Yes, this country was founded on liberty and freedom of choice, there can be no denying this. The primary source of debate against vaccinations as an assault on liberty stems from parent’s opinion that this is in some way the government trying to tell them how to raise their children as children in many states must have current vaccinations to attend public school. With respect, the government can have authority as to how someone raises their children. The government has laws detailing what constitutes child endangerment and abuse and failure for parents to remain well outside of these lines can result in parental incarceration and the movement of children into the foster care system. Federal law defines child abuse as "any recent act or failure
This is evident in the changing regulations insurance companies place upon what they will or will not cover from year to year, with the non-covered items list appearing to increase every fiscal year. A great number of insurances do cover vaccinations for children however and assistance is available for children who either do not have health insurance or are underinsured through the use of programs such as the Vaccines for Children program. According to vaccines.gov, “children younger than 19 years of age are eligible for VFC vaccines if they are Medicaid-eligible, American Indian or Alaska Native or have no health insurance. "Underinsured" children who have health insurance that does not cover vaccination can receive VFC vaccines through Federally Qualified Health Centers or Rural Health Centers” (vaccines.gov, accessed July 24 2016). Although there may be fees associated with the utilization of the VFC program, children are protected against denial of vaccination if their family cannot cover the monetary fee, according to the vaccines.gov website. Those who are fortunate enough to have insurance which pays for vaccinations yet still feel that the cost is too high should consider the fact that although the cost of keeping a single child
Yes, there are risks with any medical procedure, and vaccinations are no exception and there is no denying the fact that people have died from vaccinations, however, most of these deaths such as the death of the son of King George III occurred in the late 18th century, a time far removed from our own. For those who cite the disaster at Cutter laboratories which resulted in the inoculation of patients with active poliovirus which resulted in the deaths of ten individuals and the paralysis of “nearly 150” it is important to remember than while this without question is a tragedy which should not be minimalized, this occurred in 1955 when regulations and protocols were nowhere near as strict as they are now. Most people have at one time taken acetaminophen, yet they no longer worry that they would drop dead of cyanide poisoning as was the case for seven people in 1982 (Fletcher, 2009). The notion that the development of Autism or Autism-spectrum disorders are linked to vaccinations such as the measles mumps and rubella, or MMR vaccine resultant from a falsified report by a gastroenterologist Andrew Wakefield and colleagues who stated that 8 children developed Autism due to MMR vaccination which caused which caused “intestinal inflammation that led to translocation of usually no permeable peptides to the bloodstream and, subsequently, to
The American people have rights, and one of those rights is to decide what we want administered into our bodies. I think it is very important to educate others on the risks of vaccines so that they can decide what is fit for them. I also want to bring awareness to the difficulties people face to keep vaccines out of their bodies and their children’s bodies. It should not be a struggle. We have rights to our own bodies and we should not be treated any differently for choosing not to vaccinate. I do not get the flu shot, nor do I get every new shot thrown my way by doctors, and I am perfectly healthy. In fact, I rarely get sick. I depend on natural immunity and other natural means for my health, and that works great. (“Vaccines ProCon.org.”) Barbara Low Fisher, Co-founder of National Vaccine Information Center, stated, "If the State can tag, track down and force citizens against their will to be injected with biological products of known and unknown toxicity today, there will be no limit on which individual freedoms the State can take away in the name of the greater good
Vaccines, by definition, are a “weakened form or passive form of the disease that is given for inoculation” (The Law and Immunization in the United States). As if the small amount of disease being given to you isn’t enough, add in the harmful substances that accompany them. It is believed that one ingredient, thimerosal, is linked to autism. This ingredient is organic mercury and is found in small amounts in vaccines. In the late 1990’s, a physician, Andrew Wakefield wrote an article that implied a correlation between the MMR vaccine and autism. This caused many parents to choose to not vaccinate. Formaldehyde is also found in some vaccines and is believed to cause severe to fatal central nervous system conditions. Glutaraldehyde, a disinfectant, has been found in the diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine and is believed to cause respiratory ailments. Some flu vaccines “contain chicken egg protein, which can be harmful to children who are allergic to eggs” (Vaccines ProCon.org,
At the present time there does not appear to be enough sufficient evidence to recommend that children not be vaccinated. The benefits of having a child vaccinated clearly outweigh any possible harm that the vaccinations might be causing. Children should continue to be vaccinated according to the schedule that has been set down by the CDC, so that everyone can be protected.
Vaccines, like everything, have the potential to be dangerous. According to ProCon, “vaccines can cause serious and fatal side effects (Use Pro Con).” ProCon also said, “According to the CDC, one out of a million children are at risk of life-threatening allergic reactions. The rotavirus vaccination can cause intussusception, which requires hospitalization, in one out of 20,000 babies (Use Pro con).” Those side effects do happen, but they are uncommon. Other side effects that can occur from the “DTaP and MMR vaccines are, long-term seizures, coma, lowered consciousness, and permanent brain damage (Use Pro Con).” These vaccines can severely harm children when they are administered. Vaccines may also be linked to “learning disabilities, asthma, autism, diabetes, chronic inflammation, and others (Use Pro Con).” Vaccines can also be dangerous because of their ingredients. According to ProCon, “some physicians believe that thimerosal, an organic mercury compound found in trace amounts in one flu vaccine for children and other vaccines for adults, is linked to autism (Use Pro Con).” Parents worry that by giving their kids vaccines they could develop autism. ProCon also states, “aluminum is used in some vaccines and excess aluminum in human bodies can cause neurological harm (Use Pro Con).” The chemicals inside of some vaccines can cause serious harm to adults and children, and parents want to avoid that.
