Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you felt like you were over or under reacting? Have you ever been accused of being a fish out of its water? Have you had a phase in your life where you looked to someone around you and wished to be like them, more compatible to life? Most people have been there, and to that, the MBTI, the Myer Briggs Types Indicator: a website(1) representing an elaborate encyclopedia for all sixteen types of personality, provides and suggests an online free test to help the user get in touch with his/her personality and with the people surrounding them. The test and the results have a massive impact on the person’s understanding to human beings and life, and is by that a fascinating branch of science. Some …show more content…
The test is the first step one takes towards finding out who s/he is. It is available online, for free, and as phone-apps. There are two requirements for taking the test: time limitation -fifteen minutes maximum- and complete honesty. The questions asked are neither too personal nor embarrassing, but the attempt to answering some of them can cause some discomfort, for example, if asked what to seek, people’s appreciation or success, a sensitive person might belittle himself for answering by: people’s appreciation. The whole point of taking the test and reading about one’s self is to embrace whatever the type one belongs to, yet it can be very uneasy to admit some facts about ourselves while answering. Fortunately for shy people, no one sees the answers or the results but the user. The answers suggested to the questions are usually precise. They do not come in forms of yes or no, black or white, sadly or happily, but in a form of rainbow with all colours possible, trying to guess each person’s definite answer. Once all the questions are answered, an instant summarized result will pop up. The user will then have to read the signs of his type which are usually presented in a form of letters and percentage of what his type does the most and why. The page will surely offer further information, detailed one, and that will be in a form of categories: weakness, strength, relationships, parenthood and career. The test …show more content…
If it was a necessity, the MBTI would have been worldwide known; unfortunately, it is not, yet. And, a lot of people, even with the scientific consent, do not believe in what they refer to by “such things”. I have always been a person who likes silence and loneliness, but, put in the right environment, I can become very energetic and all over the place, which used to mislead people into thinking that I’m faking shyness and social anxiety. After taking the test, I came to realize that my type of people are extroverted and feed on human interactions, yet they take their alone time very seriously which is why I may show what seems to be contradicted behaviour. Also, by reading other traits about myself, such as high sensitivity and wild imagination, I started to fall in love with the parts of myself other consider weakness. And not only am I starting to embrace my whole, but I also am learning to like how different people are. Being okay with something and liking it are two different things and demand two different levels of understanding. As a bonus, I am enjoying following people around and analyzing their moves to conduct their patterns, thus their types. And lately, my conductive abilities, in this context, have been nothing but
The 'Pittenger'. Cautionary comments regarding the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Consulting Psychology Journal: Practice and Research, 57(3), 210-221. University of Minnesota. (2016).
Myers-Brigs is a personality assessment that focuses on specific traits that allow a person to capture a deeper understanding of who they are and what exactly makes them an individual. These traits are the person’s core personality of who they are behind closed doors, not how they would desire to behave. These traits are inborn and are the natural emotional reaction to the environment around us. There are four sections of the Meyers Briggs with two options in each section. Each person who completes the personality assessment is assigned four letters that represent their personal personality type. A summary is given that delves deeper into what those four letters represent. The summary includes, but is not limited to, strengths and weaknesses, relationships, and careers.

