My report is going to be on guide dogs. In this I will show how the guide dogs are used in everyday life. I will show how they are trained to help the blind. I will show you about guide dogs and service dogs. I will also show you the dog breeds used for guide and service dogs. In this I will show you the importance of guide dogs to the disabled. Guide dogs begin training at just a puppy. The dogs are taught basic things like to sit, stay, wait, down, off, etc. and of course they are taught to be house broken. The social training for the dog is one of the most important of all they will learn. During this training dogs are introduced to sights, smells, sounds, and unusual surfaces. The trainers also keep close attention to their socializing toward dogs, people, and traffic. And this is a basic training for a guide dog. Many people refer to these dogs as guide dogs, but there is another way to call a dog that leads, a service dog. They are very alike in ways that they both have to watch out closely to everything that’s going on around them. A service dog are hearing dogs, they are used for the deaf. Another type of service dog is a seizure alert dog, but these dogs are very uncommon to see. And these are the types of service dogs. There are many breeds of dogs to choose from some of the most common are golden retriever, German shepherd, and Labrador retriever. Many people can pick almost any breed they are looking for though. The common breeds I pointed out are used because of their intelligence, willingness to work, and their mobility. The dogs that help are really filling a hole that these people have.
According to the ADA, dogs are the only kind of service animal. These dogs are especially trained to help
It can be a companion, an aide, or both. Pet dogs are loyal and make wonderful company, and an emotional support dog creates bountiful joy, but a service dog is much more. A service dog not only serves the same role as a pet, but creates a safer environment for its owner. Without the service dog it would be much harder for the owner to get around on a daily basis indecently. However service dogs and their owners are discriminated against because people are skeptical of the dog’s legitimacy, but instead the service dogs and their owners should be respected and treated as
...are 2 years old, the master and dog go home together after they have completed their training. After a while the master and their dogs start to travel everywhere with each other. German shepherds, meanwhile, “Have no extreme work ethic,” she says. “Not everyone can handle a German Shepherd. They do tend to get more protective as they get older; there’s a fine line between keeping your person safe and protecting them.” Guide dogs lead their masters around the stairs and curbs. They help their masters so that they don’t run into anything like benches, fences, hanging tree branches and many other things. These special dogs have guided people around for more than 100s of years. When guide dogs are done for the day they like to lie around and play with their toys just like most people do. Guide dogs for about 8-10 years. During this time the dogs walk about5,600 miles.
Do you ever wish that could bring your dog into a store with you? Well, people with service dogs wish they could too. A person with a service dog is defined as a person who needs assistance because of their disability. A disability can range from blindness, to psychiatric disorders, and chronic pain. Service dogs have been refused entry into public businesses and restaurants, because they are dogs. Businesses owners refuse service dogs, since they believe they are disruptive messy. We are supposed to be an accepting, friendly society, yet we won’t even let people with service dogs into public businesses.
It's not unusual to see a dog leading and assisting a blind person. You have probably seen a few of those trained dogs during the course of your life. But have you ever noticed a dog helping a deaf person? A hearing dog is just as important as another type of assistance dog, they alert their handler to important sounds, such as doorbells, smoke alarms, ringing telephones, alarm clocks, sirens, or a person calling their owners name. In 1979, there was an international conference for vets, they brought up the idea of hearing dogs for deaf people. A man named Bruce Fogle was at the conference and he was very interested in the idea of hearing dogs. When he got back home he wrote to the Royal National Institute for Deaf People and elaborated on the idea of hearing dogs. The RNID were very interested, but said they didn't have the money to further his ideas. However, eventually enough money was rounded up and the first training center was opened. The first training center was established at Chinnor in Oxfordshire, and the organization was officially launched in February 1982. Bruce Fogle ...
This has led to the belief that dogs can provide company, affection and support to people who are going through a difficult time or who feel lonely. Dogs have aided humans in tasks such as hunting, livestock herding, and guarding. However, as society moved from small rural communities to increasingly large metropolitan areas, the dog’s role changed. Throughout the years a more specific type of canine has helped improve the quality of human life in many ways. These animals are known as therapy dogs. Therapy dogs have been tremendously helpful; providing physical and psychological stability for students and health patients, assisting federal governments to boost morale, and presently, studies are being done to substitute medication for therapy dogs.
Childhood obesity has been on the rise in the last couple of years. In the 1970’s childhood obesity was never a concern to the public until the number increased over the years. An alarming rate of 31% of all adults have been obese since they were children and the rates of childhood obesity don’t fall too behind with an 18% of children being obese. That makes almost half of obese adults and children. A child that is obese has a 70-80% higher chance of staying obese even through their adulthood if no action is taken. Childhood obesity is not something children are in control of, these children suffer from different outcomes since they can’t look after themselves and heavily rely on someone to aid them when they need it. These numbers can be drastically altered in a positive way by educating both children and parents about healthy, nutritious foods to consume, supplying schools with better lunch and healthier vending machines with healthy choices and promoting after school activities to keep children active and away from electronics.
