ABC News reported, “This year, the world will generate 2.6 trillion pounds of garbage, the weight of about 7,000 Empire State Buildings.” Yet all of us, even you, are helping to destroy the land this is our home. People may think litter is a victimless crime, but it impacts people's safety, security and well-being, as well as their pocket-book.
Need
I. According to North Carolina Department of Public Safety, one mile of highway contains approximately 16,000 pieces of litter.
II. The biggest problem is unsecured loads in the back of trucks. At high speeds, even large items can fly out and hurt or startle other drivers.
III. Tobacco products make up more than one third of existing litter. Cigarette butts can poison children or animals who may find and eat them. Cigarette butts that accumulate outside of buildings, on parking lots or streets can be washed through storm drains to streams, rivers, and beaches. Lit cigarettes thrown from car windows can cause forest fires.

Heavily littered neighborhoods experience more vandalism and other crimes. Litter sends a signal to criminals that residents don't care about what happens in their neighborhood and makes the area more vulnerable. Littered places attract more litter.
Therefore, trash littering is wrong and we must do something about it.

Without clean ... ... middle of paper ... ... s for the people in these neighborhoods have gotten to be that of violence and drugs. These are not healthy norms. To change them, the communities could use more education on social issues in the schools and communities to help the people learn to live healthier lifestyles, to get the word out that violence and disruptance are not all right, and to help the people obtain some community unity.
In conclusion, littering needs to be terminated all together, though it will take more than a couple of months, it is possible. With a couple of community service organizations in Indianapolis trying their best to pick up all the litter, that is a first step towards a cleaner and healthier environment. The consequences of litter are very harmful and yet, more people are littering everyday not knowing what that they are putting themselves at risk. If cops become stricter about this law and look out for more litterers, and make the punishment much stricter, I believe in the future, littering will be much more uncommon and the environment will look more beautiful.
Pollution is affecting many individuals and life, as we know it. We need to do something about how it’s affecting our world. That’s why I urge the issue that more people should realize that pollution is an issue that needs to be prevented because of its negative consequences. Which are health affects, the total destruction of environments, and the death of animals and plants. More awareness must be brought up amongst the people and they must realize the long-term benefits it has for the world.
Attention Getter: Most of the people present here today probably recycle; some more than others. And probably, most people assume that they are saving natural resources and helping the environment. However, this is not always true.
about crime patterns…” This belief was to assure residents to give them less fear in their homes.
PURPOSE: To persuade my audience that we must take action now to control air pollution
Although Knoxville has many dangerous spots transportation wise, I have chosen an intersection in Alcoa in which I have much more knowledge of to discuss. This particular intersection is the US 129 bypass at Louisville Road. I mention that I have previous knowledge of this intersection because I am in fact an employee of this city, and have therefore compiled crash data as well as traffic counts for such. Not only is this intersection dangerous because of high speeds, but there is also a lack of acceleration lanes in which to enter traffic, and businesses such as Wal-mart and Cracker Barrel contribute to it’s cross road over crowding.
Plastic bags are used around the world by the billions. Approximately 380 billion plastic bags are used in the Unite States alone every year. In the city of Brownsville the plastic ban ordinance became effective on January 5, 2011. Therefore according to former Mayor Pat Ahumada, the ban has eliminated 350,000 bags per day. The litter problem resulting from plastic bag usage is becoming increasingly difficult and has costly negative consequences.
I am writing you today for a specific reason. I want to address the issue going on in the community. To be more precise, the issue is the rising percentage of homelessness in the area. The community have put some thought into to it and wanted to understand why isn’t there something being done about this. The externalities of this situation is negative in all ways. I see no positive externalities because being homeless has no benefits. They starve, they sleep in the streets, they beg for money, and they are emotionally damaged. Not only is it negative on them but it is negative for the human beings living in the area because diseases can float around in the air and crime rates can most definitely go up as well. The more homeless people we have
community. The concept believes this ultimately leads to a reduction in crime as the community
Every time I take a ferry over to Seattle, I walk across the bridge to 1st Avenue only to pass several people draped in rags, which barely qualify as clothing, who call the streets their home. Despite these conditions, there is always that one person who keeps a positive perspective, in this case the man who tells all the passing people to smile and have a great day.

Many of the ingredients in cigarettes are not substances that humans usually consume, but smokers (and the non-smokers around them) do. Some of the ingredients contained in cigarettes are a type of rat. poison, a type of paint stripper, a type of toilet cleaner, lighter. fuel, the chemical found in mothballs, poison that was once used in gas chambers and there is even a type of rocket fuel found in cigarettes (http://ash.org/additives.html).
American Lung Association). Also, when burned, cigarette smoke creates chemicals that affect our planet. “At least 50 of these chemicals are known to cause cancer, and many are poisonous” (What's in a Cigarette? American Lung Association). The American Lung Association goes on and lists a few of the chemicals and gives a brief example of what they are used for.
People should know the negative impact throwing away a water bottle or newspaper, purchasing meat from the grocery store or consuming gasoline has on the environment, and many do not. By informing society about how their decisions affect the environment, we can help save our planet and change our attitude toward the land we live on, the water we drink and the air we breathe” and truly show respect for the stuff that we depend on. The United States produces “about 8.25 billion tons of solid waste each year” (Russell 1). People do not realize the impact they have on our planet and the environment. When people throw anything in the trashcan, they are contributing to the destruction of our planet.
...mproper way of disposing of waste and other materials. Littering not only impacts our environment but also many animals. Even though many people see littering being done they do not do anything to prevent this. One thing that may occur is that many of these wastes that are improperly disposed of finds its way to the ocean or other places. This is something that can be very dangerous for many aquatic creatures because they could think that it is food and this would cause them to choke on it and eventually die. A lot of people litter because they really have no idea of the damage that they are causing our environment. Another reason why people do this is because they are too lazy to dispose the materials into a proper trash can. Most of the litter that is being thrown on the ground eventually goes and finds its way into the sewers and goes into the oceans and lakes.
