You Think You Are Helping, but You Are Not “Hey I’m going to need you to stay over a few extra hours” is something that most workers hear more often than not. Working long shifts without a break can drain you mentally and physically. There are many cases of workplace bullying. There are various amounts of websites dedicated to helping victims of workplace bullying. A personal interview with Amber Mann, a 20-year-old coworker of mine at Sunset Village Retirement Homes, talked about how poor treatment at work affects how she perseveres through the grueling hours of a horrible work week. How you are treated at work can affect how you work, your mood and your all around feelings of being there. Being an employee in an environment that …show more content…
On the job there is more often than not going to be gossip. Working in a facility that is mainly populated with female employees there is bound to be quite a bit of gossip going around the facility. Having someone sit there and talk behind a person 's back and there is no one who is stopping the gossip is bullying. There are many websites that are dedicated to stopping workplace bullying. One of the websites gives the definition of bullying as, “Workplace bullying refers to repeated, unreasonable actions of individuals (or a group) directed towards an employee (or a group of employees), which are intended to intimidate, degrade, humiliate, or undermine; or which create a risk to the health or safety of the employee(s)” (Washington State …show more content…
All the employers would have to do is hire more help so they do not wear out their staff. Hiring more help would be simple, but an exceptional management team needs to interview potential employees looking for the staff that will stick around and not call off every other week. Continuing to hire staff with poor work ethic will just continue the never ending cycle of overworked employees. Over working the staff would just make the workers miserable and not want to continue working at that facility. Employees who are overworked will tend to resent the facility and decide to quit and find a “better” place to work, but their all the same in the policies for being mandated. A facility without employees can not thrive, let alone even exist. The facilities should put in guidelines to help alleviate the stress and headache of having to be forced over. Employees should earn days off after being mandated and should not be forced to work more than five days in a row. Working holidays are a given in this choice of career, but to be forced to work seven days in a row because the said holiday falls on the only day off the employee has, is completely uncalled for. The scheduler should work with an employee who is being forced to work and help cover a shift during the week to lessen the burden of working many days in a row. Management would never be caught dead being forced to work seven days in a row; on the
It has various negative effects which are persistent in nature, and the individual victim realizes the behaviour as bullying (Wilson, 2016). Bullying is associated with physical and psychological problems among nurses leading to absenteeism, poor performance, low job satisfaction, and increased turnover (Ganz, et al., 2015). The issue of bullying among nurses further affects the entire health care team including patient outcomes and health care costs due to the declining level of nurses’ performance (Becher & Visovsky, 2012). Although bullying exists in the nursing work place, they are silent in nature, and goes undetected (Becher & Visovsky,2012). Hence, identifying and managing workplace bullying needs efforts of individual facing bullying and support of the
Workplace bullying is defined as any as any type of repetitive abuse in which the victim of the bullying behaviour suffers verbal abuse, threats, humiliating or intimidating behaviours, or behaviours that interfere with his or her job performance and are meant to place at risk the health and safety of the victim (Murray, 2009). Bullying can take many forms, some blatant, others more subtle. Researchers ha...