Researchers pointed out that diseases like rubella, diphtheria, and whooping cough have killed over thousands of infants every year in the U.S.A and now avoided by vaccinations. They say vaccination do have risks but
The most basic of infections such as the flu or common cold can be very expensive to deal with, one may find themselves taking a child to the doctor to get pills or other forms of ailments for something that could have been circumvented with a vaccine. A months’ worth of the brand name antibiotic can cost up to $60 and the cost doesn’t stop there, a doctor’s visit will also cost money as well as they various test they have to run to identify an illness in a child. A vaccination could prevent all this unnecessary spending and save one
One of the most widely spread propaganda on vaccines is their correlation to autism. This stemmed from a false report by a British doctor that stated the MMR vaccine was causing children to develop autism. “..a paper published in 1998 by Andrew Wakefield and colleagues that is widely rejected by scientists. That work suggested a link between autism and the combined childhood vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella, called the MMR. Several large scientific studies failed to find any connection; the theory was rejected by at least a dozen major U.K. medical groups” (CBS, Measles uptick in Britain). There was also a concern that the ingredient Thimerosal was linked to Autism; this was also proven false by research and Thimerosal has been removed from most vaccines still produced. Therefore, these concerns have no
Vaccinations have become a widely talked about topic. Many people have reasons why people should get vaccinated while others think they shouldn’t. I think the option should be up to the person doing it and if they believe it will help their body. People should have a choice, and shouldn’t be forced into getting vaccinated because the government thinks it will reduce sickness rate. I think a person should get vaccinated because it can reduce sickness and death rate.
As a child, you probably dreaded getting your shots, even though you knew they would help you. Vaccines used to be a normal part of childhood for many people, being as common as skinning your knees during recess or losing a tooth. Today however, many people are opting out of vaccinating their children. They claim that since vaccine preventable disease rates are dropping, their child won’t get it despite being unvaccinated. People also fear that chemicals in vaccines can be harmful, and cause developmental disorders like autism. Almost all states don’t have laws that mandates immunizations, despite the proven benefits of them. Even though some people think vaccines are harmful, they should be required because they prevent health problems, help eradicate diseases, and can even protect others who can’t get vaccinated.
Since the creation of vaccinations two hundred years ago, 9 million people’s lives are saved every year. They have been a revolutionary invention that has decreased the amount of deaths due to diseases such as smallpox, diphtheria, whooping cough, measles, and polio. On November 13, 2015 an Australian mother posted a video on facebook of her 4 month old son who was infected with pertussis or whooping cough. She did this in effort to convince parents to vaccinate their children in order to protect them against diseases like the one that she could have prevented her son from becoming infected with through simply getting him vaccinated. The mother stated that doing nothing is just wrong. By not vaccinating children we are putting them, their families,
Vaccines are safe because of the high safety standards and protocols they must pass through before being administered to the public. Today, new vaccines must first go through numerous tests by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which usually takes several years, and then the FDA decides if the vaccine is safe for human trials (“Vaccine Safety”). After the FDA approves the new vaccine for human testing, clinical trials take place, usually involving thousands of volunteers (“Vaccine Safety”). Once the vaccine proves to be potent, pure and sterile, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) must recommend it for public use. There are multiple monitoring systems in place that track the vaccine when released to the public, and these
Each year, approximately 3 million people die from vaccine-preventable diseases, about 2.3 million are children. Millions of children die each year from something that their parents could have prevented. Vaccinations have been scientifically proven effective in preventing and eliminating many diseases. Yet only about 72.2% or children get the recommended 7-vaccine series of shots (Centers for Disease Control). Vaccines should be required for children because they protect the community from deadly diseases, boost the economy, and have eliminated many diseases that could come back.
To vaccinate or not to vaccinate that is the question. Vaccination has been a hot topic of debate among parents, naturopaths, medical professionals etc since to beginning of its development. Fuel has been added to the fire of the vaccine debate by the media and anti-vaxxer fear mongering tactics, making it hard for people, in particular parents considering vaccination, to decipher fact from fiction. It is important that we first understand the facts rather than believing the latest rumor before making an informed decision upon whether or not we agree with vaccines, and that is what i aim to do in this report. Through my research i have decided that i full heartedly agree with vaccination and believe that everyone who is able to should be vaccinated.
Would you intentionally put your children in harm’s way? Of course not! Parents would never want their children to suffer, especially if there was a way to protect them. However, some parents put their children at risk for deadly diseases by refusing to vaccinate them. If your children are not properly vaccinated, then they are vulnerable to harmful diseases. Vaccines have eliminated many diseases and saved millions of lives. There is currently no federal law that requires vaccination. However, if we do not immunize our children, we are putting them and others at risk for diseases that we can prevent. Children should be vaccinated for their safety and for the well being of the community.
When we think about the word Human Papillomavirus it may sound as confusing as in trying to pronounce this word. The importance is not trying to pronounce it, the importance here is actually knowing what it really means and how easy it is to prevent the spread of this virus that may be fatal in most of the cases of people infected. As we know, all parents always want to protect their young loved children, so why not starting off with getting the vaccines’ series they need, which will save their lives if in case they were to be infected with the disease. We do not have an idea when there may be an epidemic of this virus and of course we all want to be protected, but unfortunately, this vaccine is only effective even before becoming sexually active or before being infected with the virus. I believe that for this vaccine for it to have positive endings in teenagers
