Children are the easiest audience to target and it should be illegal to aim advertisements at them. Did you know that 26% of advertisements aimed at children are for breakfast cereals? Cereal is one of the most common breakfast foods that children eat; Trix cereal is one example of many sugary cereals that children consume every single day. The advertisements use different marketing techniques to target children to purchase the cereal. They use characters, celebrity endorsements, online games and quotes to make it seem exclusive. A sugary cereal such as this one is one small portion of a large problem – childhood obesity.
Trix cereal utilizes a cartoon rabbit as their spokesperson and mascot; children often are familiar with cartoons, like Bugs Bunny, and will easily identify the Trix Rabbit as something they already know and enjoy.

Advertisers use the rabbit on the commercials, on the front of the box of cereal and for online games. The rabbit stealing the box of Trix but never getting to eat the cereal is supposed to be humorous to children and entertain them. The rabbit is what children identify the cereal with and is therefore a marketing technique. General Mills can also place the face of another celebrity on the box of the cereal, using that to also lure the child into wanting the product. If the child sees that their favorite celebrity eats the cereal they will want to eat it even more now. In the commercial when the rabbit tries to steal the cereal the children yell “silly rabbit, Trix are for kids!” Having a quote such as the one they use makes the children that are consuming the cereal feel higher up because it’s something exclusive, made only for children. Another part of using a quote is that every time the child hears that quote they know exactly what is being talked about. One marketing technique used is a “cool” factor. The “Cool” rules include child empowerment and the advertisements for this cereal do just that. Making the cereal exclusive creates the child empowerment effect. “One out of three children are overweight or obese, which is triple the rate it was at 30 years ago.” (Y.
Arnas page 139).” Children are like sponges…they soak in information from the stimuli surrounding them. Between birth and 3 years of age, the human brain increases to 80% of its adult size. This is such a crucial point in development for children and therefore, it’s so important to foster their learning in this age period.” (Pollini, A.) Children are such an easy audience to target because they retain so much and want everything. Taken from the nutrition facts on the box, just one cup of Trix cereal contains 13 grams of sugar and most children consume more than one cup of cereal per serving. Statistics show that children eat cereal 3.67 times a week and all of the sugar adds up! Obesity is such a huge problem in the United States in this day and age. Children need to start eating healthier, and that starts with their first meal of the day, breakfast. If all of these sugary cereals didn’t have commercials that targeted children then they would eat
healthier. Children are one of the easiest audiences to target, especially with sugary cereals. There are tons of marketing techniques that lure kids into wanting these products; Child empowerment, characters and online games are just a few examples of the techniques that are used. It should be illegal to target such a young audience that hasn’t even had much time to develop yet. Children want most things that they see, especially if it is on television. When Trix cereal is marketed to children they want it. This cereal is full of sugar and can lead to childhood obesity if moderation and exercise aren’t part of the child’s lifestyle. From cartoon and sports to having the toys in meals in a huge display and lowered. There are even advertisements that trick adults. They are convincing, but it can all be stopped with just simple reminders that it’s not real or it’s not good to have this in your body. These reminders can help America become less obese and more health conscious and can even affect the way children think as they grow up surrounded by them. The United States is slowly increasing its awareness of the condition that it is in by companies improving foods and people paying more attention to the nutrition’s in foods. Also many food companies have died down on television advertising for kids, but it is still found in other expressed ways. While it is okay to advertise the question of is it okay to advertise to children is still not answered. It all depends on the consumers what is right and wrong and how to approach each product. Obesity from these products can be cured by hard exercise, but this is not recommended for children. It is more efficient for children to just eat healthy as they are still growing each day. So the next time an ad pops up on the screen and that little girl or boy is focused on it try to explain to them by reading the ingredients or the nutrition label why they should not eat it often. With small steps like these children
The cereal makers were really being questioned and criticized about what was actually being put in the cereals that they advertised. It also mentioned how that a third of the brands of cereals produced had sugar levels ranging up to an alarming 50 percent, which meant tha...
Another thing that consumers need to pay attention to is the high content of sugar in these cereals. Going through the labels of the boxes of the cereal is crucial to our health. Consumers need to follow what’s on the label, especially the serving sizes, because it is the right thing to do for health reasons. Eating more than the required amount can lead to bad things like diabetes and other health concerns that only we can control.
