We hear it on a daily basis. It is posted on the sides of the roads. We see it on the ads in between our favourite TV shows. We even hear it while we are committing the crime. Don’t speed! But it’s still not enough to make a difference. How can speeding be beneficial? Perhaps only in a very desperate emergency is it called for. But that doesn’t account for the number of incidents on our roads. It really does destroy lives. We need to make a change before it is too late. More than 1200 people die each year from speeding on our Australian roads. 4000 people are injured in speed-related incidents. 40% of these injured people weren’t even the driver behind the wheel. Speeding occurs in 33% of all fatal crashes. The careless drivers are punishing …show more content…
the people who do obey the speed limits, the safe drivers. Pedestrians and cyclists are being slaughtered on our streets. Do you know what’s worse than that? The leading cause of death for teenagers, my generation, is road accidents. What if you wake up one day to see that your best friend was killed in a road crash because the driver couldn’t stop their car in time? I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t be able to handle that news very well. Before you know it, we are going to be driving and only so many of us are going to obey the simple laws. The government has set these laws only for one reason, to protect the people. So why do we abuse it? Why speed? Why put someone else’s life at risk? Is being late more important than someone’s life? You will still end up at the same destination if that means taking a few minutes longer. I can guarantee that you would much rather keep your money than paying a lousy fine. We see the results of crashes everyday. We hear the tragic stories of lost loved ones. We see the effects daily. Yes we may feel sad for a while and feel guilty, but only so much time passes before we speed once again. There are over 15 million vehicles on our Australian roads. Imagine if every single driver was speeding. Our roads would be chaotic, dangerous, a nightmare to drive on and unimaginable for the police and paramedics. Make a stand against speeding and it will benefit every Australian citizen. There will be less casualty accidents. Our roads will be safer for pedestrians and cyclists. The truth is that almost all drivers would have sped at least once in their lives. Maybe they didn’t get caught, or maybe they didn’t even realise they were over the limit. Driving only 5km/h over the limit can make our roads double as deadly. The truth is that the faster you go, the longer it takes for your vehicle to come to a stop. 5km/h can make all the difference between colliding with another car, crushing a pedestrian, perhaps a small child, or stopping safely before ramming into a cyclist. How is it fair for the people who do obey the laws? Why do so many hooligans get away with their foolish driving? If we all act together as one, we can bring justice to our society. Our roads can be safe. Every driver who speeds and is caught should face an equal and harsher punishment. The system in place is fair. But it still not enough to prevent speeders from continually offending. By witnessing an outrageous driver, you need to speak up as the voice of the community. There is no point just watching hooligans get away with their pathetic acts. Simply noticing their number plate can be a huge help to the authority. Be a voice for the people and bring justice to our society. Why do drivers even speed in the first place? They’re in a rush, they aren’t paying attention to their driving, they just don’t think the laws apply to them, they don’t think their driving is dangerous, or they don’t think that they will get caught. Are any of these excuses justifiable for the death of other? Speeding really does destroy lives.
Yes, even where there is only one casualty, that one death can have a ripple effect. The family, the loved ones, the friends, the neighbours, the teammates, and the work colleagues are all going to be effected by that one fatality. We need to make a stand and bring our community back together, instead of tearing it to pieces. By uniting to make the difference, we can bring the people back together. We can make our roads safer for the current drivers and the future ones. As a community we can bring our death toll down dramatically. We can aspire to make our roads the safest in the world. Imagine if we took these simple steps earlier. Imagine all the lives that could have been saved and all the lives that didn’t have to suffer. How many more deaths does it take for our community to realise that speeding is dangerous? How many more people need to suffer the loss of family, friends, members of our community, our society before it is enough? Speeding doesn’t just affect the driver behind the wheel. It affects every single person on the road. It affects the bystanders, the people who don’t have a say, and the people who are doing the right thing by staying at the limit. Speeding brings death closer. So next time you speed, or are in a vehicle travelling over the limit, slow down. You could be saving someone’s
life.
“Have you ever noticed how anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and everyone going faster than you is a maniac?” George Carlin once, jokingly asked. However, this is not the case for drivers on the famous highway systems in Germany. When you drive in Germany you can be“idiot” in the government’s eyes if you go too slowly, drive in the wrong lane or impede the flow of traffic. This distinction is not unique in Germany but is applicable on their federal highway system, aptly named the Autobahn. Rules regarding how anyone driving on the autobahn state that a driver must go a certain speed, or that driver becomes a public safety hazard, much like that of speeders in America. Many foreigners only hear how the autobahn has no speed limit and that is not necessarily true. There are in fact many areas that are speed limited and strictly enforced by the polizei and speed cameras integrated into the guard rail or surroundings. German drivers receive up to two years of very expensive and intensive training before driving within the country. In my opinion, I believe there should be an Autobahn-like system in America because it teaches future generations not only maturity, but also discipline and responsibility.
With the introduction of the automobile in the early 1900s, laws have been instituted to protect drivers on the road. With these laws come lawbreakers who put their agenda in front of the well being of others. Tens of thousands of lives have been lost. billions of dollars have been spent, and pollution has grown exponentially because of this. drivers travelling at high speeds on roads (Hartman).
No one can say that they have never been in a rush to go somewhere. We all like to be on time and sometimes that results in speeding on the road. When drivers speed, they run the risk of endangering themselves and others. This public service announcement created by Northern Ireland’s DOE Road Safety department depicts the harsh reality of speeding as well as the consequences speeding causes. This ad uses fear to show the very real and horrifying consequences of speeding. The DOE employs a strong use of rhetoric in this PSA with an emphasis on Pathos. Using children as the victims in the video is a solid choice as it draws in a very large demographic. Whether you have a kid or not, it is extremely gruesome to see a child die. Let alone a whole classroom full.
