Gone are the days of Andy Griffin and Barney Fife type of policing where either they didn’t carry a gun or carried a gun with the bullet in the shirt pocket. Those were the times when crime was low or almost nonexistent. A time when people didn’t have to lock the doors on their homes or cars. Currently, society seems to be going back to the western days, when almost everyone carried a gun and was prepared to use it if necessary.
Presently, police are being hunted like animals in the woods and killed by crazed gunman sometimes for unknown reasons. The news is inundated with stories about policeman being shot or killed in the line of duty. We as a society must find a way to deter so many of these heinous and senseless killings. The police

Computers were once thought to be a great tool to use for everything from typing to communicating with relatives in other states. However, criminals are using computers to do all types of illegal crimes such as identity theft, hacking, prostitution and many others. The police must figure a way to curtail these crimes when they are committed. Cybercrimes can be committed from any city in the world. In order to fight cybercrimes, the police are going to need to discuss how the criminals were able to facilitate such crimes. It may be necessary to send police undercover into the organizations that operate the …show more content…
We spend countless dollars taking care of these individuals while they sit in jail/prison. Our tax dollars pay to feed, clothe them as well as take care of their medical needs. I would like for the police to create a program that will allow drug dealers to work during the day and take the money earned to pay restitution, court costs and child support if they have children. When these dealers are incarcerated the children do not receive any type of child support. By creating a work program that could train the dealers at jobs that they could work after they are released from jail/prison. This type of program could assist small towns with limited budgets and high drug arrests. The work program would require the participants to get a GED if they don’t have a high school diploma and train at various entry level
In the United States, local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, including FBI, Department of Homeland Security, among others, have taken on roles to fight computer crimes and terrorism. The roles and responses of these law enforcement agencies concerning digital crime have created challenges that limit enforcement efforts against digital crime.
Policing relies on the public trust, police legitimacy and accountability, which can be destroyed by unjustifiable police shootings (Squires and Kennninson, 2010). Within this country, there is a recognition that the police do not always adhere to the rule of law (Newburn and Reiner, 2012: 809), which has led to consistent public outrage at the lack of effectiveness and legitimacy the police has maintained. Therefore the deliberate decision to enforce police to attend to the streets unarmed was employed to reassure the public that the police were not to be feared (Waddington and Wright, 2010). Ultimately, concerns derive from the belief that the police are completely ineffective when dealing with gun crimes (Farrell, 1992: 20). However, whilst arming police with guns can act as a protector when on duty it can also cause an increase in police misconduct. This issue will be discussed throughout this essay.
As a teenager walking the streets will I be a suspect like Trayvon martin, Mike Brown, Tony Robinson and Christian Taylor. Four black male that was shot and killed by police officers. Will there ever be a chance where teens can walk down the street without being stop by a police officers. There should be a limit on when they can use there gun and to what point they should use there gun. Now as we all know the story of Trayvon martin and what they said happen but as a teen I feel as though I can walk the street and become a suspect to a police officers I do not think its cause the color of my skin well sometimes, if I feel like my life is a risk and or somebody is following me, yes I am going to fight back but George Zimmerman didn’t have to
As time goes on, the police have been one of the major issues in many countries. It should be stated that everyday American police officers face violent criminals and possible death. Between 1980 and 1989, there were 1,514 police officers killed in the line of duty. Despite the danger, the police force show amazing restraint.
Cyber security is like trying to box while being blindfolded.. Cyber instability may cause massive panic in citizens of the United States. Government surveillance is one of the platforms of cyber security and it started to erupt after the 9/11 incident. The main ways the government watches people today is with cell phone, social media, and email surveillance. Should they be able to invade our privacy? Maybe. Many crimes are committed on computers everyday whether it be credit card hacks, stolen identities, or even social media accounts taken. Cyber attacks may lead people to distrust the cyber community and the people behind cyber protection.
Every year, cybercrime costs businesses $400 billion and by 2019, cybercrime will have cost the global economy 2.1 trillion dollars (Morgan 1). But, economic loss isn’t the only problem caused by weak cybersecurity; weak cybersecurity measures could allow hackers to collect data on citizens, cause widespread death, and destroy entire nations. Despite the massive threat the problem poses, no one has yet to institute an effective solution. Although government regulation and website blocking attempt to eliminate cybercrime and cyberwarfare, an ideal solution exists in government guidance and collaboration with the private sector.
