizing selection bias by random assignment of officers; each participating officer will have an equal chance of taking the survey. Every officer will be required to complete a survey. The pretest and posttest will be administered by having the officers in the experiment group and in the control group monitor their stress levels over a period of time. However, the control group will receive no treatment, but will undergo the same test while the experiment group will go through the in house counseling services. The results will provide the data necessary to determine if the counseling service will reduce stress in the officers who participated in the study.

With any problem, the first step to reaching a solution is identifying key signs or symptoms associated with the issue. Police officers tend to display an array of physical or behavioral changes when they are feeling conflicted or stressed out. A main part of being a good supervisor is noticing even the smallest changes in the actions and behaviors of those that work under their command.
Young people and the police have, for many years, experienced a tense and confrontational relationship (Borgquist & Johnson et al., 1995). This has led to a great wealth of literature based upon the notion of police-youth interaction. Much of this literature has tended to focus upon juvenile criminality and the reasons why young people commit such seemingly high levels of crime. Whilst the relationship between young people and the police force has been widely theorised and explained, there is very little literature on juvenile attiudes towards the police. Research that concerns societies attitudes towards the police force tends to focus upon the views and opinions of adults (Hurst and Frank, 2000). In this first section of my literature review I am going to focus upon work that allows us to gain a deeper understanding of why young people are so important when looking at crime. This section will allow us to comprehend the ways in which, literature suggests, young people view the police. This knowledge will provide a basis for my research in which I look more specifically at youth attitudes towards PCSO’s.

In my opinion, the many different views of police culture can vary in many different situations. I say this because of the many different views this can be misleading at times. I think what's needed is reform of a police culture that has often infected relations between police and blacks, destabilized respect for cops and the law, and set the basis for the many deaths.
