Pit bulls historically have been used as hunting and working dogs, but few people think of one when they hear the words "service dog." Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherd Dogs tend to be the most popular breeds used to assist disabled persons. Pit bulls, however, are loyal, adaptable canines suited to almost any kind of work and can make wonderful service dogs. Unfortunately, a great deal of fear and misconception swirl around this breed, and owning a pit bull service dog evokes unique societal and legal issues.
Would you rather have a plan old dog or a pitbull as a pet? Pitbulls should be allowed as pets. Pitbulls are a model for pride, working dogs, and guardians.
The current popular television show “Pit Bulls and Parolees” is combating the negative image of Pit Bulls, that the media has portrayed for so long. The show is a positive example of how Pit Bulls can be rehabilitated, while at the same time helping parolees to adjust back into society, giving both the dog and the parolee a new purpose in life. The majority of these dogs have been rescued from owners who have abandoned the dog, and left them to die. Both the Pit Bull and parolee have been through simular situations, escaping death or the dealth penalty, and offered a second chance at life
In recent years it has been the pit bull which has come under the scrutiny of legislative bodies, as their reputation becomes more and more sullied by street crime. To say “pit bull,” however, is a vague reference to several pit bull types, which are considered separate breeds by registries like the American Kennel Club (AKC). Each type has a slightly different breeding history; many began with the breeding of bulldogs with terriers to produce a loyal, compact and tenacious breed (“American Pit Bull Terrier”). The three standard pit bull types most often mentioned by name in breed-specific legislation include the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. That is not the extent of the legislation, however, which also includes dogs that “substantially conform to the breed standards established by the American Kennel Club” (Melvindale)....
Currently, pit bulls have been reported by the media with very horrific and disturbing news of having attacked a child or being shot by a police due to aggression while some are reported to have been abused or neglected by its owners (Forderer and Unkelbach 534). And because the reports keep coming with heated discussions, more and more people have forged a frightening image of pit bulls even to the extreme of refusing to take care of such breed. Pit bull advocates claim that the dogs get a bad reputation considering that people should learn the dogs are not inherently aggressive. What the pit bull advocates would like to point is that the owners of the pit bulls should be considered guilty for mishandling of their own dogs. There are owners of pit bulls that even encourage the dog to be aggressive in order to fight and protect them in a wrong manner and wrong degree of training (Forderer and Unkelbach 536). Pit bull advocates claimed that a well socialized and well trained pit bull would be very intelligent and could be one of the gentle dogs imaginable.
It can be a companion, an aide, or both. Pet dogs are loyal and make wonderful company, and an emotional support dog creates bountiful joy, but a service dog is much more. A service dog not only serves the same role as a pet, but creates a safer environment for its owner. Without the service dog it would be much harder for the owner to get around on a daily basis indecently. However service dogs and their owners are discriminated against because people are skeptical of the dog’s legitimacy, but instead the service dogs and their owners should be respected and treated as
They will play many dog games with children without hurting them. They strive for the love of “their humans.” These dogs could also be great therapy dogs to those they care about. Pit bulls can keep people company and take their minds off whatever is bothering them. This breed also has a face that allows them to smile.
Armando Christian Perez, otherwise known as Pitbull, was born in Miami, Florida on January 14, 1981. Because of its great characteristics that the breed had. Which they were rightly seen as a friendly nature, loyalty, and stability. The Pitbull or the American Staffordshire terrier got the nickname because how unparalleled love and devotion for the children. They were known as the nanny dog throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Do you ever wish that could bring your dog into a store with you? Well, people with service dogs wish they could too. A person with a service dog is defined as a person who needs assistance because of their disability. A disability can range from blindness, to psychiatric disorders, and chronic pain. Service dogs have been refused entry into public businesses and restaurants, because they are dogs. Businesses owners refuse service dogs, since they believe they are disruptive messy. We are supposed to be an accepting, friendly society, yet we won’t even let people with service dogs into public businesses.
I don't believe Pitt bulls are born to be mean. In every litter of pups that any breed of dog has there is one out of the litter that has a dominate side to it as well as one that is shy. Pit bulls are no different than the other breeds. Their master determines the behavior and aggressiveness, just as any other breed of dog's behavior. Pit bulls are gentle dogs if trained and raised properly. They like to be lap dogs as well as receive and give attention to their masters.
There are many breeds of dogs to choose from some of the most common are golden retriever, German shepherd, and Labrador retriever. Many people can pick almost any breed they are looking for though. The common breeds I pointed out are used because of their intelligence, willingness to work, and their mobility. The dogs that help are really filling a hole that these people have.
Usually, the media only reports bad things about pit bulls without ever showing the good of pit bulls. This makes these dogs look down upon by people who have never been around or cared for one. Not only does this make them have a bad reputation, but it makes pit bulls least likely to be cared for or owned just because of that. Many people often say that even though some are well-behaved, most of them are dangerous and should be banned from being owned. Their defense to back this argument up would be because that pit bulls are “bred” to be killers, that they attack more than any other breed, and that they especially put their owners at risk because they are more likely to attack them than others. Most people that say this are not very informed of what a pit bull really is. These dogs are no different from other breeds and many people who own a pit bull know that. Many other people are not aware that pit bulls have many traits that make them like any other dog. These traits make them to be great service dogs, and just like any ordinary dog, to be the great pet that they can be, they also need to be respected and well cared for like any other
Animal-assisted therapy is often confused with service dog; it is two completely different type of usage of animals, which usually are dogs. It is commonly misunderstood because animal-assisted therapy and service dog are working animals with individuals with disability although according to (Hart-Cohen, 2009) service dogs is when an individual with disability is in need of help in order to function in daily life such as answering the door, crossing the street and the list goes on. While animal-assisted therapy animals are trained to offer comfort companionship, and affection to those in need in different situations such as courtrooms, nursing homes, schools, hospitals, and other places (Hart-Cohen, 2009). The point of animal-assisted therapy is to be available in specific situations to offer comfort to individuals. In order to become an assisted animal, the animal must undergo training, to receive a certified to prove that the animal is qualified to be able to control his or her behavior and is able to work with an...
Many Families in the united states own dogs, almost 37% of households. With this they need loving dogs who make great companions. Pitbull’s are surprisingly not good guard dogs. They don’t get sick easily and they are easy to care for. They
Although this fact is not specific to the Pit-Bull breed it is, however, an extremely important truth to remember in any animal situation. Pit-bulls are a cross-bread of Terrier and Bulldog breeds that were bread together starting in the late 1700’s. They were first used to dig out vermin and herd stray cattle, but this breed can be trained for so much more; guide, law enforcement, military, search and rescue, and service dogs are the most suitable options for training these mild beasts (Tullis 54). Elle, a vibrant pit, was trained to teach children on the important matter of dog safety. She also participates in classes to teach other pit-bulls how to help their companions.
