Microsoft is a company that sells many things. Selling things along the lines of computers and computer software. One of their biggest selling items back in the 2000’s was the Xbox 360. As of June 2014, Microsoft sold more than 84 million Xbox 360’s. In 2014 they released an ad with Aaron Paul, an actor, to help sell their newest addition to the Xbox family, the Xbox One. This ad was aired on T.V and it is now on YouTube as well. In the ad, Aaron Paul shows off the new features and plays a game on it for a bit and then gets a phone call which makes him have to stop playing. Microsoft then promotes the Xbox One and shows the cost of the Xbox One and the commercial ends. The ad, overall, tries to persuade the viewers into buying an Xbox One …show more content…
Aaron Paul then says, “After the role of a lifetime, I’ve been busy.” Now if we pause the ad on this shot of him sitting on the couch, we see that there is a lot of packets sitting next to him in on the couch and the rest of the house that we can see is also kind of messy. This shows us that Aaron Paul has been so busy that he has not had time to clean up his house he is that busy. Aaron Paul then says, “Which is why I look forward to my downtime. Xbox on.” What we gather form this is that Aaron Paul, instead of cleaning his house or doing anything else on his downtime, he would rather sit on his couch and play Xbox. For most people, this would be a normal thing to do after work is to just hang out and play video games or watch T.V. But, for a man like Aaron Paul who is now very wealthy, instead of going on a luxurious trip, hanging out with family, or going out and spending all this money he had earned, he wants to sit around and play the Xbox One. This shows us that this new gaming console must be amazing and it is better to play the Xbox One than to do anything else and even famous actors are playing it on their …show more content…
It shows the design and all the apps that are available to get the viewers to buy into its look. After looking at that for a few seconds, Aaron Paul says, “Xbox go to Titanfall.” Aaron Paul is showing off that the Xbox One can do things with just being told and the Xbox goes to the game Titanfall. While Aaron Paul is playing this he is showing the intensity of the game and there is music in the background with an upbeat tempo to really get the audience pumped up into the release of the Xbox One. As he is playing the game Aaron Paul then says, “Xbox snap T.V.” This pulls up a live game of soccer happening and show us that the Xbox One can do more than just one thing at a time which shows that even if you aren’t a gamer, which would be the primary audience for the Xbox One, you can also get this for other uses or you can play games and do something else at the same time which is appealing to the secondary audience who would be people who could get this instead of Apple T.V, or a Roku box seeing that it has all the capabilities and more than an Apple T.V and a Roku box. With Aaron Paul saying things to the Xbox One also shows that the microphone on the Xbox Kinect is also way better than the first Kinect they made because everything he is saying is being picked up the first time even with the game audio in the background and him being a good distance from the Xbox
This is an example of pathos, the commercial is trying to leave an impact in the audience by using emotions. The commercial then shows a dancer dancing in sync to the music using interesting dance moves that are quite marvelous. By watching him dance there will be different responses depending on the person, some will feel awed and curious while others may feel envy by the talent the dancer demonstrates. The music increases its intensity and the beat makes the audience feel excited. The commercial then states phrases that come off as being quite mysterious, “Machines don’t have emotions, but the rare few can inspire them” (Lexus 00:00:26). The phrase gains curiosity and enthralls people to continue watching. By using this strategy the commercial is effective in having different emotional reactions and catching a wide variety of people’s
Have you ever seen a really strong guy uses a Band-Aid to care for a small wound? Maybe yes. What about a superhero? Maybe not. Band-Aid ad uses several techniques to sell a product that protects wounds. In the ad, a huge green muscular hand which belongs to the most powerful superhero, Hulk, is used to get people’s attention and to sell the product. We can see a Band-Aid is sticking to his index finger. This hand is so distinct that it makes viewers link the bandage to the Band-Aid box located in the lower right corner of the picture. The only words in this ad are “Flexible Fabric” on the product box. Using Hulk to sell the product shows viewers how flexible the product is. It can also create a sense of humor. The Band-Aid ad expresses that, if the most powerful superhero Hulk needs a bandage sometimes, then everyone needs a bandage sometimes. This message is presented through the techniques of visual arrangement, celebrity endorsement, and humor.
Imagine a game in which you can immerse yourself within the storyline, while gaining a variety of rewards and memorable moments. That is essentially the essence of the video game Destiny. Bungie, the developers of the game, created the trailer for Destiny to reel in buyers from various consoles by applying two forms of rhetoric persuasion—ethos and pathos—and dispersing the advertisements across multiple platforms. The recent rise in social networking provides a foundation to release this content and target certain demographics. Bungie takes advantage of this to promote their new product to audiences of console owners. Another way in which they can better relate to their audience is by noting that the publisher and developer are creators of highly recognized games. This is a form of ethos as they position themselves to be credible developers: A very crucial aspect when placing a new product on the shelves. Along with ethos, pathos is displayed throughout the ad. In this trailer, the music,
In the commercial, the marketing team chose to write this with appeal to Pathos. Michael Jordan is narrating the video stating

The Xbox One serves as a complete entertainment hub for your living room. Although it can be described as a big bulky black box which takes up all the room on your entertainment shelves, it is truly the only device you need. The Xbox One even lets you plug your cable box into it, and use voice commands to let you perform tasks such as changing channels according to Peter Rubin from Wired Magazine’s website Wired.com. Also the system has multitasking capabilities, therefore while you are waiting for your game to download or update, you can simply command your Xbox One to switch to TV mode while you wait.
Children are the easiest audience to target and it should be illegal to aim advertisements at them. Did you know that 26% of advertisements aimed at children are for breakfast cereals? Cereal is one of the most common breakfast foods that children eat; Trix cereal is one example of many sugary cereals that children consume every single day. The advertisements use different marketing techniques to target children to purchase the cereal. They use characters, celebrity endorsements, online games and quotes to make it seem exclusive. However there is a lot of controversy surrounding wether or not video games are good for you, many people are under the impression that video games turn kids and adults alike into mindless zombies hellbent on violence but in this essay I aim to convince you that not only is this untrue but that video games are actually beneficial. Sundays were always the best day as a kid. No matter the time, the sun always looked as if it was evening, and ready to give a blanket of warm radiance. In my room, I had a small twelve inch television I would play video games on. My favorite video game to play was Munches Odyssey; however, it was my sisters, so I had to play when she was gone. She didn’t like my player her videos, but she was always skiing on Sundays meaning I went for the gold! I spent hours sitting in front of that television playing video games; however, some say this is was a problem.
“I 'm very careful about how I portray violence in my films. I do believe that violence, especially violent video games, is not a good thing for young kids” (Lee, quote hook). This quote taken by Stan Lee expresses the exact predicament video game designers are facing, about how violent video games truly are violent and effect young adults. Although video games have ratings on them just like how movies and T.V. shows do, which can protect or keep unnecessary violence away from teenagers and children. Meanwhile electronically controlled devices can still produce violence in children because of the careless portray of cruel and vicious scene’s game designers produce in their games, such games like GTA. Brutal and savage video games should
Every fall high school seniors around the globe are in a state of panic. Of course you are no stranger to this process, you have dealt with this stress firsthand. What process is being described you may ask? The process of applying to college. Each year seniors scramble to submit applications, transcripts, and letters of recommendations to the schools of their choice. These documents are essential for nearly all students who want to advance to an institution of higher learning, but for many the paper trail does not end there. Seniors interested in a career in art, well specifically in visual art, need one more thing to obtain that sparkling acceptance letter. That missing link is a portfolio.
