We hear it on a daily basis. It is posted on the sides of the roads. We see it on the ads in between our favourite TV shows. We even hear it while we are committing the crime. Don’t speed! But it’s still not enough to make a difference. How can speeding be beneficial? Perhaps only in a very desperate emergency is it called for. But that doesn’t account for the number of incidents on our roads. It really does destroy lives. We need to make a change before it is too late. More than 1200 people die each year from speeding on our Australian roads. 4000 people are injured in speed-related incidents. 40% of these injured people weren’t even the driver behind the wheel. Speeding occurs in 33% of all fatal crashes. The careless drivers are punishing …show more content…
Yes, even where there is only one casualty, that one death can have a ripple effect. The family, the loved ones, the friends, the neighbours, the teammates, and the work colleagues are all going to be effected by that one fatality. We need to make a stand and bring our community back together, instead of tearing it to pieces. By uniting to make the difference, we can bring the people back together. We can make our roads safer for the current drivers and the future ones. As a community we can bring our death toll down dramatically. We can aspire to make our roads the safest in the world. Imagine if we took these simple steps earlier. Imagine all the lives that could have been saved and all the lives that didn’t have to suffer. How many more deaths does it take for our community to realise that speeding is dangerous? How many more people need to suffer the loss of family, friends, members of our community, our society before it is enough? Speeding doesn’t just affect the driver behind the wheel. It affects every single person on the road. It affects the bystanders, the people who don’t have a say, and the people who are doing the right thing by staying at the limit. Speeding brings death closer. So next time you speed, or are in a vehicle travelling over the limit, slow down. You could be saving someone’s

Each year numerous lives are lost due to careless and irrational driving. The disregard for safe driving has been a predicament to Queensland for years. For many years? police have relied heavily on speed cameras, breathe testing and heavy fines as a deterrent against unlawful drivers. Over the years fatality rates have increased, so Queensland Transport has composed a series of safe driving campaigns. On many occasions the transport department informs and advises the public about the importance of responsible driving. They propagate safe driving through the various channels of the media. Their safe driving campaign is now using effective propaganda aimed directly at speeding; drink driving and tired and reckless driving
No one can say that they have never been in a rush to go somewhere. We all like to be on time and sometimes that results in speeding on the road. When drivers speed, they run the risk of endangering themselves and others. This public service announcement created by Northern Ireland’s DOE Road Safety department depicts the harsh reality of speeding as well as the consequences speeding causes. This ad uses fear to show the very real and horrifying consequences of speeding. The DOE employs a strong use of rhetoric in this PSA with an emphasis on Pathos. Using children as the victims in the video is a solid choice as it draws in a very large demographic. Whether you have a kid or not, it is extremely gruesome to see a child die. Let alone a whole classroom full.
It's one of the fastest ways to ruin your day. A flashing light fills the rear view mirror… an icy feeling pierces your chest and that mixture of guilt, frustration and anger curdles as you wonder how much of your hard earned money is being dragged away for something as little as what? A few kilometers over the speed limit? My Name’s Trent Mammarella and I would like to persuade you as to why speed cameras in Australia need to be seriously reviewed. There is quite a significant amount of speculation surrounding speed in Australia. The government will inform you that speed is Australia’s deadliest killer and you are risking life and limb for something as little as what? A few kilometers over the set limit. You’ve most likely heard it all before: the force is out to get you; they need to reach their quotas
As cars move quickly down the streets, motorists rarely think that they may receive a ticket for speeding. Recently a new law has been enacted that charges an additional fine for speeding tickets. I think this law will reduce the number of accidents
Speed limits have been around since the 1600s. In New York they had got a law issued in 1652 that stated any wagons, carts, and sleighs can't be rode or even be driven at a gallop. Any person that violate faced a penalty that started at 150$ less than today’s standard consequence of breaking the law. By the 1970s,The prices of fuel started to rise to where it cause many states to want to get a speed limit so they wouldn't have to waste a lot of money and get laws to save money and resources in the early 1970’s. In result, President Richard Nixon agreed to make a national national speed limit of 55 mph for all the states. After the law had passed it went into effect. Then America’s traffic death rate dropped from 4.28 per million miles traveled in 1972 to 2.73 in 1983.This shows that speeding leads to death.