In our times, the police have become the criminals. Some police are using their power to do bad things, and society has come to fear police. The law enforcement system needs change. The courts have failed the police, and the police have turn to other means of justice. We must stop the corruption in the police force.
One possible precaution is to train police officers how to deal with life-and-death situations and how to properly handle every arrest. They should be able to comprehend every possible circumstance, and only to use violence and lethal weapons when confronted by an armed suspect. Another possible solution is to attach dashboard cameras to police cars, and inform the general public to take a video when a policeman is exhibiting misconduct or misbehavior. The police also needs to be able to break racial barriers against a population of minorities, and to properly document every misconduct to make sure that trends in police misbehavior are caught. The police department should severely punish all guilty police officers, and to allow no officer to escape
In this age of rampant digital communication, cellphones play an ever increasing role in the lives of people around the world. This can lead to major controversies surrounding them and their use. One of the big stories on the news at the beginning of the year was the issue of the ongoing case between the FBI and Apple. Many people sided with the FBI, but many people also sided with Apple. What the case came down to, in the end, was this: how much privacy must be sacrificed for the sake of security? In the words of Benjamin Franklin “those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”
Technology has opened new encounters and opportunities for the criminal justice system. There are so many new practices of criminal activity, such as computer crimes. There are different types of computer crimes that many people become victims of every day. Computer crime is any crime that involves a computer and a network. The computer may have been used in the commission of a crime, or it may be the target ("Computer Crime: Chapter 2: What Are the Crimes?", n.d.). Crimes such as data diddling, pump and dump, social engineering and spoofing are computer crimes. Even though these crimes are difficult by privacy issues, the new technology has made investigations and prosecutions well organized and effective. Though views are different on the pros and cons of specific technological changes in the criminal justice system, there is an agreement the system has changed affectedly ("Effects of Technology in Criminal Justice | eHow", n.d.).
Cybercrime and social media are two major global problems that impact society. Today, are more accessible to computers and the Internet than in years prior. Nonetheless, perpetrators attack social media with illegal activity to facilitate their crime. There are different strategies or practices by various countries to combat cybercrime. However, identity theft, cyberbullying and phishing are three major type of cybercrimes which are impacting social networking websites.
For high school students bullying and harassment can make a time of learning and new social interactions a nightmare. The possibility of being physically or verbally bullied at school,, a place where student should feel safe, is a growing peril. Unfortunately, bullying is nothing new in the United States. As well as the problem of avoiding being a victim of bullying at school, students can not escape this harsh scrutiny because of the rise of social media networks. Teenagers are being harassed on social media at alarming rates and a majority of school can do nothing about it. To understand the role social media has in the battle to prevent harassment and cyberbullying, it is essential that people identify the roles schools and students play in these situations.
There are different groups, from law enforcement agencies to the U.S. Secret Service, that are attempting to combat the problem through cooperation and preemptive efforts. If these groups combined with the public to protect themselves and the country from criminals that commit cybercrime, the nation’s network and technology servers would be much safer for technology users. Clearly, cybercrime is a problem because it puts internet users at risk of being taken advantage of or harmed. The advantages of technology and the internet have led more criminals to use cyberspace to commit crimes. The threat of cybercrime is increasing as globalization continues to spread across the world.
Firstly, the question of ethics and morals comes into play. In my opinion, it is wrong to pay someone to stop them from committing crimes. The notion of paying criminals to stay crime free almost equates to bribery. Furthermore, paying criminals to stay crime free is not fixing the problem but rather just sweeping it under the rug. The anti crime bill might be even un-ethical because according to Murphy (2014), “white folks like to pat black folks on the head, give 'em a few bucks, and think that their problems will go away. It never happens.”
Today in present, with the improvements in technology and science new concepts are integrated in our lives. Cyber crime is among those concepts that did not exist 15 to 20 years ago. In the old days only conventional crime was discussed, which refers to those traditional, illegal behaviors that most people think of as crime. In today one has to be careful not only against conventional crime but also cybercrime also known as “faceless crime” it’s the latest and the most complicated problem in the new century. Cybercrime consists of all criminal actions against communication devices in a network such as Internet, telephone lines or mobile network. Cyber crime can be observed among people at various age groups as it is easier to commit compared to other types of crime like murder, kidnapping or human trafficking.
