The very vast and dominating history of the Pittsburg Steeler made it very interesting to write this paper on their large fan base. The Pittsburg Steelers where founded in 1933 making the city complete with 3 teams in the hierarchy: Pittsburgh Pirates, and the PITT Panthers. In the beginning they looked like a joke at times compared to the present day Cleveland Browns. This was until the hiring of head coach Chuck Noll in 1969 and the drafting of future Hall Of Fame Defensive Tackle “Mean Joe” Greene. The fan base started to sky rocket during the 1970-1980; this team won 4 Superbowls in the 1970 alone. But in the early 1980 the steel mill in Pittsburgh closed this meant that people had to leave to find new jobs. With the primary colors of black and yellow. The Steelers Nation that are from Pittsburgh have a very strong accent but they also have a very different slang that you would not use anywhere else. But the biggest thing you have to distinguish someone when is in the Steelers Nation or not is by seeing if they carry a “Terrible Towel”; a terrible towel is a trade mark for Steeler Nation when it comes to Sundays home or away you could count on there being multiple packs of Steeler fans waving yellow towels.
