Introduction They have been some challenges in trying to figure out the right approach to follow in a research study, and this semester is more of an eye opener that reveals the expected ways in conducting research which has been a very interesting and tough process. Dudley (2011), least four major search strategies available for locating references related to the chosen topic issues these include: (1) consultation, (2) searches in subject indexes, (3) browsing, and (4) footnote chasing. Researcher needs to be aware of all of these strategies in information gathering. Question 1: What have you learned about research? Social work? Yourself? According to Dudley (2016), research tools help us to define the concepts we use in social work in As a social worker one cannot comprehend how vast the knowledge of research work impact the profession. All the intervention plans and diagnosis that relates to the need of clients as some research work that provide accurate information about the population and this awareness make social worker to feel relax that they have other sources that can be vital in providing help for their clients. More so research work helps social worker to verify if there intuition concerning a situation is correct, by researching on their findings to see the accountability of the result outcome. Without the knowledge from past research work it will be difficult for the social work profession to have ideas of the kind of intervention methods to use, since the profession address different needs of clients. But with some research work they have the right means in assisting clients in providing intervention Although the mixed method gathering information is good, but I need to understand the procedure and technique needed to achieve the end results. Also, I will need to have a target schedule plan on how the research study can be achieve, which should be done in a more realistic pattern in concentrating on research topics that align to the study. Separate my findings from different ethnic groups about their perspective on intimate violent relationship, by avoiding generalize opinion of research participant, investigate and observe both first-hand and second-hand through the examination of external and internal
The writings of advocates of EBP demonstrate that a shift is taking place in the social work field towards a more integrated approach where “social work is an applied, empirically grounded social and cultural science aiming at both causal explanation and interpretive understanding” (Otto & Zeigler, 2008, p. 273). Talking about the limits of RCTs they suggest that “Typically, the experimental design is not able to control for the effects of worker-client dynamics and client characteristics that are not clearly defined, understood or measurable” (Cnaan & Dichter, 2008 p. 281). They go on to say: that there is a need for some sort of feedback process where the fit between the practice needs and the effectiveness of the intervention are actually studied. However it is all too common for social work practice and research to be carried out ‘in silo’ form “where the EBP processes are followed up, evaluated, and connected too rarely” (Cnaan & Dichter, 2008 p. 289).
Student outlines two social work interventions, including descriptions of the specific roles and tasks that a social worker would undertake to help to solve the problem.
As a social worker, I am ready to apply my knowledge and skill, in fact, to work in variety environment, diversive culture and all levels such as Macro, Mezzo, and Micro. Social work facing multiplies human behavior, different levels the human system, and different professionals and system. As a result, if I applied my learned in the generalist intervention models will help me to understand what my

As social workers there will be numerous times in which one must do research on a certain topic or case they are working on. When conducting both qualitative and quantitative research, there is a logical sequence of events; both types articulating a clear problem statement must precede all other tasks (Yegidis, Weinbach, & Myers, 2012, p. 55). If one does not have a clear problem statement, then the results may not be exactly what one is looking to achieve. Time is a precious entity, whether you are a client, researcher, social worker, whatever the case; one must a clear research problem so that time is not wasted on other aspects that have nothing to do with the end result. Conducting research can be an intense process, in using the proper
In 2008, there were more than 1,977,000 deaths that were caused by preventable risk factors. The top 3 causes of death in the United States are diseases of the heart, malignant neoplasms (cancer), and chronic lower respiratory diseases. All these diseases are preventable. People need to start paying more attention to what they’re eating, exercising more, giving up unhealthy behaviors and taking care of our mental health.
Krysik, J. L. & Finn, J. (2013). Research for effective social work practice. New York, NY:
A social worker must have the knowledge and skills to apply to intervention strategies that can address key issues through a wide range of tools (Miley, O’Melia & Dubois 2013, p. 7). To devise an intervention plan for the case study, Miley’s (2013, p. 112) four step model is utilised.
It only takes one rotten egg to stink up the fridge and a deep clean to make it fresh again. Just like that rotten egg smell, it only takes a few inconsiderate people with irrational and hateful thoughts to stink up societal thinking. As a group of human beings controlling one society it is the job of every one of us to encourage social responsibility. Only the responsible thoughts of many can deep clean the hate, violence and irrational thinking of those who don’t care to contribute positively and constructively. The ones who will make the most difference in the world are the ones who have open minds and good intentions; who act for the good of the whole and not for only themselves.
Research is a necessity when it comes to providing services. Social Workers need it to be able to determine their clients ' needs, to see what resources/services they have access to and if their client doesn 't have much access where can they get it. Research is also used to see how effective an intervention is and whether it would be a right fit for their clients. It provides social service agents with ways to identify problems within their clients, communities, organizations, and the government. Also it helps them to create ways to aid in effective change. It is very beneficial when a social worker needs to "assess the needs and resources of people in their environments, evaluate the effectiveness of social work services in meeting people
There are many models and theories that shape the practice of social work and the ways in which professional social workers engage with their clients. Most of the models and theories that shape the practice are interchangeable and closely related or intertwined ideas but the oldest models like the Remedial Model, Reciprocal Model and the Social Goals models are the foundation for social work practice and the models and theories that govern it. In order to fully grasp the concepts of any of the resulting models and how to use any model in your practice, you as a practitioner must first master the definition and conceptional use of these models in practice.
….both quantitative and qualitative research are important and useful. The goal of mixed methods research is not to replace either of these approaches but rather to draw from the strengths and minimize the weaknesses of both in single research studies and across studies.
families, and communities to enhance their individual and collective well-being. Social workers are change agents and because of that, they aim to help people develop their skills and abilities to use resources provided to them to strengthen and improve their lives and communities to resolve problems. One of the main goal of social workers is to improve the well-being and lives of the most vulnerable populations, fight against poverty, unemployment, domestic violence and the underserviced population by emphasizing on the person-in-environment and social justice model. The social work profession, considerers the individuals’ internal and external struggles, while working with the individuals to examine their relationships, family, work environment, community, and other things that might impact them and identify ways to help address problems and challenges.
The work of a social worker is complex and all encompassing. Social workers work in many capacities seeking justice, liberation, and equality. There work is global, as they work to put policies in place to govern practices. To keep up with societal shifts and generational changes there learning is continuous. As new questions rise so does the need for the continuation of research, not only to answer these questions but to implement into
The social work profession is defined as “a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people (ISFW, ‘Global Definition of Social Work’, 2016).” The definition may be true about the profession but it is more in depth than just that. To me, the profession’s primary focus is to help others through life as much as we can while letting them make their own choices and guiding them. In society, social workers are utilized in many different nonprofit and government roles. They serve the community in many different ways from monitoring parent visits to helping people through mental illnesses. Human beings are so complex and things that happen
