The two poems I will be discussing are My fathers is a simple man and Life doesn't frighten me. The authors of the poems are Luis Omar Salinas and Maya Angelou. The overall message that both poems are trying to get us the readers to understand is life is not always easy. Life throws things at you when you least expect it at times it would be good things or bad things. But we'll both poems are pretty much saying is that no matter what life throws at you and the obstacles you're going to face in life never give up don't let life itself let you fall don't let life itself let you feel like you can't do anything or be somebody because if you try so hard to make your life easier it's only going to get harder. but we'll both poems are trying to …show more content…
The author use personification in the poem because he sees but things will be easier to explain if he uses figurative language. The metaphor comparing to things without using like or as like when she said in the poem ´´Big ghost in a cloud´´ She used metaphor to give a better example of what she sees and what she sees Is cloud shaped as different animals or anything but in the poem she pretty much-seen cloud shaped as the ghost. She uses personification in this line ´´Mean old Mother Goose´´ She is describing how many people are Unfair and mean in this life but she doesn't want to give it away so she says mean old mother goose. In the poem life doesn't frighten me I feel like the author did put a lot of effort in her use of words and figurative language and also she described you really well but using figurative language by making the readers understand that life isn't easy and there's always going to be that obstacle that you have to face.In the poem My father is a simple man, Personification is used to Give the readers a better understanding of what's happening and explaining what his journey is with his dad and what he wants to see happen and what his dad wants to see his son become. By using personification he wants to get the readers to understand that he loves his dad and he's going to do whatever it takes in his power to make him happy and he wants to really understand his journey he's …show more content…
I chose the word determined because the way the girl describes herself in the poem is so poetic and the way she expresses herself. In the poem she talks about how life is going to be on Fair with you and life is not always there to give you what you want but you always have to make the best of it because just because life doesn't give you what you want doesn't mean you have to give up automatically. In the poem My father in a simple man, It has a similar tone to the poem life doesn't frighten me. My father is a simple man has a mood is sweet and kind. the poem is pretty much saying that no matter what happens everything will be okay in the end because he knows he has his dad by his side and he is realizing that he can make his father Proud by doing so many good things in the world. so both poems have a nice determined and kind tone and mood both poems share that bravery and that they're not scared of anything no matter what life throws at them they look at everything the way
The poem is written in the father’s point of view; this gives insight of the father’s character and
and make fun of black elders. And would talk to them any kind of way.
In her essay, “Momma, the Dentist, and me” Maya Angelou describe her insight in remembering an incident of racism. The incident refer to a time when a white dentist named Lincoln did not treat her tooth ace just for being colored “Niggah.” In America no one should be allowed to be a form of prisoner, because of their native skin color. Americans should be held accountable for their actions whenever a color person are in need of help their social life. There should be laws ordinances to prohibit persons from confronting -either verbally or physically -color people for not being a Caucasian person. This conflict in rights between those held by color people and the American people those held by, because American refused freedom rights, endanger lives, and economic issues.
Robert Frost amazingly demonstrates the woman's complex thoughts through the use of character portrayal, metaphor, symbolism, and diction. He illustrates his clear idea about how she lives her life, having struggles in her mind. Reflecting her life in the story that she tells, the poem presents a journey to find out how and why she lives the way she lives between her wishes and beliefs. Using those devices effectively, Frost presents his ideas clearly and makes a strong impression on the reader. Through his demonstration of her journey of life, he shows the significance of life and its complexity.
Father and Son by Bernard McLaverty 'Father and Son' by Bernard McLaverty is a short story which is set in
During the process of growing up, we are taught to believe that life is relatively colorful and rich; however, if this view is right, how can we explain why literature illustrates the negative and painful feeling of life? Thus, sorrow is inescapable; as it increase one cannot hide it. From the moment we are born into the world, people suffer from different kinds of sorrow. Even though we believe there are so many happy things around us, these things are heartbreaking. The poems “Tips from My Father” by Carol Ann Davis, “Not Waving but Drowning” by Stevie Smith, and “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop convey the sorrow about growing up, about sorrowful pretending, and even about life itself.
