On February 22nd, President Donald Trump proposed to arm teachers as a response to many recent school gun massacres. His proposal was met with world-wide controversy. Recent discussions are now mostly focusing on how to stop the next shooting, some have agreed for new laws to make it harder to buy weapons, the kind used in Florida. But others have said there should be more guns in school in the hands of teachers and staff, preparing themselves to defend the children they look after. After the massacre at Stoneman Douglas high school, many questions has stirred up about gun laws and the most important issue was on whether school teachers are to be allowed to carry weapons or not. The students of today will bring the beginnings of future society. And the society should give the students the love and encouragement to them that they deserve and need, and that their education should not be held back. Many students who accept teachers as mentors and role models would build suspicion, since it would be unknown information on which teacher has the gun. And there is no promise a teacher would not be tempted to reach for their gun to break up fights or in any other risky situations. It doesn’t make classrooms any safer and dependable when teachers carry concealed weapons, but it rather creates fear and anxiety. Students should never feel anxious and doubtful around their teacher on thinking they might cause an accident or create destruction. Jonathan Grammer, 15, a sophomore at Brookhaven High School said he worries that a teacher could snap and begin shooting. He said there's only one out of the seven of his teachers, he would feel comfortable with having a gun in the classroom.(Clarion Ledger) Think about our own school for a moment. How would you feel if you knew some adults were carrying concealed weapons in this school? The youth also need more connection to mental health, whether in the school or in the community as well.
