The Ebola Outbreak spread panic and suspicion throughout the world, similar to how the witch trials spreading hysteria around Salem. With news of Ebola spreading and mutating quickly, the world flung into panic (Ebola {2}). No one knew who all had come in contact with, or who was carrying the deadly disease. Similarly in Salem, people don’t know who is a witch, nor do they know if witchcraft has even been occurring (Salem). Regardless if the accusations were true, a mass panic spread over the people of Salem just like what happened with the Ebola outbreak.
when no one takes into mind the effects and death of the victims of Ebola.
Quammen takes a more clinical and realistic tone in regard to the Ebola crisis of 2014. By speaking in a more clinical tone he his is increasing his credibility to the audience. Quammen takes time to point out the overall dramatic moments in Preston’s novel. In comparison to Preston, Quammen takes time in the interview to promote his own novel Ebola: The Natural and human history of a deadly virus to the audience. He points this out with the intent to correct the panic and fear that Preston created. He mainly addresses the skeptics of The Hot Zone along with terrified population. Quammen states, and believes, that Ebola is the “dress rehearsal” of dieses yet to come. He doesn’t romanticize the Ebola viruses, he simple states that it needs to be “controlled and stopped”, he does not create Ebola into a disease that needs to be feared. He believes that through Preston’s novel Ebola is miscocepted and interrupted. He is attempting to change the fear into

Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
Yes, this country was founded on liberty and freedom of choice, there can be no denying this. The primary source of debate against vaccinations as an assault on liberty stems from parent’s opinion that this is in some way the government trying to tell them how to raise their children as children in many states must have current vaccinations to attend public school. With respect, the government can have authority as to how someone raises their children. The government has laws detailing what constitutes child endangerment and abuse and failure for parents to remain well outside of these lines can result in parental incarceration and the movement of children into the foster care system. Federal law defines child abuse as "any recent act or failure

“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” This quote is saying that ignorance is the main source of fear. If everything is known, nothing is unknown, so nothing is to be feared. Just like in The Hot Zone, when Tom Geisbert and Peter Jahrling sniffed the flask containing Ebola. Both of them remembered the fateful day that “he might have sniffed just a little bit of it. Anyway, he hadn't sniffed it, he had only whiffed it. He had kind of like waved his hand over it, just to bring the scent to his nose. He hadn't inhaled it.” Ebola is the scary virus, the mystery virus, the one that nobody knows anything about. By admitting to sniffing the flask, the Submarin...

What is going to happen tomorrow? The citizens of America will catch a deadly virus. Though this statement is blunt, this is a reoccurring thought in many people’s minds. According to a Washington Post poll, 43% of Americans are terrified that they or their family members will catch the Ebola virus, and 31% of the United States is scared of a possible Ebola epidemic in the United States. The subject of Ebola is covered on all forms of media ranging from the news on T.V to discussions on Twitter. Shockingly, rumors and stories about this deadly virus are spreading faster than the sickness itself. Similarly in The Demon in the Freezer, Richard Preston writes about true events where people have contracted Anthrax and smallpox, and how groups used fear of the illnesses as their ultimate weapon. Both during the past and the modern world today, fear is the true disease.
Over the past few months, Ebola has captured global attention due to the mass amounts of media coverage swarming the topic. As a result of this sudden outburst of attention to Ebola, the general public might believe this recent pandemic to be the first of its kind: however, there have been several reported cases of the Ebola virus disease that date back to 1976 in the Democratic Republic of Congo. One contested issue that emerges from the current outbreak of the Ebola virus disease in West Africa is the treatment of health care workers who are returning to the United States after working with the infected people. Upon their return from Africa, state officials from New York, New Jersey, Illinois, and Florida, have mandated that the health care
