Have you ever tried to steal something from someone that you really wanted? Have you ever had someone help you for a situation or stand out for you? What are some hard things you have been through? The theme of the fictional story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi by Rudyard Kipling is that when you fight for something that you really want you don’t just steal it you can just ask for it instead of making enemies and also people who love you always are there for you. Rikki Tikki is a brave and curious character in this story. In the text it said …..,”the head above the hood; and when I am there, I must let go.” (page 14). This gives proof that Rikki Tikki is brave enough that he will let go once he arrives to defeat Nag. I wrote that thesis because Rikki …show more content…
Tikki tries to steal Nagaina’s eggs and Darzee helps Rikki Tikki steal Nagaina’s eggs by pretending to have a broken wing. (pages 15-16). In paragraph 95 it said that “Rikki Tikki jumped up and backward,” because he was going to jump up to Nag (page 19). He was brave once again because Nagaina was striking again and again and each time she came in with her head, he whacked her over and over in a circle. This proves that Nagaina and Rikki Tikki are truly enemies. These are some things that give proof that Rikki Tikki is Brave and curious about what he does. Nagaina, another character in the story is mean and cowardly.
In the text it said, Nagaina lifted her head and hissed. “You warned Rikki Tikki when I would have killed him.” (page 16). On page 16 it proves that Nagaina is mean to Rikki Tikki because she was trying to kill him because Rikki Tikki stole her eggs and now she wants revenge by trying to kill him. If Nagaina and Rikki Tikki are keep on threatening each other, they are going to have the same problem over and over and they are never going to get along. Rikki Tikki also has done mean stuff to Nagaina, like taking her eggs and smashing them. In addition, Nagaina was cowardly telling Rikki Tikki, Teddy and Darzee to stay still because she was going to try and kill all three of them because they killed her husband, Nag (page 17). This shows that Nagaina is a coward and she is being mean and she is trying to kill them. Rikki Tikki killed Nag and now Nagaina is willing to kill him. This shows how Nagaina is mean and …show more content…
cowardly. The author, Rudyard Kipling, uses personification in this story to help demonstrate the actions and also describing what Rikki Tikki sees or does.
For example, you can be strong and defend to those you love or those who love you. For example, in the text it said, “Rikki Tikki felt his eyes growing red and hot (page 9). On page 9 Rikki Tikki was fighting with Nag and he got really mad. This shows that when Rikki Tikki was fighting with Nag, his eyes weren’t really growing red. They were just red and hot because he got mad and he was fighting with Nag. Another example was when the text mentioned, “The hour began to move muscle by muscle,......” (page 13). On this page, it talked about the hour moving. The hour doesn’t really move muscle by muscle it was just moving second by second. Thusly, personification can show the things you do and describe them in a human-like
way. Defending your friends is really awesome, even when they do the same thing for you. Rikki Tikki and Nagaina are enemies, but their own friends help each other out and stand out for them being brave and strong no matter how big or small they are. Everyone has at least someone who can do anything for them. Care for them, stand out for them and even be their friend if they really love you even whenever you are going through some hard things.
The poem “Snapping Beans” by Lisa Parker is about a girl who visits her grandmother. In the poem, the girl and the grandmother talk about their usual things, like how she is going in school. The girl responds with how school is going good, but she knows that her grandmother would not approve of her social circle and what they do and talk about. The narrator does an excellent job of using imagery and personification to help the reader understand on an emotional level of how the student may be feeling while sitting on the porch with her grandmother. One example of personification in this poem would be: “About the nights I cried into the familiar / heartsick panels of the quilt she made me,” (26-27). This use of personification indicates that the panels of the quilt are heartsick because the girl cries each night into her quilt because she misses her grandmother dearly. In Regina Barreca’s poem “Nighttime Fires, the narrator explains her complex view of her father. Imagery plays a big role in this poem because it vividly illustrates the girl’s impression of her father’s...