There’s a high rate of homelessness among the children who was been in the foster care but age out. Many children are going to the foster care because of many tragedies they already had before they even understand what is life all about. Fortunately, for them, there are some people who try to help them out and give them a second shot at life. And having a child of my own gives me a full understanding how much a parent 's guidance and love mean to their lives and I am trying to introduce adoptuskids.org to help raise awareness of homelessness and adoption to all the people and hoping that the children in the foster care system will get a lot of help, support, and love.
Single moms are the most affected and providing childcare on campus is very beneficial to them. More than 4 million women attend two-year public institutions or community colleges, and more than 1 million of them are mothers. Many student mothers struggle to stay enrolled all the way through graduation. Most of them are more likely to drop out of school, and the reason is because most often there is no affordable or available childcare and the students have limited financial resources. The average daycare center cost for an infant is higher than a year’s tuition and fees at a public college. It makes affordable on-campus child care a necessary provision for students. Childcare on campus helps to contribute to the learning
Foster Children who are emancipated out of foster care are in danger of becoming homeless because Foster Homes are allowing many unfit parents to adopt, they are emancipated before they can find a job that can support them, and they are not being taught the skills to avoid homelessness.
Take a look around. What do you see? In a world full of people that suffer from constant depression and always look to food as a way out; we are now known to be one of the world’s most obese people on earth. There are endless disadvantages to having so many restaurants as well as fast food places on every corner that you turn. If you were to set yourself on any corner in most rural areas you will see a Mcdonalds, Taco Bell, Carl 's Jr, Jack in the box all around you. But what doesn 't get across most people 's heads is that this food is what causes most issues in bad health which leads to other defects in one 's life. Everyone has a different perspective on the basis of child obesity depending on whether their weight has a huge factor on their
In America, advertising plays an important role for buisnesses trying to get the word out on their new product. Although, some advertisements are not trying to target children, it does seem that way. However, I feel that this should not result in banning, but some limiting of advertisements. Buisnesses should make their messages to consumers clearer, targeting people of an elder age. If buisnesses are going to target children, at least try to persuade them to do the right things and not just try to get them to buy their products!
“Stolen people, stolen dream” is the brutality faced by numerous, vulnerable, gullible children in the black market around the world even in the admirable United States. Trafficking of children is the modern day slavery, the act of recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining a person for compelled labor or commercial sex acts through the use of force, fraud, or coercion. More than ever, it has become a lucrative method that is trending in the underground economy. A pimp can profit up to $150,000 per children from age 4-12 every year, as reported by the UNICEF. Also, according to the International Labor Organization statistics, “There are 20.9 million victim of human trafficking globally, with hundreds of thousands in the United
Homelessness is a major issue so we should fund more programs for it. Both adults and children are affected by this problem. California has a major homeless problem that has increased 8 percent between 2012 to 2013 (Crary, David, and Lisa Leff, n.p). This negatively affected california, many of the people on the streets could have helped the society but instead were too busy struggling to survive. Also in california, “The Department of Housing and Urban Development recently found that for a single night in january 2013, there were 610,000 homeless people in one small city” (Crary, David, and Lisa Leff, n.p). This is just california imagine how many homeless people there are in the entire United States. This growing problem needs to be stopped and in order to do so we need to create more programs such as programs to help the homeless get jobs, educate them on how to live properly or pay for a house
Poverty is “the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions” (Merriam-Webster dictionary, 2015); in other words, struggling to provide a comfortable living style. It is the cause of family stress and many other problems, especially for the children. Millions of people around the world are struggling with poverty; families suffering to provide enough food seem to be growing in numbers. According to the United States Census Bureau, the poverty rate was highest in the 1960s and decreased greatly in the 1970s. However, it is now slowly starting to increase again. Recently released census data by the Bureau showed that one in five people are living in poverty (Census Bureau, 2014). Poverty is even
Market opportunities for breakfast cereals is vast, some segments of the market have been neglected, most notably that of the over-50’s. Insightful presentations were given at the “Older, Richer, Wiser” Conference that would suggest the over 50’s market segment is targetable.

Many children in Afghanistan are dying and can use all the help they can get. A majority of Afghanistan’s population is dying because of no clean water sources, no safe shelters, and they aren’t being provided health care. United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is the best worldwide organization. They fulfill to the children’s needs in Afghanistan and they do so much more. People should support UNICEF because they provide this help such as sanitation, health, and care in not just Afghanistan, but all over the world.
