In the first stages of building my pinhole camera it was extremely difficult I struggled do to the factor of not having good communication with my project partner who was always absent. So I had to learn right away that working by myself was fine and to not give up to do only one set of hands. When I built my camera I put my pinhole on the wrong side and after several light leaked negative photographs, I realized If I continued it would be difficult. The next class when I came in someone had took it upon themselves to destroy my pinhole camera my ripping apart the insides. It was a blessing in disguise, after I re-positioned my pinhole and glued the paper holders back into the box I began to see amazing results. I cut my exposure time from
In the years between 1933 and 1945, Germany was engulfed by the rise of a powerful new regime and the eventual spoils of war. During this period, Hitler's quest for racial purification turned Germany not only at odds with itself, but with the rest of the world. Photography as an art and as a business became a regulated and potent force in the fight for Aryan domination, Nazi influence, and anti-Semitism. Whether such images were used to promote Nazi ideology, document the Holocaust, or scare Germany's citizens into accepting their own changing country, the effect of this photography provides enormous insight into the true stories and lives of the people most affected by Hitler's racism. In fact, this photography has become so widespread in our understanding and teaching of the Holocaust that often other factors involved in the Nazi's racial policy have been undervalued in our history textbooks-especially the attempt by Nazi Germany to establish the Nordic Aryans as a master race through the Lebensborn experiment, a breeding and adoption program designed to eliminate racial imperfections.
The Tell Tale Heart, written by Edgar Allan Poe, and Psycho, directed by Alfred Hitchcock were both formidable, revolutionary and horrifying creations to the audience’s of their times and to some extent, still are today. Hitchcock drew audiences in into his work by utilizing certain camera angles, mise-en-scene and diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. However, Edgar Allan Poe used a variety of literary techniques such as varying sentence structure, imagery and irony to draw his readers in. While these two masterpieces are unique in terms of content, both of them explore a prominent theme, fear.
After considering the information in this week’s instructor guidance and readings, I have selected the research topic:
On March 20, 1972 at 11:45 a.m. an anonymous phone call was made to police headquarters in Belfast, Northern Ireland warning of a bomb in crowded Church Street (Fisk 2). At 11:52 a.m. a second emergency call reached police headquarters confirming the threat of a bomb (Fisk 2). The police made efforts to evacuate the street as quickly as possible. Then, at 11:55 a.m. headquarters received a third emergency call warning of a bomb, but this time the caller gave the location of the bomb to be in the adjoining Donegall Street (Fisk 2). Three minutes later a 100-pound gelignite bomb exploded in Donegall Street killing six people and wounding 147 others (Fisk 1). The bombing was a terrorist act by the Irish Republican Army (IRA), whose mission is to drive the British out of Northern Ireland.
A major issue in today’s society is police brutality. Everyday we come across videos on the internet showing policemen using excessive force on citizens and sometimes even police shooting and killing people who might seem innocent. The problem with the videos that are posted online is that they don’t show the whole story behind what is occurring and they give off a bad reputation to all cops. Body cameras for officers were first recommended in 2013 after many reports accusing officers of racial profiling and in 2014, police departments received a big federal fund in order begin equipping police officers with body cameras after many protests over a shooting of a young black teenager. Body cameras
Are Police in the United States out of control? I believe that police brutality is over sensationalized in today 's society. Allegations of police brutality has continued making headlines since the 1990s. Recent deaths have sparked riots and created the Black Lives Matter movement. A lot of the stories portray police officers as harmful beings, but a lot of times the news only tells one side of the story, which usually makes them out to be the villains. If the police were really abusing their power, wouldn’t there be more deaths? Police have the right to stop and question an individual if they suspect that individual or circumstance seems suspicious. Police are criticized everyday for the judgement they make. When something happens, police
It's all so much easier with digital, including the last bit about culling the images. Instead of using a magnifier, I can look at each image full screen and even magnify it beyond that to see critical areas. Now, that I'm not restricted by a finite number of images (memory cards notwithstanding), I tend to shoot more pictures than necessary, even some grab shots along the way or some, I call, experimental.
