In the last ten years over 7,000 rhinos have been poached, constantly putting the species in danger. While people are innocently hunting animals, some species are being put into danger. For example, the rhinos, if poachers do not stop hunting them they will soon all become extinct. Poaching will not stop; therefore, zoos become a safe haven for animals. They are able to see animals that normally are too far away. Zoos are also there for a lot of other reasons. One being the fact that without them, many animals would no longer be able to properly breed and produce. Zoos will help these animals reproduce and impact the population. Zoos are also trying to be more humane by making their home more natural by adding more nature and less contrasting colors. As well as giving up some animals like elephants due to the fact that there is no way to give them a natural home. These animals are being cared for and pampered throughout their life, as well as educate most visitors that come. Zoos are able to keep animals safe and make sure that they can have a nice long life while people constantly care and try to make their life better, although …show more content…
people may see them as inhumane, since zoos do everything possible to keep it humane. In reality zoos were originally made for money, but have turned into a safe haven for many animals.
Most families are unable to travel across the world to a safari, however, zoos give them an opportunity to see them. “For example, zoos are an amazing way to learn about wild and exotic animals without having to travel far.” They are able to see animals that normally are to far away. Zoos are also there for a lot of other reasons. One being the fact that without them, many animals would no longer be able to properly breed and produce. Zoos will help these animals reproduce and impact the population. Zoos are also trying to be more humane by making their home more natural by adding more nature and less contrasting colors. As well as giving up some animals like elephants due to the fact that there is no way to give them a natural
home. Zoos will try to make everyone happy whether they were getting more animals or for the animals sake making everything they can as natural as possible. In the zoos case they have been doing research on how to make it more realistic. “Emerging from her shaded hideout one morning, Satka spots her prey swinging above the ground. The prey swings up and escapes.” This is the zoo showing that they keep the way that the animals get their food in a natural way. This was the zoo doing research and realising that animals would much rather have to earn their food and that way the animals or in this case the lemurs do not feel like they are in captivity. As well as educating everyone that comes through the zoos to know what they are doing. They are able to give valuable information to anyone that ask about the animals in the exhibits. “They educate not only children, but also teenagers and adults and researchers about the multitudes of species and their particular needs compared to others.” This is not only for people around zoos but researchers are able to observe in a new way where they can easily see some endangered animals and be able to help them. The zoos will be trying to end all exhibits that are inhumane like some elephants.”Many zoos will end their elephant exhibits when their current ones pass away.” They are seeing that now people care a lot more about these animals and seeing the elephant exhibits were not able to be designed in a normal way. Zoos have many other positive purposes like saving endangered species by keeping them safe from poaching and other dangers. The biggest benefit to having zoos are having the endangered animals kept safe from poaching and going extinct. This comes to zoos will get them out of wildlife areas where they can be poached rather easily for either ivory or other black market needs.”A good zoo will play a critical role in fighting extinction. One way they do this is through breeding and recovery programs of the endangered species.” In other places of the world people will help species like in China. ”Throughout the years the giant panda population in China has risen to 2,239, and zoos want to be able to help that.” They have taken action and even let some pandas across the country even though they have rules against pandas leaving China. More about them keeping animals safe are that they can act as a much better life. ”Through my research, I have found zoological parks can act as safe havens for many animals.” The main point against zoos are that they are unethical to keep many animals in cages when they should be free. Some people have showed that animals are proven to live much longer in the zoos and will live a good life as they get good food and their surroundings have been made larger and more natural. Zoos have also realized that many animals are meant to outside and have either let them out into the wild or a sanctuary depending on if they are endangered. ”In March 2016, SeaWorld announced it would end all breeding of its 19 orcas and stop showing them.” They were able to realize that orcas shouldn’t be stuck and are allowing them out. They have more evidence of them trying to get out which would shows that they are more humane. ”But I have always been troubled by whales, great apes and other animals trapped like guppies.” This is showing that people have noticed animals stuck in these places and have allowed most of the species to be released as they normally would be. Zoos have of recently have been doing everything they can to better the life of animals and keep animal off the endangered list, as well as show the people that zoos do everything they can. They were able to witness some animals and do research to help them have better lives and make sure that they are always having the most natural life they can have. Then they are able to save endangered species by taking care of them and allowing them to reproduce so that the population can increase. Then the people may say that it is not the animals normal environment.
