Last year there were more than 10,000 “dangerous” dogs euthanized, not for biting someone or for crowding up space in a kennel, but for doing nothing wrong… these dogs were not given the chance of life just for being a certain breed (Death Row Dogs). Mark Buehrle a major league pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays has a wife, two children, and four dogs; one of their dogs is a pit bull named Slater. Slater is a very lazy laid back dog who would rather sleep all day than go for a walk (The Champions). Mark played for the Chicago White Sox for 11 years before signing with the Miami Marlins. Pit bulls can be very dangerous if trained to be or not trained at all. When a person adopts a pit bull puppy they need to socialize it early so when older it does not get frightened or aggressive with other people or dogs. When there is a dog attack most people say “Oh, that dog must be vicious I should be more careful when I see one” and go on with their daily life. If more people would stop and research the animal that attacked it is 90% of the time it was the owner's fault (Death Row Dogs) mistreating or not training the animal correctly. All dog breeds are dangerous from the chihuahua to the great dane, but over the years it has just been a fad of what the most dangerous dog is in America. In the mid-1900s, the dangerous dog was the german shepherd but that changed when the movie Rin Tin Tin came out, after that the most dangerous dog was the Doberman then the rottweiler and soon after the pit bull. The media kept the pit bull image a bad one for a long time and it stuck with the American people. The pit bull is considered by 85% of people the most dangerous domesticated dog in the world (Death Row Dogs). Soon enough the media will change the dangerous status to another dog and our country will change all of it’s thinking over again. We need to stop the media from controlling our way of thinking over every little stereotype they can think of to make themselves