In Raymond Carver’s short story “The Viewfinder”, the homeowner went from being a curious individual into a sorrowful man. In the beginning of the story we can tell the man is curious about the man with no hands. This is shown in the text when, “I wanted to see how he would hold a cup.” However, by the end of the story the homeowner went from being curious to sorrowful and longing for his family. This is evident when, “‘It won’t work,” the man said. ‘They’re not coming back.’” The man with no hands says this because the homeowner is so sorrowful and desperate for his family to come back that it seems he’ll almost do anything. Finally if the man was not sorrowful and desperate for his family I don’t believe that he would have climbed the roof.
On Sunday, May 16th, 2015, the Buckeye Photography club endeavored on an intense photographic extravaganza. The club had a very full day planned, from travelling to Tower City to the West Side Market. When the club exited the rapid station of the Market they were greeted by a very large, shiny ball made of wood and its smaller companion. Their reaction, obviously, was to touch the large, waxy structure and to try to find out what is was. On a plaque near the base of the large, dark ball was a small description; the ball was a time capsule, set to be opened in 2050. It was now evident that their next plan of action should be to take a picture with the giant ball. It was also evident that the only way that one can take a picture with a giant
I am here today to help you wade through the mazes of equipment and composition, hopefully showing you how to make better pictures.
A photographs exposure determines how light or dark an image will appear when it’s been captured by your camera. Believe it or not, this is determined by just three camera settings, APERTURE, ISO and SHUTTER SPEED (the exposure triangle).
Drone photography is one of the factually an experience which all photographers should try to have a feel of it. Though there are lots many technicalities involved but are going to give you the experience. Imagine of driving a motorbike going head on with a car coming from the other side and you move away from the track before you get bumped by the car. This actually what speaks of the experience that you feel while shooting a drone video or pictures.
In today’s society violence has become something that we hear and read about on a regular daily basis. It has become such a topic of conversation, that is seems to have turned out to be a part of the modern-day society. Violence is never just in a particular region or just on the streets. It is everywhere, including the places where we live our everyday lives and go about our everyday routines. It is in the schools where we send our children, in the neighborhoods, on the television, and even in some homes. Violence is all around us, but where does this violence come from. Most people would blame it on the upbringing of the person who has committed the act of violence, and then there are those whom believe that the fictionality of video games, movies, and/or books are the source.
While making this project, and completing the other Personal Projects throughout the year, I mainly learned about the developing of photos and the origin of photography. When I was making the poster, I had to research for two days straight, looking up what to develop photographs with and how to develop photographs. After, when I bought the materials to develop photos, took the first photo with my homemade oatmeal box pinhole camera, and developed the my first photograph, I made a mistake. But, I definitely learned a lot about developing photos from that single mistake. Since I went back to the photography store where I bought the developing supplies four times in that one week, I learned more and more about developing photos every time. Before completing these Personal Projects, This project increased my little to no knowledge of the topic and made my passion for photography bigger. I now really understand my topic, too. Now that I've learned the base of photography, I will understand different subjects in the branches of photography I want to learn about in the future. I think that it's good to learn the base of a subject before you learn the entire subject because it gives you a good idea of what the subject's roots really are. After studying photography for a year, I've learned about how photography started, what pinhole cameras and camera obscuras are,
Digital camera is a very important tool nowadays. People would always want to save their memories in the shape of pictures that will last forever. People were amazed when the first ever camera introduced back in hundreds of years ago. At that time camera consisted of large and impractical components and it was very hard to use. In fact, it even took quite some time to develop the pictures on the paper. But now there are some products of digital camera that are very easy to use and with its pocket-sized feature, one can carry it everywhere. There are several advantages of using digital camera: very easy to use, easy to carry on, instant feedback; which means one can immediately review the captured pictures and erase any pictures that they don’t like. One real advantage of digital camera is that one can share the pictures with other people easily thanks to the high speed internet connection. Before digital camera one has to print pictures, paying for postage, and waiting for the pictures to be delivered. Gone were that days since it is possible now to share the pictures online within minutes.
