I stand with both sides on wether or not Phy Ed should be a class. I think that everyone should be aware of how to eat right, exercise and be informed about subjects taught in Phy Ed. It has shown very positive results in a child's education, like an improved long and short term memory, physical, mental, and skeletal health benefits, and exposure. I would not argue that it's wasted class and I think that it has defiantly been under rated. We can see this by observing the world. One third of our population is obese, and Phy Ed could be an essential class to prevent/limit obesity. It is very important to learn how to eat right and live a healthy life, because it carries with you for the rest of your life. I also like how Phy Ed provides children …show more content…
with time to exercise in school. It's not healthy to be sitting staring at a screen all day, so I understand the benefits of the exercise. Here's where I start to disagree.
I agree that all states should require it to be offered, but I don't think that everyone should be required to take it if they don't need it. I exercise around 12 hours a week because I'm a competitive dancer. I don't think that it's necessary for me to get even more exercise when I could be taking an extra curriculum class for my academic education. I think that it's still important for me and everyone else to learn about Phy Ed, but not necessarily do all the exercise. I would like if there was an option about Physical Education learning, that doesn't include all the exercise, or combined the Phy Ed units into a required health class. I do agree that their are plenty of others who need or would benefit from this class because of its exercise, but as being a fairly active person I would like more time to do other things. I'm already limited to a number of credits, so I wouldn't pick Phy Ed as my first. I would be more interested in taking a Physical Education learning class, without all the exercise. If you were given the option to skip the exercise you would need a reason for it. I think that if school gave this option they would require students to participate in a school sport or a local
team. I think that anyone who participates in moderate to rigorous activity at least 7 hours a week should be excused from the class. This would actually benefit your community and school more, because in would encourage you to join a sport, helping out the organization. This would get you more involved in your school or community (benefiting it) and would allow you to get even more exercise then just an hour or so in a Phy Ed class 4 days a week. There is no doubt that I haven't learned anything form this class, or that I disprove of it, it's just that I feel like it doesn't have to be a required class depending on your outside of school exercise
This assignment explores the term Andragogy and its origins, identifies the key people and their concepts on Andragogy and finally concurs in concluding the main themes in eLearning as applied to Andragogy today.
Who doesn’t want to have to do exercise? Everybody needs exercise to be in good health, but some people don’t like to exercise. They just want to stay inside and do nothing in life. Even though people don’t want to exercise all the time they could have a treadmill or a bike to exercise on instead of going outside and running or play basketball with friends just to lose weight. Sometimes students get lazy after work or school and don’t want to go outside and enjoy the nice weather. Although for students they have to exercise because they have to stay in shape for sports, but if the school is trying to take away interscholastic
This paper examines the issues associated to the disengagement of students in the health and physical education domain. Typically traditional curriculums have shown to foster anxiety and create undesirable competition amongst students through fitness testing. It is critical to understand the reasons behind the issues of why students are disengaging in the participation of physical education, as the sedentary behavior is becoming a major factor in the obesity epidemic.
Isn 't there a ridiculous amout of General Ed required in order to graduate these days? The thought comes to mind that why would schools require math if the student is going to work with animals? Sure, the budgeting is important, but that can be learned in a busness class that would be required anyway! General Ed teaches the skills that are needed to graduate with a degree in any given field, and for years this has been widely accepted, except generally by the community college students. If a student is training to become a teacher, then, absolutely, General Ed should be required because that is what they are going to be teaching. However, any college student who has completed highschool should not need to complete general ed for a second
For the first time in years, schools are considering imposing an extra mandatory class on students with the hopes of solving a deadly problem; however, it could be causing more problems rather than diminishing it. A statistic recently released by the Kaiser Family Foundation, has stated that in America, 31.3% of 10-17 year olds are either obese or overweight. To combat this issue, The President’s Council on Physical Fitness has introduced a proposal that would require every high school in the United States to have a daily and mandatory physical education class in order to promote healthy lifestyle choices. Very few states require P.E. daily for high school students; however, many states are considering adopting the proposal. Doing so seemed like a great way to combat the growing problem until I thoroughly researched the topic and found that the negatives outweighed the possible positives. Calvin Christian adopting the proposal created by the President’s Council on Physical Fitness regarding mandatory daily P.E. classes would be a huge mistake due to the negative effect on student’s physical and emotional health, the likelihood of an increased budget, and the possible cut of valued classes.