Law enforcement doesn’t enforce texting and driving laws hard enough. According to Ashley Halsey, “It's been almost 150 years since the first speeding law took effect, yet people speed all the time, and even strict enforcement has limited impact.” Since so many people speed nowadays they either need stricter rules/laws to prevent it or they need more cops looking out for people speeding. Also according to Ashley Halsey, “Despite the current epidemic of
“Have you ever noticed how anyone going slower than you is an idiot, and everyone going faster than you is a maniac?” George Carlin once, jokingly asked. However, this is not the case for drivers on the famous highway systems in Germany. When you drive in Germany you can be“idiot” in the government’s eyes if you go too slowly, drive in the wrong lane or impede the flow of traffic. This distinction is not unique in Germany but is applicable on their federal highway system, aptly named the Autobahn. Rules regarding how anyone driving on the autobahn state that a driver must go a certain speed, or that driver becomes a public safety hazard, much like that of speeders in America. Many foreigners only hear how the autobahn has no speed limit and that is not necessarily true. There are in fact many areas that are speed limited and strictly enforced by the polizei and speed cameras integrated into the guard rail or surroundings. German drivers receive up to two years of very expensive and intensive training before driving within the country. In my opinion, I believe there should be an Autobahn-like system in America because it teaches future generations not only maturity, but also discipline and responsibility.
The one type of driver that really irritates me during my morning commute to work in downtown Phoenix, is the driver who is in the “fast lane” or left lane without keeping pace with the preceding car in the same lane, and also fails to yield to faster moving traffic. These drivers are creating safety issues for those around them in an already stressful situation. In contrast, some people may believe that these drivers are justified in their failure to yield to faster drivers because they are exceeding the speed limit. Nevertheless, the highway is designed to operate safe and efficient when slower drivers stay to right and remember that the left lane is a passing lane, and therefore should vacated it as soon as practicable for everyone’s benefit.
When i was reading this article i was super surprised that 42% of deaths on Utah highways were caused by speeding to fast. My opinion on driving too fast is that it doesn't matter how fast you are trying to get somewhere it would be better if you were late than if you never made it at all because of a crash. I think that it would be a lot harder to live with knowing that you killed someone because of distracted driving or speeding than knowing you were late to a party. In 2006, 249 people were killed in Utah because of distracted drivers. Also, 9.3% of all crashed In utah involve a distracted driver. Distracted driving is a huge problem that should not be a problem. There is technology that will talk to you and is hand free and will let you
Driving slow will cause other people to slow down. If someone is driving the speed limit and a slow driver is in front this can cause a crash. If a crash occurred, disorganization will happen and traffic will occur. If someone is on his/her way to work and this happens on the road, they will be late and have to explain to their bosses why. The organization is key to not having traffic. With everyone driving the speed limit and going from point A to point B with no problems, there wouldn’t be such a mess. But when there are five types of slow drivers, the tourist, newly licensed, seniors, distracted, and the road rage there will be
According to Lundy, “The study, “Children”, found a correlation between traffic fatalities and children being struck by vehicles in states with forbearing red-light camera regulations.” Even though opponents may argue that many school-zones speeding tickets are issued when the infraction did not put any children at risk as Lundy stated red-lights save children’s lives. Even if an infraction did not put a child’s life endanger, drivers should obey the rules of the road, and own up to their carelines. Bottom line, break a law you deserve to pay the consequence (i.e., costly ticket). Lundy continues, “When motorists are aware of red-light cameras, lives are saved because drivers travel slower and do not run red-lights.” Definitely, when most motorist know that they are being closely monitored, then a safer traveling environment is birthed. Moreover, fewer accidents occur through red-light camera awareness — drivers are more cautious while driving, so less accidents occur, and lives are spared as
I am for the Limitation of Speed Limits for the following reasons. Driving at a high speed can cause death and serious injuries many people have died and suffered over serious injuries for high speeding limitation. All over the world there are many accidents either for not paying attention to the rode or driving very fast. There is many people driving over the posted speed limit. They don’t think their driving is dangerous.
Not any of above reasons is much important in effect to decrease entirely changing lives in the period of minutes. Over speeding is involving a number of risks for the reason that it reduces the driver’s capacity to manage steering in a safe manner in difficult road or sudden turns on the road. Over speeding increases the distance required to apply brakes, and as a result, a car travels more distance at the same time as a driver comes to a risky situation, increasing the consequences of the accidents whenever unfortunately it occurs.
Speed not only kills it also costs money and other problems. Cars traveling at higher speeds increase the amount of fuel usage and therefore this causes more pollution in the environment. Not only that since it uses more fuel and takes up fuel faster one has to get gas more often and this will cause the driver to spend more money. Driving fast will increase the wear and tear of your car and the predicted reliability could drop and you might have to replace the automobile faster than expected because the vehicle wont lasts you as long as it was suppose. When you speed you have chances of getting speeding tickets that are very high in cost and you have to pay for them. Speeding tickets also raise your insurance rate; just two speeding tickets can increase your insurance premiums by fifty percent.