Childhood and adolescent obesity is a problem of significant concern. Whether obese or at risk, excessive fat is based on the ratio of weight to height, age, and gender of the individual (Ul-Haq, Mackay, Fenwick, & Pell, 2013). Today’s youth are considered the most inactive generation in history thus, childhood and adolescent obesity is more prevalent than ever before. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) documents the obesity rate in children ages 6-11 in 2012 at 18% (an increase from seven percent in 1980), and adolescents at 21% (an increase from five percent in 1980). The obesity rate in children has more than doubled and quadrupled in adolescents over a 30-year period (CDC, n.d). The factors responsible for childhood and adolescent obesity are related to childhood lifestyle, family influence, and community factors (CMA Foundation, 2008). The Healthy People 2020 goal, NWS-10.4, is to “reduce the proportion of children and adolescents aged 2 to 19 years who are considered obese from 16.1% to 14.5%” (Healthy People 2020, 2013). Overweight children and adolescents are at increased risk for severe medical issues that can last a lifetime. Interventions to reduce the incidence and improve the health of young people involve solutions at the primary (low risk youth), secondary (at risk youth), and tertiary (obese) levels (Sweeting, 2008). Parents, caregivers, and medical professionals can work together in diagnosing if the child is becoming obese or if the child is having a growth spurt (Ul-Haq et al., 2013).
It is imperative that society coalesces to help prevent childhood obesity. No child or parent wants to suffer through any type of heart condition or disease, whether it be now or later on in their lives. Experts have seen the rising obesity rate as a wake-up call to take the “epidemic” of childhood obesity very seriously. Because of the fact that childhood obesity is interconnected with so many health issues it significantly affects lifespans. Childhood obesity can be prevented and needs to be in order to ultimately save the lives and future lives of children.
For the past 10 years, obesity has become an epidemic. Not only adults are obese but children as well. The number of children with obesity keeps increasing each year. There are children being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and other serious health problems due to their obesity. Some experts are predicting that obesity will became the number one leading cause of premature death, instead of tobacco. There are many ways to prevent obesity in children and is up to the parent, to provide their children with healthier food options.
Gun control continues to be a controversial issue for many, especially in the wake of so many recent, tragic mass shootings in the United States this year alone. With gun control being such a polarizing issue, it is difficult for both sides of different parties to agree to certain terms. With impactful events like the Columbine shooting of 1999, to the rising rate of lives being taken by guns, the issues surrounding gun control continue to grow.
Gun control is one of the hottest issues that has been around in the United States and around the world for decades. During the wake of many tragic shootings, this issue has come up as an important decision opportunity for our country to review its gun laws. Although many people believe firearms are the killing machines, which gun control exists in order to protect innocent people as the way to reduce crimes and brings down people’s death rate; however, guns are also considered as the helpful tool that many other people believe guns are the helpers in a time of crisis when situations have gone bad, and other people are unable to help. One of variety reasons people oppose gun control is because gun control will not prevent gun violence and gun
Today they are considered a part of the police force, and in many departments they even have their own badges. From the hundreds of dog breeds, there are some that are widely known for their presence in law enforcement. The most widely trained dog for regular patrol work is the German Shepherd. Other excellent breeds include, but are not limited to, the Labrador Retriever, Belgian Malinois, and the Dutch Shepherd (Beaken, 2013). In today’s age, most local police agencies are transitioning from German Shepherds to Belgian Malinois because of their ability to work on the same level, better built, lighter weight and longer life span than the German Shepherd. Certain breeds have been used for special purposes, such as detecting illegal drugs or explosives, and tracking fugitives or missing persons (Burns, 2014). For law enforcement, police departments believe a well-trained canine team is essential to deterring criminal activity and for assisting in locating illegal drugs and explosives, in tracking fugitives, and with finding missing persons.Once the dog has found the item, it gives one of two kinds of
You will realize that dog training basically builds a solid relationship between you and your dog. It establishes you as a pack leader. The time you spend together as a team, learning about each other, normally deepens your bond.
No dog is the same in the way that each breed has a different personality, color, shape, and size. When looking at these qualities and trying to determine the greatest dog breed of all time, being well rounded in each of the listed criteria should be a top priority. With this in mind, there is one breed that stands out among all the others with its strength in each category. There is no surprise that the Labrador Retriever would be at the top of the list being that they are the most popular family pet in the USA, UK, and many other parts of the world. It should also be pointed out that they wouldn’t be the most popular dog breed without valid reasons behind it. This versatile dog, with it’s many desirable traits has made them a perfect fit into the various roles of society.