Have you ever wondered why you react to situations in the manner to you do? Whether you are calm and collect, or rigid and boisterous, the way you react to life is linked to your personality. Many different models exist to determine your personality type using answers from a series of questions or selecting between two opposing options. The most popularly used assessment is the Myers-Briggs Indicator Type test, which is based off the foundation of C. G. Jung’s work on personality types. The typology in the Myers-Briggs Indicator Type test yields results that determine if the person is introverted (I) or extraverted (E), sensing (S) or intuitive (N), thinking (T) or feeling (F), and judging (J) or perceiving (P). Each of these types corresponds
Garcia-Pelayo2students, one can find oneself surprised when we learn that each state spends roughly “$1.7billion a year” (Ujifusa 1) on standardized testing. Money for standardized testing if being spentbefore students even set their eyes on a college application, and definitely before they start fillingout their applications. Standardized tests are expensive, and usually required too. Unless astudent knows for sure that the school they’re applying to, and getting accepted to, does notrequire standardized tests, spending those $65 dollars is almost inevitable. What most studentsconsider “back-up schools” might not need high grades, but at the very least they need thesatisfaction of knowing that you took a test and that they have a number by
The Myers and Briggs personality test is unlike many of the personality tests you will find randomly online because it was designed to examine the ways in which you focus on the world and make everyday decisions. After taking this test myself I have found out a few things about myself that I did not really notice before. According to the Myers-Briggs test my personality type is INFP, which stands for Introversion, iNtuition, Feeling, and Perceiving. At the start of this test I had no idea that I was considered an introvert because as far as I can remember I have always loved being around people and never really thought about things before acting, which is the exact personality of an extrovert. The end of this personality test has a section that describes the different traits of those under that category and as for what it says about me I do feel that it matches some of my traits to a tee, but at the same time I feel like there are a few traits that are a bit off. Perso...
Thousands of students around the country and around the world will be preparing for the SAT and ACT tests while trying to maintain a high GPA. These tests will potentially have a significant impact on students lives. Some will be taking these tests for the second or even third time to get that 1500 out of 1600 or that 33 out of 36, that they long desire.
Earth is populated by billions of people – one person different from the next. While physical traits like fingerprints and DNA give people their individual identity, there is more to identity than physical traits. The experience of tragedy and joy also plays a critical role in giving people their individual identity. Personality is the other factor that separates one person from others, and the personality of an individual depends heavily on his or her beliefs, culture, and the environment in which he or she is raised. There are several different types of personality tests that one can take to identify certain traits of his or her identity, and one of them is the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). According to MBTI and my life experience, as an ISTP I possess an inquisitive mind, an adventuresome spirit, and a desire to be active.
Through behavioral assessment, “psychologists can count and record the frequency of particular behaviors” (Wood, Wood, & Boyd, 2014, p. 382). According to the textbook Mastering the World of Psychology, the MBTI’s limitation is that it has an “absence of rigorous, controlled validity studies of the inventory” (Wood et al., 2014, p. 385). Unlike the MBTI, the behavioral assessment takes a deeper, more in-depth look at how people respond to certain situations which I believe is a much more reliable way to understand an individual’s true personality rather than relying on their answers to questions on a
According to Carl Jung’s typology theory each individual develops personal preferences which become the foundation for how they face life’s challenges and interact with others. Based on this knowledge Isabel Briggs Myers developed the Myers-Briggs Type indicator (MBTI). This test helps individuals identify and study their individual preference and those of others. After taking the Jung Typology Test, which is based on the MBTI, it was confirmed that my four dominate personality preferences are Introversion, iNtuition, Thinking and Judging. Each personality preference is discussed in detail including strengths and weaknesses. The combination of the four make me a INTJ of the world. This is also discussed in detail including strengths, weaknesses,
Why is standardized testing part of the college admission process? Some of us might still remember taking the SAT or ACT when we were applying for college; however few of us question why we have to take such a test. Millions of dollars are spent on prep materials all so we can achieve a decent score and hope colleges will be impressed. The College Board claims a high SAT or ACT score correlates to college success which is defined as a good GPA throughout college. However if you stop and ask yourself what the SAT or ACT has to do with college success, most of us will arrive at the conclusion that these tests have almost have nothing to do with college success. Some of the questions are simply on these tests are simply ridiculous and will never

After taking the online personality test I learned that I am an INTJ personality. Consequently, this was not a big surprise for me because I had already taken a similar test in my psychology class and ended up with the same result. I did not learn how accurate the test was the first time since I did not do further analysis on the exact meaning of my personality type. The 16 personality type’s website de...