Have you ever seen an animal sitting in a cage all alone with nothing to do. Well, zoos are trying to change that fact. They will allow the animals to live in an environment that is like their home. Many people don't realize this, but zoo are keeping and breeding these animals because they would not survive in the wild alone. In the three passages, ¨The Stripes Will Survive,¨ ¨The Zood Go Wild from No More Dodos,¨ ¨Our Beautiful Macaws and Why They Need Enrichment.¨ All of these articles present one claim, that is that the role of zoos is no longer to keep animal, but to protect them.
Zoos all over the world are keeping animals in environments that mimic their natural habitat. In the article “Should we have zoos?” by Shayna Orens, Zoos around the world are to help adults, animals, and kids. Zoos not only keep animals, but they also rescue animals. This means zoos are beneficial because Zoos take care and rescue animals for educational purposes Zoos also have many different programs like education for kids.
Zoos have been with us throughout our history, and can provide a good barometer of public beliefs and values at any given time. Therefore it seems necessary to explore whether in today’s society contemporary zoos are a means of educating and conserving or still seek to control and exhibit animal others for human benefit. In order to make this assessment there are a number of contributing factors. Firstly it is important to establish context by considering the history of zoos and looking at the changes from the early menageries to contemporary zoos who strive to be institutions of refuge for animals facing twenty-first century global challenges. This links into how the physical space of zoos has changed over time and whether these advancements have made any crucial difference to the welfare of animals. Following this conservation, education and scientific research will be explored in detail in order to assess whether they provide good enough motives for keeping animals in captivity. I will seek to argue that although attempts have been made to point zoos in the direction of conservation and education, in my opinion the concepts of dominance and human superiority are still at the core of modern zoos.
Thousands of zoos worldwide are visited by citizens yearly to admire and satisfy their curiosity of the beautiful wild animals that mother nature has to offer. Zoos have been around for hundreds of years and have become a known tradition for numerous school field trips and family outings. The ongoing debate between animal rights activists and zoo officials remains, should wild animals be taken from their natural habitats to live in city zoos for education and entertainment purposes?
...provide a habitat for animals that had there’s destroyed. Furthermore they need to improve their captive breeding programs and abandon the failed programs. Zoos need to address the concern that animals are not living up to there actual life span and either release them into there natural habitat or find an alternative. Animal stress is also of big concern because it is causing physiological harm.
For hundreds of years, eager visitors have journeyed to see animals from various parts of the Earth. Zoological institutions have been provided a place where both wild animals and humans can convene in a controlled manor. A zoo’s purpose is to conserve wild animals’ lives, educate visitors, and provide a site where wild life research can readily take place (Demartoto). Many hold a positive view on zoos. Some believe that zoological institutions provide a safe environment for animals and provide the animals with the best care. However, many find zoos to be guilty of stealing animals’ freedom and dignity. Animal welfare has become a major issue within zoological institutions. The question of whether or not zoos are actually
The park had animals such as deer, and grizzly bear and 120 other animals. Now, Henry Doorly Zoo is a home to over 17,000 animals, and different 962 species. However, with all of these different animals in the zoo, it upsets the animals’ native ecology. Even under the best circumstances at the best zoos, a zoo cannot start to replicate the wild animals’ habitat. Where a wild animal is free to roam and explore the world, one in a zoo is confined to a small area. Also, Zoos claim to want to protect species from extinction, but usually the zoos just want animals because they are exotic or popular. These exotic animals are put into an unnatural environment and upsets their native ecology. A zoo wants these exotic animals primarily for the purpose of promoting tourism and generating money. Zoos claim to want to protect species from extinction, which sounds good on the surface, but in reality only want to draw crowd and publicity. Also zoos claim that they are helping repopulate an endangered or exotic species, but the animals in the zoo are never going to return to the wild. Animals in the wild have to survive on a daily basis. They need to hunt, or gather food, and avoid predators. Animals in the zoos never experience any of this and would not survive in the
Who Am I as a Spiritual Person The culture teaches that power is more important than weakness, to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and live life to it’s fullest and be in control of your own destiny. While, the movement inside with Jesus, it is simple and quiet. Richard Rohr in “Everything Belongs” discusses the wounds to our egos as welcoming them, so that we are able to respond freely in a new way. The way the Spirit wounds is gentle and precise, a piercing love that is tenderly caresses and opens up toward God through Christ in us, the Holy Spirit.
