Pharmacist Personal Statement

At the tender age of ten years old, my first exposure to medicine came from the cartoon movie Osmosis Jones in which a cold medicine (Drix) and white blood cell (Osmosis Jones) band together to combat a pathogenic villain Thrax. That movie propels my fascination on the composition of drugs, their chemical and physical properties, and how drug interaction and the multitudes of cells interact like a team to mediate the body form viral and bacterial infections. In addition to the prospect of learning drug interaction, the possibility that as a pharmacist I can alleviate patients from suffering and pain inspired me to pursue a career in pharmacy. . The rewarding experiences I have had in my research, my volunteer experience, and have focused my energies and prepared me for the new challenges and responsibilities that lie ahead as an aspiring pharmacist.
During my pursuit as an aspiring pharmacist, like the cartoon was faced with several twist and turns. As a daughter of a single Haitian mother, I faced several challenges such as growing u in a neighborhood in which only twelve percent of its population actually graduate high school. During my undergraduate career was a member of the NIH sponsored program MBRS-RISE whose major initiative is to fund academic research for minority undergraduate students. My project in particular was founded in observing how NAD+ salvage pathway inhibitors affect the metabolism and reproductive structures C. elegans. The project in particular allowed me to understand how inhibiting the metabolic functions of tumors can be a potential therapy for tumor patients. The MBRS-RISE program gave me the opportunity to present two peer reviewed presentation (oral and poster) on molecular biology at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority
