One of the most storied franchises in all of professional sports the Pittsburgh Steelers have put this steel town on the map as the city of champions. “The Chief” Art Rooney a southwestern Pennsylvania native founded the Steelers in 1933. However, the team would be named “Pirates” at first and would be the 10th team to join the NFL. The first game the “Pirates” ever played in franchise history was against the New York Giants, which they lost. In 1940 the “Pirates” finally renamed and became the Steelers. Around this time WWII started and the Steelers had to combine their team with Philadelphia for one year known as the Steel Eagles or Steagles. About three decades later the Steelers hired Coach Chuck Noll in 1969. He had drafted guys like Mean Joe Greene, Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert and Franco Harris. These guys would all become some of the greatest football players of all time and would bring four of the 6 superbowls to Pittsburgh. The Steelers won the four …show more content…
Chuck knoll retired in 1991. He would become one of two coaches to ever win 4 superbowls, and arguably one of the best drafting coaches in history. The Steelers were about to gain some “Cowher Power” when they hired Bill Cowher in 1992. Cowher was the Kansas City Chiefs' Defensive Coordinator before coming to the steel city and briefly played in the NFL with the Eagles and the Browns. “Cowher Power” was alive and well when he took the Steelers to the playoffs every year for his first 6 seasons. The Steelers returned to the superbowl in 1996 and would lose to our rival from the seventies The Dallas cowboys. Soon after that superbowl Bill Cowher would trade for Jerome Bettis aka “The Bus”. Number thirty-six went on to be one of the best Running backs in league history helping Cohwer have an overall record of 161-99-1 during his time as a head coach with the

Although the film did not examine in detail the knowledge coach Herman Boone possessed before he began his position with the Titans, it shows glimpses into his experience and wisdom. Boone clearly knew and loved football, as evidenced by his hours of dedication and labor. In the scene where he is first introduced to coach Yoast, he describes his past experience as a coach in North Carolina, and his previous winning seasons. Coach
Coaching any sport is much harder than it seems. There are some jobs that almost anyone with the right education can do. Coaching is definitely not one of those jobs. One can get educated on drawing X's and O's on a paper for decades and still might be far from being a successful coach. Of course knowledge of the sport is very important too but to be successful in a job like coaching, one has to dedicate himself to his job; his job has to be his life. This is the major reason even those who hate Patriots still respect Bill Belichick and agree that he had unique abilities that make him so successful. His exceptional intelligence, his ability to break down and exploit game film, his singular discipline and his almost unmatched work ethic makes him probably the best coach in the NFL today and even one of the best in the history of the NFL.
Frist, we want to look at the record, Pittsburgh had in the early 70’s compared to the later 70’s. In 1970 the Pittsburgh Steelers went 5-9 with five win and nine losses, seeing that you could tell we had a losing record. The next year 1971 we improved to 6-8, you could say that was because “in the 70’s Pittsburgh picked into the Baltimore Colts roster and grabbed running back Terry Cole and tight end Ara Person all on waivers.” (writer) “As well Pittsburgh drafted Terry Bradshaw in the 70’s draft First Overall.” (NFLDraft) In 1972 Pittsburgh went an impressive 11-3, “winning their first tile in the 40th try to the chargers. They also beat the Raiders in the divisional playoffs despite the loss of starting receiver Frank Lewis with a broken collarbone” (Writer, Steelers Win First Tile in 40th Try), but then loss in the conference championship to the Dolphins 21-17. This could have been because of the draft pick we had made in 1971 and 1972, “Jack Ham linebacker in round 2 of 1971 and the first round of 1972 Franco Harris.” (NFLDraft) In 1973 Pittsburgh dropped down to 10-4 we made it to the playoff...

Vince Lombardi is a household name in america due to his affiliation with the NFL. However, not many people know why his name is on the greatest trophy in american football. I admire Vince Lombardi for his incredible ability to manage a team. Vince was a strategic leader who had a vision for his team and understood what it would take to achieve his goal. He was also extremely interpersonal. Which is what I have been working to achieve the entirety of my high school career. From his analyzing his work, I have learned to be a better leader, and overall a better person. Vince Lombardi not only was able to effectively manage his team, he did it without discriminating anyone. He was known for the respectful treatment of his team, no matter color
