The majority of schools address issues such as violence, teen pregnancy, and drug abuse; however, suicide is not discussed until it is too late. Students face a multitude of difficult challenges as they leave school, and most teachers have no idea about their life at home. Schools need to provide certain guidelines for teachers to follow to alleviate this problem. A teacher’s role is not to just teach. It is to treat their students like they were their own children. Teachers can’t always prevent their students from self-destruction, although they can take steps to help the issue, such as creating a positive learning environment for their students, truly knowing their students, and providing exciting activities for the students to do.
For some students, school is the only way of escaping their tragic home lives and interacting in a positive atmosphere. Teachers should always have a positive attitude because when they are in a pleasant state of mind, their students will usually be in a good mood as well. They must encourage and inspire students to

become better people. Students mimic their teachers and if they notice that their teacher is unpleasant, they will usually carry on the negativity. Teachers usually are not aware of what happens outside of school; however, they must uplift students and make the school a safe haven for students. Also, teachers must take the time to get to know their students and be aware of their surroundings.
They need to show children that they truly care about them by listening and spending time with them. When children become aware that their teacher cares about them they build trust between them and their teacher. They feel a sense of connection and realize that they can talk to them about anything. It is crucial for children to know that someone cares about them and appreciates their company because they might not get that attention or love at home. Also, teachers can’t be oblivious to children being bullied or mistreated in school. If they do not take action and take control of the situation, the issue will prolong, usually until a student ends the suffering themselves. Teachers should try their best to always engage in their student’s lives because they never know how much of an impact they might have on their
students. Aside from creating a positive learning environment and understanding their students, teachers should devise exciting activities for students to do. When students are enjoying their time in class, they often forget about the hardships that they have outside of the classroom. It is up to teachers to show students that they can learn but also be entertained at the same time. Teachers incorporate games for the students to play, or the students could watch movies or sing songs. Students should enjoy their time at school because even though they are there to learn, they should also have fun. Suicide is a complicated issue because nobody knows what will trigger a person to take his or her own life. However, it is vital that the school takes proper action to alleviate this problem instead of ignoring the issue. Numerous today do not inform students about the number of suicides a day or seek a way out. The students usually try to handle the situation on their own, which is by suicide. If schools issued stricter guidelines for teachers to follow, the suicide rate could decrease.
Assisted suicide should be legalized nationwide in the United States, because every human deserves a peaceful death. Assisted suicide is when person that has been told they are terminally ill and won’t survive, they can go to a doctor and get prescribed a medication that results in death. It’s not murder, it’s giving the person a chance to say their good byes and leave this world when they are ready to go. Not making them suffer and go on when they don’t want to.
¨ If I cannot give my consent to my own death, whose body is this? Who owns my life?- Sue Rodriguez. If one cannot choose when they die and how they go out, then are we really the owner of our life and body? Physician assisted suicide is the practice of providing a competent patient with a prescription for medication for the patient to use with the primary intention of ending his or her own life. When the patient is terminally ill and is in a lot of pain they should be able to end their own life instead of waiting for it to end itself. Even though some argue that physician assisted suicide is not a humane way of dying it still stops the patient´s suffering and gives them peace of mind.
Imagine yourself laying on your deathbed, hooked up to countless machines. The doctors are constantly coming to check you while you're trying to get what little sleep you can through the agonizing pain. Even more you're suffering from the side effects of countless drugs, constipation, delirium, you can barely breathe and you've lost all your appetite. There no chance of survival and death is imminent, it's just a matter of time when. You just lay there fighting for your last seconds. Now, if you had the chance to choose how your life ended, wouldn't you choose how and when it ends? Hence, doctor assisted suicide should be a legal option for terminally ill patients. This is a humane way for them to end their lives with dignity, without shame and suffering. We don't have the freedom of speech unless we have the freedom to refuse to speak. The same goes for our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, we can't have complete freedom unless we have the freedom to deny these things. We can't claim full control over our life if we cannot choose when to end it. Thus, people should be given the right to assisted suicide in order to end their unnecessary suffering, to preserve the individual right of people to determine their own fate, and to reduce the burden on their families both, financially and emotionally.
Having the title of a physician holds a great deal of weight, and many obligations. One of doctor 's most important duties is to accommodate his or her patients to the fullest making him or her as comfortable as possible while trying to alleviate all pain in a timely fashion. In certain situations(mostly in the elderly and terminally ill) a doctor is not able to eliminate all pain forcing the patient to live out the last moments of his or her life in agony and misery. Unfortunately, from time to time an individual’s last option should he or she wish to die peacefully would be death. Although assisted suicide seems like a situation where far more problems are created rather than solutions(which is why many encourage assisted suicide to remain
“Make no mistake about people who leap from burning windows. Their terror of falling from a great height is still just as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window […] the variable here is the other terror, the fire’s flames: when the flames get close enough, falling to death becomes the slightly less terrible of two terrors. It’s not desiring the fall; it’s terror of the flames.” This was said by American author David Foster Wallace who died by suicide in September of 2008. Most people do not want to die, dying is absolutely terrifying but for some, it becomes a choice between leaping out the window and sailing down to a quick death at your own hands and getting caught in the building and waiting for the
Assisted suicide has been a controversial topic for many decades. Today’s society brings up many realistic and ethical questions such as; who owns our lives? Should ending suffering be the highest priority? Who should be allowed to make the decision to end a person’s life when they are unresponsive or incompetent of making decisions? Should suicide be an option? Every answer may vary depending on whom you ask because they are only opinions. The purpose of documents such as the bill of rights and the Constitution were created to give people rights as well as freedoms, but does it include the right to choose when one’s life ends? The legalization of assisted suicide is another right person should have so they have the freedom to make their own choice when facing death. Assisted suicide should become a legal option for those suffering.
