Music and novels are two things that are very similar. They both are two things that most people like to interact with. A novel can make a character be referenced to a song so they go together. In which case, every song can relate to a character. Clarisse McClellan relates to the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams very much. Clarisse McClellan goes with the song “Happy” in many ways. Firstly, Clarisse is always happy and is content but has her doubts about the way society is run, while this song is very cheerful, upbeat and make the listener feel happy. As well as the fact that Clarisse talks about crazy stuff, the song references, “It might seem crazy, what I’m ‘bout to say” (Williams Stanza 1). The song also references, “Can’t nothing
My first song I´ve chosen is Sean McGee, song titled My Story. Mainly the song is about him facing different struggles, obstacles, and all the horrible things and situations he´s been in throughout his life. I can connect to this song and the lyrics for many reasons. One of his lines were ¨Do you know how it feels to be left out in the rain¨? And I have faced times like this when I feel like no one is there or have my back, and in the line he´s trying express how it feels to have nobody and be all alone. Also throughout this song he expresses how everyday you wake up your face with something rather it's just a minor issue or something that will greatly impact your life.
In her book she talks about being happy and how the Bible says “But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful” (Psalm 68:3). Throughout our days we have many thoughts, some are good and some are bad! But something important to remember is that what you think about will come out in your life. So it’s really important to keep your mind pure and think about godly and uplifting things. We also have this thought that we need certain things in life to be happy and that’s a lie. All we need is God, and we don’t need to live life thinking that we have to walk around pleasing everyone’s needs. The most important thing at the end of the day, Is that you pleased God and glorified him with your actions. Many relationships come our way in life, but the most important relationship is the one you share with God.
When you think of a happy song, you typically don't think about freedom. When were on this topic happiness is getting any small taste of freedom. Many songs I used in as my sources sang about someone getting free, or rebelling just for a moment of freedom. In these songs they fill you in in all the emotions and thoughts. They give great, yet short descriptions that paint a big image in your
A man by the name of Charles Simic once said, “Poetry is an orphan of silence. The words never quite equal the experience behind them”(Quote Land). Poems have been written for thousands of years. When most people think of poetry, they either think of a sonnet, limerick, all the way down to a haiku. They also think that a poem is something that must be recited, but in reality a poem can also be sang as a song. Lately more and more songs that are being released have a story behind them, trying to express feelings of loneliness, death, or past experiences. One of the best examples would be rap. Rappers love to tell about “their” life in the city; when the times were rough because they were poor and all the violence going on. But rap isn’t the only type of music that can be interpreted as a poem.
I think music has a way of explaining something or telling a story. Music can bring up happy times, it can also bring up sad times as well. Certain songs can remind someone of troubling issues from a past, can be the reminder of someone you have lost, it can also be a reminder of many happy times; such as weddings, high school dances, or even just hanging out with friends in the back
Music adds tension to the story “Where are you going, Where have you been?” It's powerful in the way that it influences Connie. Music creates tension between Connie's sense of reality and fantasy. She daydreams about boys based upon love songs, not her actual experiences with them. In fact, the encounters that she had with boys proved to be much less appealing than the romance she has seen on television, radio, films, etc. Music is also powerful for Friend. He uses it as a tool to seduce, control, and entice her. The power of music is overarching and has the power to influence us all. It has the ability to shape our understanding and help us communicate. Joyce Carol Oates' “Where are you going, Where have you been?” effectively demonstrates this concept as she shows music's impact on popular culture and adolescents.
One way music serves as a link is by tying the emotions of the reader to the situation and state of mind of the characters or community. The first instance of this is when the community is mourning the death of Robbins. The music starts with a crude call and response cry.
For many of us, one of the most accurate and effective ways to express the feelings that really matter to us is through music. We don’t only grow to attached to songs that are catchy, but also those with lyrics that we can relate to. It is not uncommon to feel like sometimes, artists can convey the way we feel better than we could ourselves. The storybook-like lines you read at the start of this page are a collection of lyrics
Also the songs really present the build up of certain situations on the stage and put a lot of attitude in the specific scene. For example the “ Jet Song” is the first song in the play. This is sung by a jet and it shows how much of a family they are. Another important song that is sung by Tony is “Something is Coming”. Tony sings this song to express his true feelings about the jets and how he has moved on from them. He has a gut feeling that something wonderful is going to take place soon in his life. Tony also sings a song called “Maria” which is about the girl he fell in love with at first sight. Maria sings a song called “ I feel pretty”. She sings this and explains how she is so in love with tony and she describes how nothing will tear her love with him apart. Riff sings a song called “cool” and it express his attitude and how he carries himself in fights, he means well and wants the best for the gang. All of these songs show how music can be a very powerful tool to express feeling and help be in that character 's
Music could be a symbol in the story because it was mentioned several times throughout. Music is everywhere within the story it is at restaurants, cars and homes. I believe that the music in the story relates to Connie’s feeling about boys and her sexual desire. It’s almost like Connie depends on the music, it could represent her desire to have a good time.
...ve influenced me to remain optimistic because in each situation the underdog became successful and overcame their obstacles. They all prove to be my favorites because I am able to relate to each one individually. I can relate to The Pursuit of Happyness because of my financial struggles, Roar by Katy Perry because there were situations in my life in which I had to remind myself how strong I am, Soul Surfer because as a cheerleader and field hockey player, I had to overcome many injuries, and A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke because the Civil Rights Movement is my history! When I start my journey at an HBCU for the next 4 years, there will be times when I will feel like I want to quit, but each time that I do, I will reflect on each of these artistic works and use them as motivation to remain optimistic with the hopes that something positive is waiting to happen.
Yes, I found Cathy Songs writing to be about relationships, and how they can guide our being on earth and in life.
A person can do more than just dance to music; they clean, laugh, sing, cry, and make some of the greatest memories while enjoying music. Music can take us back in time to past memories, whether they are good or bad. It can make us think of different phases of our life. Just hearing one song can take us back years. It can make us think of a certain person at a particular part in time. The words and lyrics in songs have a way of relating to some people. (White) (Lyon, Suzanne)
“Clap along if you know what happiness means to you”, sings Pharrel Williams in his hit single Happy. I relate to this verse because I know what happiness means to me it is my strength and it is my fortress, without happiness I am lost. “Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth,” (Williams), happiness is true to me, it has brought me many incredible memories into my life and got me through some very rough times, I believe happiness is the truth. Nothing will sink me down no matter what people say or think, “Can’t nothing bring me down,” (Williams). I will not let anyone or anything interfere with my happiness, I will not back down from a challenge, “Well, give me all you got, don’t hold it back,” (Williams verse 2). Happiness is what keeps me going, it’s what makes me the person I am today and it lies within me, “Happiness is everything,” (Steere).
Through music we are able to comprehend someone’s personality, their views, their culture, and who they are as an overall person. The music you listen to is a reflection of who you are and your own personal thoughts. As I reflect on the music I listen to I came to the conclusion that I gravitate towards songs that depict the emotions we feel through lyrics while being able to relate it to my own personal experiences.