“ The horizon was the color of milk. Cold and fresh. Poured out among the bodies” (Zusak 175). The device is used in the evidence of the quote by using descriptives words that create a mental image. The text gives the reader that opportunity to use their senses when reading the story. “Somehow, between the sadness and loss, Max Vandenburg, who was now a teenager with hard hands, blackened eyes, and a sore tooth, was also a little disappointed” (Zusak 188). This quote demonstrates how the author uses descriptive words to create a mental image which gives the text more of an appeal to the reader's sense such as vision. “She could see his face now, in the tired light. His mouth was open and his skin was the color of eggshells. Whisker coated his jaw and chin, and his ears were hard and flat. He had a small but misshapen nose” (Zusak 201). The quotes allows the reader to visualize what the characters facial features looked like through the use of descriptive words. Imagery helps bring the story to life and to make the text more exciting. The reader's senses can be used to determine the observations that the author is making about its characters. The literary device changes the text by letting the reader interact with the text by using their observation skills. The author is using imagery by creating images that engages the reader to know exactly what's going on in the story which allows them to
My second claim is that personification is the best literary device that gives suspense because it uses descriptive words to compare human like qualities with non-living things to explain what’s going on in the story. It uses such detail that the reader ponders about what will happen next. In
imagery illustrates the scene and tone of the speaker. The use of personification portrays the
A good example of imagery can be found at the end of the story in the last paragraph. For this part of imagery, the main character Jackson Jackson has received his grandmother’s regalia from the pawn shop employee without having to pay the total of $999 he originally had to pay. (Alexie) “I took my grandmother’s regalia and walked outside. I knew that solitary yellow bead was part of me. I knew I was that yellow bead in part. Outside, I wrapped myself in my grandmother’s regalia and breathed her in. I stepped off the sidewalk and into the intersection. Pedestrians stopped. Cars stopped. The city stopped. They all watched me dance with my grandmother. I was my grandmother, dancing.” This statement made at the end of the story indicates a strong sense of imagery that details Jackson’s emotions towards getting his grandmother’s regalia from the pawn shop. The yellow bead he mentions was his strongest symbol of feeling toward his grandmother, feeling as if he were a part of that yellow bead, in this case, his grandmother. Jackson describes in more detail of how he felt more like his grandmother after he wrapped the regalia around him. The pedestrians, city, everything around him was watching him feel like his grandmother, like some sort of flashback he could be
Imagery is used by many authors as a crucial element of character development. These authors draw parallels between the imagery in their stories and the main characters' thoughts and feelings. Through intense imagery, non-human elements such as the natural environment, animals, and inanimate objects are brought to life with characteristics that match those of the characters involved.
If you were in this situation how would you feel? If you're patiently waiting for your husband to come home and you give him a kiss as he returns. As he walks and talks little to you then he puts it out there like it’s nothing. Would you cry or would you be shocked? would you fight or would you fall ? tell how you would feel if you were like mary maloney were your husband's going to leave you like he left her. I think that mary maloney is innocent because her husband was a cruel and not very kind man. Not only was he having an affair with another woman he was disrespectful to her he yelled at her and how do we not know he wasn't abusive to her. His fellow officers called him a “lady's man”. I think that mary should not be convicted of murder.
A couple examples the narrator used are; “He was a big man, says the size of his shoes”, “God-fearing man, says the Bible with a broken back”, and “A women lived with him, says the bedroom wall papered with lilacs.” These items do not really talk but they do describe the family. Personification is an effective way for the narrator to introduce the people to the readers without the family being physically present in the poem. Therefore letting the readers infer traits about the family through the items left
An example of personification is, “Do you think a snake killer kills muskrats?” said Rikki-Tikki scornfully. (paragraph 34). This is an example of personification because animals can not talk and do not have human-like qualities. This personification proves my theme because when Rikki-Tikki does this it shows his bravery to talk to Nagaina in that kind of tone. Another piece of evidence is “ “Then Rikki-Tikki came up and cried: ‘Turn round, Nagaina; turn and fight!’” (para 88). This is an example of personification because it gives the animals human-like qualities and that Rikki Tikki is talking to Nagaina as if they were people. He shows that he is brave by wanting to start a conflict between Nagaina. By using personification, it gives the text more exaggeration to show the fighting between Rikki-Tikki and
The author use personification in the poem because he sees but things will be easier to explain if he uses figurative language. The metaphor comparing to things without using like or as like when she said in the poem ´´ Big ghost in a cloud´ ´ She used metaphor to give a better example of what she sees and what she sees Is cloud shaped as different animals or anything but in the poem she pretty much-seen cloud shaped as the ghost.
Elvis Presley changed the music world as they knew it back in the 50’s he came out with a wild new style unlike any other. Even to this day if you hear Elvis’ name you automatically think of his signature style or as the king of rock and roll. Hound Dog was controversial for it’s time and made extra controversial by Elvis’ moves and how the ladies would swoon and storm the stage to see him. Presley was so ahead of his time that most adults didn’t because of his so-called vulgar ways but the younger generation went crazy for Elvis and his new style of blues meets country hence creating rock and becoming the king.
“The city held its breath.” (Hosseini 172). This is personification as a city cannot actually hold its breath.
In "Elegy for Jane", Theodore Roethke uses personification by describing the way that the leaves, the wren, the branches and twigs, the shade and the mold all moved in some way or another. He gave them
Rikki-tikki-tavi is a wonderful piece of literature written by Rudyard Kipling. It is about a young mongoose who bravely fights and wins multiple battle against two cobras, Nag and Nagaina at an army base in India. He saved many lives by killing the villainous snakes in the garden. Although was sometimes very curious which got him into a little trouble from time to time. He was proclaimed the hero of the bungalow, a strongly deserved title. I believe he has a right to be proud of himself because he saved the family’s life, he prevented further killings of the animals at the garden, and he strategically thought out a solution for each problems calmly and bravely.
It could be told by Teddy's point of view. It describes how he felt when Nagaina was about to bite Teddy and how he felt about Rikki-tikki-tavi. It is also told by Nagaina's point of view and how she feels when Nag died. The story is told from Teddy's mom's as well. It describes how she feels when they find Rikki-tikki-tavi and when Rikki-tikki-tavi and Teddy get close. Lastly, it is also told in Teddy's father's point of view when they found Rikki-tikki-tavi and when Nagaina was going to attack his family and how he felt Rikki-tikki-tavi was