Working excessive hours is counterproductive to both employees and employers. Firms suffer as quality, innovation, and output fall because of overworked employees. Negative effects of overwork include impacts to productivity, interpersonal relations, judgments, task prioritization, and employee retention which impact firm’s bottom line. Studies also show negative impacts of working past human constraints manifest as health issues impacting output or causing employees to miss work because of sickness. Working more does not equate to greater production failing to achieve the goal of both employees and

A good portion of the time administration will highlight their long term employees, stating that they can work short because they are the best. Making it seem like the situation at hand isn’t as bad because they have people who do their jobs. However, this tactic only works for so long, people who are overworked get tired, which could lead to dangerous even life threatening effects. Mixing up medications, giving the wrong dosage of a narcotic, even being so exhausted after another 12, or 16 hour shift that they fall asleep on the way home. Any sane person can see how discombobulated this can
As a society, we often underestimate the damages that bullying cause on children, not just America but all over, and the ones who suffer are the victims themselves. Victims are damaged with the stigma that they are weak, yet somehow have to fend for themselves against something that they have little to no control over. Whether it is for funding, a reputation or any other reason schools sweep their bullying problem under the rug or turn a blind eye, however they have more potential to end this growing issue. To the schools that think bullying is not their problem, they should know that according to heyugly.org, an anti-bullying campaign, “Approximately, 160,000 children a day stay home from school in fear of being bullied.”They also point out
Working 12 hours a day six days a week can definitely destroy the desire to wake up every morning and go to work. This was a situation I found myself in for two long years. At a previous company it was mandatory by the managers to work 72 hour work weeks, which completely overwhelmed the employees. According to research done by ABCNEWS (2015) 26 percent of employees said they were working too hard. This was 100 percent the case while working as a dispatch in the oilfields. The Division Manager at this oilfield company refused to hire enough employees to lessen the work load on the current employees exhausted. Workplace safety, performances, and staff retention all suffered due to the overworked employees. The company began to see a high turnover rate, which had an even great impact on hours worked. It also saw a decrease in moral, employee attendance, and attitudes suffered greatly from the impact of working so many hours. Barajas (2011) explains being overworked is about the gap between the tasks you are currently doing and what you are expected to be doing. He suggests that this type of stress creates a lot of tension in personal and work environment, which is exactly what the oilfield company was experiencing. The division manager failed to acknowledge there was a problem with employees being over-worked and showed little regard to how it was affect the current employees. He did not take anything into consideration and rarely responded to
A sense of anonymity online gives someone an excuse to commit sexual harassment, or be more aggressive towards others. Sexual Harassment involves an unwelcome sexual advance that can cause a person to not be able to work well in their work environment as well as be uncomfortable in a personal environment as well. Social media has a sort of anonymity, which doubles, as a sort of shield to people who harass other’s online, and the law can only do so much for the victim. Sexual harassment, not only in person, but online can have devastating emotional, mental and physical repercussions to the victim who is being sexually harassed. Taking away the power the offender has is one of the ways to give the victim their life back, as well as making it
For high school students bullying and harassment can make a time of learning and new social interactions a nightmare. The possibility of being physically or verbally bullied at school,, a place where student should feel safe, is a growing peril. Unfortunately, bullying is nothing new in the United States. As well as the problem of avoiding being a victim of bullying at school, students can not escape this harsh scrutiny because of the rise of social media networks. Teenagers are being harassed on social media at alarming rates and a majority of school can do nothing about it. To understand the role social media has in the battle to prevent harassment and cyberbullying, it is essential that people identify the roles schools and students play in these situations.
Bullying against teens is still happening even though there are various awareness programs to try to prevent it. I want to create awareness of bullying against teens of all religions, race, and sexual orientation. Even with the various attention to bullying, the problem still persists despite the school providing awareness, students are still afraid to say anything. Societal patterns today make bullying a difficult issue to eliminate. Starting in 2007, a total of 35 states made laws to go against bullying at school. These laws consisted of a clear definition of bullying, and how schools will be required to enforce uniform standards of conduct. The reason bullying comes as such an issue to me is because I actually know friends that have been suicidal and have caused themselves harm due to being bullied every day, in school and at home.
Bullying is something that is not something new and is actually something that society continues to face. Over the years, bullying has been looked at as being so ordinary in schools that it is continuously overlooked as an emanate threat to students and has been lowered to a belief that bullying is a part of the developmental stage that most young children will experience then overcome (Allebeck, 2005, p. 129). Not everyone gets over the extreme hurt that can come as an effect from bullying, for both the bully and the victim. Because of this, we now see bullying affecting places such as the workplace, social events and even the home. The issue of bullying is not only experienced in schools, but the school environment is one of the best places
Problems usually have solutions. Solutions could be extremely easy to find, or the process of finding one could be problematic. One worldly issue that does not have a solution yet is bullying. Bullying is present in schools world-wide, and it has been this way since there have been schools. This horrible act is accepted as part of life. People are used to bullying, that it almost seems normal. This should not be the case. Bullying is a horrific act that needs to be stopped, but is that possible? Three specific ways people have proposed to stop bullying is to criminalize bully in an attempt to deter any further bullying, to assign bullies student mentors in order to have someone guide them, or to force school or parental figures to be more active in trying to prevent bullying. Each of these methods has its advantages and disadvantages, but which is the best method to effectively stop bullying?
Bullying has become a serious problem in public schools systems. Being a victim of bullying is a daily struggle for some students. The issue continues to grow, but the question is how to stop bullying from occurring. Many ways have been attempted to stop bullying, but some are more effective than others. Having the students get involved seems to have the most positive effect on the bullying issue in public school systems.
