Have you ever noticed that when you "try" to stop focusing on something you can't? If I were to say don't think of pink elephants you would find yourself thinking pink elephants. If you're the visual type, you might even be seeing one in your mind's eye. So how do you stop negative thinking? Read on to discover three easy steps to stop negative thinking.
Change Your Focus
The easiest way to get out of negative thinking is to change your focus. You need to take your mind off what is negative and place it on something else. This sounds easy but it can be harder than you think. You may be worried about your job, about money, about your health, your relationship - any one of these worries can send you spiraling downward. But if you are not able to do anything about any of these things right now then you need to focus on something else.

Take A Moment to Dream
Play the "what if" game with yourself. Whatever you focus on that is negative has a positive side to it. What is that? Focus on that aspect rather than the negative. Maybe you're worried about your finances.
Give yourself a break and imagine what it would be like to not worry about your finances. Enjoy a moment of reverie that is opposite of what you are worrying about. Notice your feelings - see if you can stay in that feeling or find a way to propagate that feeling within you. Play the game with yourself of "if this were to happen, how would it feel?" Try and place yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally in the picture.
Feel the feelings of wealth, of love, of health, of your beauty. Regardless of whether or not you believe it, you are beautiful. Why? Because you are a child of the universe and you are here now. That makes you beautiful in my book.
Use Creative Visualization to Shift Your
If someone thinks negatively towards something the outcome will not be good, and vice versa. Thinking you can achieve the American dream is a major key in doing so, and some Americans are already on the right track. In the U.S., a survey showed that 36 percent of Americans say they have achieved the dream, and another 46 percent believe they are on the path of achieving it. It is not so easy, though, to always look on the bright side. Sometimes it seems as if nothing is going right; that is when negativity occurs. People can argue that mindset has little impact on the outcome, or that it does not matter how positive a person is because some things are just not meant to be. An article, however, proves this wrong. The paper argues how negative emotions prevent humans from flourishing; it also states, “if your ratio of positive to negative emotions is greater than 2.9013 to one, you will flourish both physically and psychologically.” If a person believes in themselves, they are more likely to accomplish their
There is much controversy over whether or not minors should be tried and convicted as adults; most often with cases involving murder.
Stop what you are doing, clear your mind, and focus only on your breath. When your thoughts begin to wonder, refocus and bring them back to your breath. This seems like a simple task, but most of us struggle to clear our minds for more than a few moments. Today’s fast-paced and technology driven culture constantly bombards our senses and more importantly, our thoughts. Our thoughts are constantly commandeered by fantasies, anxieties, and worries. We spend most of our time reliving past events and pondering the future. We spend work days feeling resentful, wishing we were anywhere else. We sit through family dinners thinking about all the chores that need to be finished. We worry about attending the class reunion because we aren’t sure what everyone will think. We do all of these things rather than focus on the experiences happening right here and now. Most of us are aware of this behavior, and yet we do it anyway. We spend very little time in the present moment, not for lack of want
I understand that I control my emotions and I realize how easy it is to snap out of negativity, even though it may seem hard some times. In addition, one thing in life that I always strive to remember is that I cannot control everything and that stressing over things that I cannot control is a waste of energy. I went through a small rough patch in my life a couple of years ago and finally had to tell myself to either let it go and move forward, or to remove myself from the situation, because continuing to feel the way I was feeling everyday was only going to make matters worse and ruin the best parts of me. When I finally did make that decision, I felt relieved and my attitude improved. When I had let my emotions control me, I was a wreck and hated who I was becoming; therefore, I wish everyone could have more control over their emotions as living with uncontrolled emotions takes a toll on everyday
I am adventurous. No I don't sky dive, wrestle crocodiles, or swim with sharks, but when asked by a group of friends to go cliff diving last summer, my best response was, “Sounds like fun!” I had never been afraid of heights yet have never experienced the thrill of cliff diving. All I could ask myself was, “What could go wrong?”
If it’s an emotional decision I’m sure you’re thinking short term and not long term. Make a list of all the long term con’s and pro’s and you’ll get to the decision. Emotions can overwhelm you and you can make the wrong decision. If you think back on emotionally biassed decisions have you had any regrets? We often don’t think long-term. If you think of your future self as a real person you’ll be much kinder to your future
mind keeps on slipping into other thoughts. I dont know if this happens to lots of people,
... deliberately keep up an inspirational state of mind with the goal that, regardless of what you experience, you'll have the capacity to see the lessons of the experience and keep on pushing forward. It is true that not everybody is sure and positive by nature. Here is a method an experienced human would change his/her attitude. Initially, settling down on a decision: and continually choosing to stay on a positive attitude. Second, consistently pursuing and listening to resources that reinforce that state of mind.
Overcoming adversity is imperative. In fact, you can 't have the happiness and success you want unless you have adversity in your life and overcome it. It is essential for progressing into who you want to be. It shows you what you are made of. It teaches you more about yourself, how to approach what you want, and how to maintain the success that you have. Without it, you wouldn 't know how far you could go or how capable you are because you wouldn 't have anything to push you or compare to.
Over the past semester, I have found the most challenging part of this course to simply be the transition from high school composition classes to college. Because writing expectations are so different in college than in high school, even with AP and Dual Enrollment “college level” classes, I first found myself being overwhelmed with the pressure to write the perfect first draft. The pressure came from knowing how much a final draft of a paper contributed to my grade. This left me sitting in front of my computer for hours at a time with thoughts of what I wanted to say racing through my head, but unable to deliver these thoughts into organized, structured sentences. I learned, through writing my persuasive essay, that instead of trying to write the paper start to finish and already in its perfect form, it is easier for me to look at the paper through its different components and focus on them individually, then work to best organize my ideas fluently.
Negative thoughts that may lead to bad speech, mindfulness, actions or concentration is what Buddhists call Right Attitude. With the Right View and Right Attitude a Buddhist may develop the wisdom to understand things clearly, to perceive the causes and effects of things, which then removes ignorance and ultimately the end of suffering. This is the finish line of the Eightfold Path and all eight ways of practice must be
Take deep breaths until you feel relaxed. Now start searching for the emotion that is making you feel bad. All the subdued emotions will be located in your body. Anger is usually found in belly button and sadness rests in the midriff area. Once you find them, do not sway yourself. Be with your emotion and hold it. You can see your emotion as a vast dark grey cloud. Repeating this process of holding your emotions can help you in reducing the size of the cloud of the sadness. This process is called transmuting emotions and it can be greatly helpful in releasing your negative
The sun was out, the wind blowing, and children playing outside - what a beautiful day. Nati and Molly, a happily married couple, are holding hands, taking a stroll through the park. Suddenly, they hear shouting coming from the other side of the park. What was the shouting about? The shouting was about the couple - who were both women - and the man that was shouting from the other side of the park wasn’t too happy with that.
Positive thinking is a mental attitude that admits into the thoughts, words and images that are conductive to growth, expansion and success of the context for which they have been used. If context is you then it is a strategy that can be used to make you feel good about yourself.
The fourth thing is to realize the things you cannot control. Learn to take a few breaths and stay as calm as possible instead of getting worked up over the things you have no control over.