Normal reactions to pain of loss, rejection, or disappointment and some which are more extreme reactions that can lead them in minor hopelessness, is teen suicide. When a teen commits suicide, everyone is affected. Family members, friends, teammates, neighbors, and sometimes even those who didn’t know the teen well enough might experience feelings of grief, confusion, guilt, and the sense that if only they had done something differently, the suicide could have been prevented.
Dear friends; to anyone whom it may affect, you should all know that I am dead.
The will to undergo physician-assisted suicide most often comes from a fear of disability rather than as a mechanism to end the pain associated with a disability or terminal illness. In fact, polls have never found pain to be in the top three reasons for why individuals wanted assistance in their death. For instance, Amundson & Taira (2005) reported that the top three reasons individuals wanted to undergo physician assisted suicide was due to losing autonomy (84%), having a decreased ability of being able to participate in pleasurable activities (84%), and losing control over bodily functions (47%). This demonstrates that pain is not the primary factor that comes into play when individuals consider opting for physician-assisted suicide. The plethora of reasons patients want to opt for
Many people see suicide in many different ways. Two of the most common ways that I see suicide viewed as are from either the people that have wanted to, tried to, or came close to committing suicide; the other view are from those who are strictly against suicide. The people who are against suicide say many things that are not true. They say suicide is weakness. Suicide is a person who wants attention. Suicide is when a person feels sorry for themselves. While on the other hand people who have tried, wanted to, and do commit suicide. Suicide to them is a way out. Suicide is the way out of the darkness. Suicide is a way out of the misery and pain that they feel. Suicide is the end of all pain.
Suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year olds, and the sixth leading cause for 5 to 14 year olds. Suicide accounts for twelve percent of the mortality in the adolescent and young adult group. Young males are more common than young woman suicides. These are only children who followed through with the suicide. For every successful suicide there are fifty to one hundred adolescent suicide attempts. In other words, more than five percent of all teenagers tried to commit suicide, and the number is still rising. It is scary to think that four percent of high school students have made a suicide attempt within the previous twelve months. In a small safe town like Avon, in the Avon High School where you and I practically live, you can see the faces of 22 students that have tried to commit suicide. That is enough to fill a classroom.
A young, teenage girl sits with her friends, talking, laughing, and making jokes. She seems completely normal and happy, even. What people don’t know is that this is nothing but a mask covering the loneliness that seems to run through her veins, and the unexplainable sadness that never goes away. She fears speaking of it, of admitting the uncontrollable hatred she feels for everything about herself, so much that she contemplates ending it all. The fact is, suicide is the third leading cause for death in people under the age of twenty-five. Our country needs to stop seeing this as a casual thing. Depression, anxiety, and suicide in youth are real and serious issues that we need to be more aware of in today’s society.
Teens today face a lot of pressure. Many students deal with difficult life situations that hinder them from focusing on their futures. This can lead to a loss of interest in school and school events, such as a sports, clubs, or after school programs. Teens start to prioritize other things over their education. Every year, over 1.2 million students will leave school without earning a high school diploma in the United States alone (“11”). That’s a student every 26 seconds – or 7,000 a day (“11”). The United States, which used to have the highest graduation rates of any country, now ranks 22nd out of 27 developed countries (“11”). Students may not realize that by dropping out of high school they are more likely to commit crimes, become parents at a young age, use and abuse alcohol and drugs, and live in poverty (“Drop”). Dropouts make up the majority of those
We as humans, according to Camus, seek meaning. As humans we look for answers in a meaningless universe that yields no such comfort to our questions. Camus says it is absurd to shout into this void for answers. Since there is no such meaning, you as a free agent can choose to find meaning by taking a leap of faith, placing your hopes in a god, or choose to conclude that life is meaningless which results in suicide. Those that judge life as unworthy of living commit suicide. ... show up and put aside everything else that may be going on in their life to try and help their students. This can be difficult sometimes especially if they are going through a hard time in their personal life. Though they still show up and put a smile on their face. Not all teachers do this, but the good ones do. When teachers are able to do this it is an amazing gift that even though something may be hard in their life they put it aside just so they can teacher to their students and try and make an impact in their students’ lives. Ever teacher should try and obtain this and display it in their classroom everyday. You never know whose life you may impact just by giving them a smile and showing that you care and are trying to be the best you can be. Teachers should get appreciated more for all the work that they do because they truly make a difference in society.