The poem starts off with a solid use of personification to help the reader follow the story being told by the use of figurative language. The same poem by Richard, The City Is So Big, he uses personification to help give the reader an even better glimpse of what is happening, later on in the poem, it says “I have seen machines eating houses”. By using the personification in the poem, it gives the reader a strong sense of imagery and it gives us a good mental picture of what is happening in the
The poem “ A Father To His Son” uses metaphors, similes , and irony to emphasize the theme of the poem. Carl Sandburg says "Life is a soft loam; be gentle; go easy." stanza one, this is irony that the Father is saying. He doesn’t want his son to be gentle and soft. This expresses the theme because the Father is helping his son and is wanting him to live a good life. In the book “ War and Watermelons” Rich Wallace uses examples to emphasize the theme. Ryan in the book says “ He dragged me to the admission office at Drew. I applied in person for January.” pg. 171 Rich Wallace is giving a fact and a example of the theme. This is a example of the theme because Ryan and Brody’s dad does not want Ryan to go to war on Vietnam. He knows if he goes he could die their and they might not be able to see him again. Their dad wants to spend time with him and enrolling him into college helps in the long run of Ryan and his did spending time
These poems both tell a story of their own. I feel as though they are the same because they are talking about the same situation, but during different periods of her life. The speaker used “Before I got my eye put out” and “We grow accustomed to the dark” to make us find a deeper understanding of what they were really trying to say. I also feel as though, they wrote this all out of pain. They couldn't keep the pain in her head anymore, so they wrote it down on paper in the dark. Wrote it down on paper, but yet was still trying to find the light to stop all of this pain and suffering. Trying to find the light, but was in the dark so much, it was hard to adjust to the light. It was worth a try though, wasn't
The first of my three poems focuses on the theme life, the poem is “A Poison Tree” written by William Blake. The
“Champion of the World” by Maya Angelou was more than just a chapter in a story. Angelou has a unique way of developing her narrative writing style. She discuss about the problem of being a black person during those time and the culture difference. She tells us about her childhood which she remembers vividly, how Joe Louis’s fight was so important to the black community. Angelou demonstrates how African Americans in those days were doing anything they could just to prove to themselves and the whites that they are just as important as anyone else.
Each poem utilizes metaphor and symbolism, repetition, and oxymoron in similar and different ways. Subsequently, both poets communicate varying ideas of death, responsibility and other key themes within their respective poems. Contrasting emotions are also explored within each poem. In both poems, the concept of death is not directly
Figurative language can give the reader a visual idea of what is going on. “Soul Remember” has many examples of personification. “The soul remembers those nights of never ending talks” the soul cannot remember anything because it is not a person therefore it cannot hear. However the author gave the soul life in his poem. This helps the reader understand how he misses the person he lost. The author also uses personification when talking about his heart smiling. The author wants to make a connection with the reader. When giving his heart the ability to smile he lets the reader know how happy his loved one made him. Finally, he uses personification on one of the last sentences of the poem. “The soul remembers the little freckles right by the eye”. With this imagery Jesse lets the reader see how he is remembering how the person he loved
In the poem “daddy by Sylvia Plath, the speaker characterizes her father indirectly by using figures of speech. Sylvia Plath uses a series of changing and evolving metaphors, about the speaker’s father to describe him. I believe that Sylvia is the speaker of the poem.
While “Daddy”, “Those Winter Sundays” and “Still I Rise” explore the theme of relationships, they use different literacy and imagery devices to evoke emotions, backing it up by internal rhyme and rhyme scheme. The poems use different devices for sound, but the most used in all three poems is internal rhyme. While “Daddy” and “Those Winter Sundays” prefer using internal rhyme over rhyme schemes, “Still