Zoos bring human kind closer to wild life. Though, sometimes that means taking the animal out of its natural habitat. Some animals have lost most of their habitat and are on the verge of extinction. In this way, the zoo helps the animals rather than using them as a form of human entertainment. Zoos also allow humans to study different kinds of animals more closely. Some zoos on the other hand manipulate the animals to acquire as much revenue as possible rather than being concerned with the welfare of each animal.
I remember a year ago, a campaign was made to boycott circuses, zoos and aquariums. I was against the campaign at first because zoos, aquariums and circuses are assumed to be entertaining. I was asked by my friends not to go into debates without knowing the truth and search the subject properly. After my research was done; I became the number one supporter in the middle east of animal rights, and I believe circuses, zoos and aquariums captivate and violate animal rights and should be shut down.
Have you ever seen a beautiful tiger pace back and forth in its cage? It’s because there not supposed to be caged up it's not healthy for them mentally and physically. In the past year’s many animals have died from being in zoos. You may think the animals are being taken care of in the zoos but that’s not always the case. In my research, you will discover the horrifying facts about how they treat the zoo animals from around the world.
Zoos are a great thing. First of all, the animals aren’t just taken from their homes forever, most of the animals were injured or too sick to continue living in the wild and an effort was made to help the animal. Most of the time, animals taken from the wild are taken care of and once they get better, released back into the wild. So why are zoos a bad thing? Many believe that animals in zoos are treated unfairly, but we need zoos because they contribute to the support of endangered animals, provide animals with the protection and care that they need, and provide people with a reason to help protect animals.
Zoos are all over the world, however, when looked at closely their corrupted system is very cruel. Zoos have endangered countless animals when capturing, keeping the animals in a small cage and never letting them leave that specific area and last but not least abusing them. Governments should outright ban these dreadful prisons and help animals be free. Before talking about zoos and what they do let's look at the very first step: capturing. `Zoos use many methods of capturing although the main method is through tranquilizers.
Ramey1 Whitney Ramey Dr. Bland English 111 20 October 2015 Freedom to Roam A zoo is a fancy name for saying animals held captive for money and entertainment. People think that zoos are society's way of “helping” endangered species. Corporations that run zoos say that by having them live in captivity, they are preserving their life span as well as the duration of their species, but most animals in these zoos are not endangered at all and therefore they are not helping them in any way. If they were really wanting to help the animals they would fix the cause of the endangerment rather than torturing them inside confinement.
Close your eyes and picture yourself as a large polar bear in a scorching hot enclosed cage with little children banging on the glass and then stalking everywhere and just wish for privacy for just 1 second. You pace back and forth worried about your family and your cubs that were left in the wild without their parents and wonder if you'll ever be happy again and ever reunite with your loving family ever again. Although zoos educate children and adult about the endangered animals and all the species they're not helping at all because it shortens their lifetime so a number of animals that are in the world right now will probably stay the same. One animal passes away and another is born. Zoo’s sound very professional but the reality is that they don’t know anything about them. They deserve freedom they also have rights. Now I will make you never go to the treacherous zoo ever again!