Arts and physical education are considered less important than core classes and are receiving less funding. One problem with having too much emphasis on core classes is that graduation rate is dropping. Students uninterested in core classes have no reason to attend school because there are not enough art or PE classes to get them interested. Complete focus on core subjects is causing students to get bored or distracted (Robinson). In order to increase graduation rate more time and money is spent on core classes however this just increases boredom(11 Facts About Education). Another problem is that obesity rates are raising because students are lazy when they do not participate in physical education. There is no inspiration to be fit or healthy when students are only taught the importance of core subjects. Kids also move slower when they are not active causing their brains to function slower (Benefits of PE in School). This lack of physical activity is also a cause for graduation rates dropping. One more problem includes that arts and PE as part of culture are not given enough attention. Students do not learn skills that are important in everyday culture when they are too focused on math and science. Students are unable to learn trades t...
In this paper I am going to use classical argument to support my claim of value, that classes involving exercise should be made a part of university requirements throughout the United States and specifically at Iowa State. I will do this by first stating a concession to those who do not believe exercise classes should be a part of the curriculum. Next, I will include a refutation section where my claims are supported against the opposing claims. Then, I will include the presentation of why universities need to require exercise classes. Last, I will conclude my paper by giving the solution to the problem of lack of exercise.
The value of physical education P.E. teachers bring to schools and their students. P.E. has an effect on everyday life. With this in mind I feel P.E. is highly valuable. Physical education activities have development in mind. Children can participate in a variety of activities and are encouraged to achieve overall wellness by continuously staying active.
eight to ten) should be applauded for this, but frowned upon for not enforcing it on senior high school students (grades 11 and 12). Physical Education is defined as “the process of education that develops the human body, specifically fitness and movement skills” (Baker, 1990, p. 14). This teaches students valuable skills that would be applicable to life, present and future. Students also learn how to work and interact with others to pursue goals in a way which academic subjects, such as mathematics and science, may not provide. Physical Education should be a requirement for all British Columbia high school students because it provides physical skills necessary for effective social functioning, offers educational value and teaches healthy habits reducing health risks.
Sport at school should NOT be compulsory. Sports training and PE take up time that could be better spent learning other subjects, and PE and Sport are not as important as other subjects like maths, science etc. It is also my belief that it students should have the right to choose whether or not we do sport/PE, because we are allowed to choose the subjects that are more important, so why are we not allowed to choose whether or not we do sport?Every year in PE, we do the same sports and the same practice drills, so after year 7, there is no point continuing to do PE, because the you are just doing the same things that you have done in previous years. 2 periods per cycle are spent on PE, 2 periods which could be spent on subjects like foreign languages, which are only allocated 4 periods per cycle or English or Science, which get 5 periods per cycle.
When talking about school we think of children learning different subjects, history, math, science and etc. I think learning about health and healthy life choices is as important as any other subject, and that should not just be restricted to classrooms. Schools have a great possibility to educate young people about the importance of being healthy.
Physical education in school systems is beneficial because it improves students’ health. Without physical education the child’s overall health will decrease. Despite these benefits, some people believe that physical education has no value to children in schools. Physical education is significant in schools because it improves children’s health.
Denise Amos later communicates in her article, "Physical education classes nationwide are switching focus toward fitness knowledge and encouraging healthy lifestyles and away from fitness competition and tests of endurance. In short, fewer teachers are forcing children to climb ropes or toss heavy medicine balls, and may no longer pit one student or group of students against another for a grade." (jacksonsville.com). Actions such as these ones are helping to make a correct shift in the way that academics and physical education in schools should be. With given time as well, an elimination of grades within fields like this one would hopefully help to influence students to want to dive into a life of fitness, educating themselves through school funded programs such as these, and in the end only benefit by being able to get taught how to live healthier lifestyles. This type of system is backed later in the article when the author states, "PE teachers today have much higher expectations. It 's more of a learning environment. We want kids to learn about their own personal fitness and to make decisions about that. And we want them to learn about their motor skills." (jacksonville.com). In a case with a system like this, where the focus is on the education itself, students are more likely to take interest and succeed. Students will feel a great weight lifted off their shoulders and be able to perform tasks at their greatest potential. They will gain more of a hands on style of education by incorporating in the case of physical education both physical activity, as well as classroom studies, which both have the purpose of teaching the students on how to live healthier lifestyles which can lead them down a more enjoyable learning
In conclusion, the time students spend in physical education classes should not be reduced or eliminated altogether. As I have discussed, the physical education course is just as necessary as reading, writing, and arithmetic. Everyone deserves a chance to live a healthy and long life, and education is the key to this success.
Before, the education system used to have the best interest of children but instead it seems as if the professionals who work for the system cares more about the job qualifications than the true value of education and how well the people are attaining it. Public education uses to led the road to success, but after going through thirteen years of it and seeing what the public education system is all about, people have come to realize that it only affect others later on in life negatively.