Repetition is often used in the safe driving campaign in order to successfully convey their message and also to ensure, that the viewer retains their main idea. Fear is also often used in an effort reach the viewer on an emotional level. Presently the Government and the transport department have worked in collaboration with one another to bring forth a message to the public about road safety. And since road fatalities have affected Australia so much that the advice has become propaganda in every sense of the term ? There is one idea propagated repeatedly in an emotional manner with appropriate cartoons and even name-calling. But has the massive propaganda campaign set out by the Government and the transport department been effective in ensuring the safety of motorist

It's one of the fastest ways to ruin your day. A flashing light fills the rear view mirror… an icy feeling pierces your chest and that mixture of guilt, frustration and anger curdles as you wonder how much of your hard earned money is being dragged away for something as little as what? A few kilometers over the speed limit? My Name’s Trent Mammarella and I would like to persuade you as to why speed cameras in Australia need to be seriously reviewed. There is quite a significant amount of speculation surrounding speed in Australia. The government will inform you that speed is Australia’s deadliest killer and you are risking life and limb for something as little as what? A few kilometers over the set limit. You’ve most likely heard it all before: the force is out to get you; they need to reach their quotas
Law enforcement doesn’t enforce texting and driving laws hard enough. According to Ashley Halsey, “It's been almost 150 years since the first speeding law took effect, yet people speed all the time, and even strict enforcement has limited impact.” Since so many people speed nowadays they either need stricter rules/laws to prevent it or they need more cops looking out for people speeding. Also according to Ashley Halsey, “Despite the current epidemic of
Not any of above reasons is much important in effect to decrease entirely changing lives in the period of minutes. Over speeding is involving a number of risks for the reason that it reduces the driver’s capacity to manage steering in a safe manner in difficult road or sudden turns on the road. Over speeding increases the distance required to apply brakes, and as a result, a car travels more distance at the same time as a driver comes to a risky situation, increasing the consequences of the accidents whenever unfortunately it occurs.
Driving slow will cause other people to slow down. If someone is driving the speed limit and a slow driver is in front this can cause a crash. If a crash occurred, disorganization will happen and traffic will occur. If someone is on his/her way to work and this happens on the road, they will be late and have to explain to their bosses why. The organization is key to not having traffic. With everyone driving the speed limit and going from point A to point B with no problems, there wouldn’t be such a mess. But when there are five types of slow drivers, the tourist, newly licensed, seniors, distracted, and the road rage there will be
According to Lundy, “The study, “Children”, found a correlation between traffic fatalities and children being struck by vehicles in states with forbearing red-light camera regulations.” Even though opponents may argue that many school-zones speeding tickets are issued when the infraction did not put any children at risk as Lundy stated red-lights save children’s lives. Even if an infraction did not put a child’s life endanger, drivers should obey the rules of the road, and own up to their carelines. Bottom line, break a law you deserve to pay the consequence (i.e., costly ticket). Lundy continues, “When motorists are aware of red-light cameras, lives are saved because drivers travel slower and do not run red-lights.” Definitely, when most motorist know that they are being closely monitored, then a safer traveling environment is birthed. Moreover, fewer accidents occur through red-light camera awareness — drivers are more cautious while driving, so less accidents occur, and lives are spared as
When i was reading this article i was super surprised that 42% of deaths on Utah highways were caused by speeding to fast. My opinion on driving too fast is that it doesn't matter how fast you are trying to get somewhere it would be better if you were late than if you never made it at all because of a crash. I think that it would be a lot harder to live with knowing that you killed someone because of distracted driving or speeding than knowing you were late to a party. In 2006, 249 people were killed in Utah because of distracted drivers. Also, 9.3% of all crashed In utah involve a distracted driver. Distracted driving is a huge problem that should not be a problem. There is technology that will talk to you and is hand free and will let you
Our neighborhoods need control of speed, too. Accidents not only happen on the highway, but also on residential streets, with the speed limits being 25 mph. Motorists are exceeding these limits as I speak. They would be unable to stop quickly enough for pedestrians, possibly swerving out of control and hitting a house or another car. My street has been monitored, by the city, due to this excessive speeding. The city of St. Clair Shores is trying to make the motorists aware of their speeding by posting a digital sign, which posts their current speed. Without a legal speed limit in residential areas, people would drive in excess of 25 mph all the time. We need this wild speeding controlled soon before something bad happens.
Speed not only kills it also costs money and other problems. Cars traveling at higher speeds increase the amount of fuel usage and therefore this causes more pollution in the environment. Not only that since it uses more fuel and takes up fuel faster one has to get gas more often and this will cause the driver to spend more money. Driving fast will increase the wear and tear of your car and the predicted reliability could drop and you might have to replace the automobile faster than expected because the vehicle wont lasts you as long as it was suppose. When you speed you have chances of getting speeding tickets that are very high in cost and you have to pay for them. Speeding tickets also raise your insurance rate; just two speeding tickets can increase your insurance premiums by fifty percent.
I am for the Limitation of Speed Limits for the following reasons. Driving at a high speed can cause death and serious injuries many people have died and suffered over serious injuries for high speeding limitation. All over the world there are many accidents either for not paying attention to the rode or driving very fast. There is many people driving over the posted speed limit. They don’t think their driving is dangerous.
“The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we all believe that we are above-average drivers” -Dave Barry, comedian. The number of accidents over the last ten years have drastically increased, drivers are paying less attention to the road itself. Many individuals behind the wheel of a car believe that their driving does not affect the road conditions, however it always will. The driving habits of today are catastrophic due to the reasoning that the driving will affect other lives through reckless or distracted driving, and disobeying traffic laws.
