All right, I am pro-kitty. I mean... why would I have a whole site dedicated to them if I weren't?
So why put together an article about the reasons NOT to own a cat? Well, every year
shelters and [rescues] are inundated with cats. Often times, they end up there because
people simply do not realize all that goes into keeping them. A little while ago I posted a list of
some of the [wonderful reasons] to own a cat, so for those considering adoption, I wanted to
provide a fair and reasonable counterargument. If you've never had the honor of living with a
feline, I want you to be as educated as possible before you make the decision to do so.
CATS NEED ATTENTION
When I was growing up we had all sorts of animals. We had cats and dogs, of course, but

We had a duck... in a residential
neighborhood. We almost got a baby goat, but we figured that might be pushing it a little. My
point, though, is this: of all the animals we had in the house, the cats were by far the easiest.
Now, normally you'd associate dogs with needing a lot of time and energy, and while it's true
that cats are easier and ask for less of your resources, they are not without their demands.
As with any animal, you have to look out for their health; ensure that they are getting enough,
but not too much of, the right type of food; and that all of their needs are met.
And it isn't just about basic upkeep - no, if that were the case, you needn't worry. I mean...
you wouldn't be looking into keeping any sort of pet if you felt you were unable to keep up
with that, right? Nope. Cats need love, too. Despite their reputation for indifference, some
cats will follow you around like, you know, dogs. They will interrupt you while you're trying to
do just about anything. They will invade your privacy. They will make sure that you pay
attention to them. They aren't generally needy, but when the mood strikes them, they
Sadly this happens to various animals each year that are brought to Kill Shelters. The ASPCA has stated that three to four million animals are euthanized in shelters in the United States. An absolutely shocking 60% of all animals that belong to shelters(McLellan). Many of these animals that are irrationally killed are completely worthy of adoption. The main reason for all these senseless killings is overpopulation.
Not everyone is fond of cats, and this negative opinion has been expressed by many
In my opinion I believe that Dogs are better than cats. I want to have people to help dogs and respect dogs more because dogs help people alot.
For some, their pet is all that they have. People are never alone when at home with their pet because they are at home with family. Today, animals fill the void of loneliness that is felt by millions. When people come home after a long day, it’s their pet, or family, that brings them back. Their family will jump into their laps in excitement of seeing their loved one.
When puppies come across the border and look sick they are sent to animals shelters here in America instead of sending them back to their country of origin. ("Understanding Pet overpopulation") This causes shelters to waste already dwindling resources on animals that may never find an owner and forcing them to put the puppies down. A large portion of pet overpopulation is due to stray animals uncontrollably reproducing causing an exponential growth in the pet population and amount of stray animals. ("Fixing pet overpopulation.") As seen in "Letters to the editor" a cat could reproduce and make 100 more kittens in its life and in seven years the cats and their babies can produce around 420,000 kittens. ("Letters to the editor")That can clearly be seen as to how pet overpopulation can cause a serious increase in stray animals on the streets. Owners carry some of the burden for their part in pet overpopulation. Sometimes people unfit for pets buy them then later bring them back or surrender them. They also could have just stopped caring for them because they are no longer a puppy. In which cases it causes more undue stress of overpopulation due to their negligence. ("Pet Statistics.") Also some owners forget or just don't have enough money or want to
A soft purr, a gentle paw. A pet cat is a luxury that humans have indulged in for thousands of years, from their beginnings in Africa and the Middle East, all the way to homes here in 2014. Cats rival dogs as the most common pet in the United States, with 30.4% of houses owning 2.1 cats each (“U.S. Pet Ownership Statistics”).While working cats, such as farm cats, barn cats, and other rural, semi-feral animals may be kept for specific purposes of keeping pest animals at bay, the vast majority of kept cats in the US are pet cats, kept in homes for companionship and affection. Cat owners want the best for their pets, and as such is important to keep pet cat indoors, for their own safety as well as the safety of the local wildlife.

In general, adopting animals is beneficial and meaningful. You are not only saving animal’s lives but also preventing more animals from being bred in an inhumane way. Further, it makes everything easier while having so many advices and support. Please remember that there are still a lot of animals are waiting for you to bring them hope and lighten their life again. So next time when you are thinking of keeping an animal, go to an animal shelter and adopt
The population of New York City is about equal to the amount of homeless animals in the whole US. The number varies from state to state, as The Humane Society specified: “…in some states there are as many as 300,000 homeless animals euthanized in animal shelters every year…nationwide, more than 2.7 million healthy, adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters annually.” (humanesociety.org). Homeless, intact animals have offspring, and the offspring get caught by Animal Control. The animals then get put in shelters, and are usually euthanized. Oxford Pets and the Humane Society both broke down how many animals, usually cats and dogs, are euthanized: about 10,000 per day (humanesociety.com), or about one every eleven seconds (oxfordpets.com). While there are no-kill shelters, they become extremely crowded, very quickly. If people simply neutered their pets, these excessive yet necessary deaths would not occur, and their comrades would be significantly healthier.
Dogs, without a doubt, are better than cats. For thousands of years, this point has been proven, time and time again. We hear about amazing things that dogs do everyday for people across the globe, but the question is, what do you hear about cats? The fact of the matter is, cats are suckered. Cats have been and always will be selfish, arrogant, greedy, and self-centered jerks.
When you talk to pet owners about owning a cat versus a dog, it stirs up much controver-sy in many ways. By looking at both cats and dogs, the cat outweighs the dog in many ways, which makes the cat the superior selection when making a final decision on which one to get. Cats have very desirable qualities that make them an award winning choice to many owners. The qualities that appeal to most are the ability of the cat to live in small spaces, they do not eat large amounts of food for their meals, and they are very sedentary and independent in nature making them a low maintenance pet. One additional desired feature is cats are well suited for owners that have a very busy lifestyle and minimal time to give to their pet. This added feature
statistics show that they are the easiest animal to take care of and have some of the lowest vet
I have a love for cats. Ever since I was a teenager I always wished for a cat of my own. When I moved in a three story apartment in California, the Manager of the complex said that cats were allowed in the units. I mentioned to my Aunt at the time that I was searching in the newspapers under advertisements for cats wanted. One cool breezy evening, my Aunt called me and said that a friend of her's named Judy had a cat named Katie who did not get along with her other two cats. So I agreed to meet with Judy to see if I'd love to adopt Katie.
We all are busy people who are out of the house most of the day. We need a companion to help us ease the stress from daily life. For example, if you are purr-catinating on essays or preparing for speeches late at night, you at least have a companion by your side. A great companion is the cat, you get to pet a fluffy thing and get free scratches. Why cats? Well, cats are purr-ty interesting creatures. According to Discovery News, in 1960s, the CIA tried to turn a cat into a spy, but un-fur-tunately, they failed when the cat was ran over by a cab. Another interesting fact according to Buzzfeed is female cats are typically right-pawed while male cats are typically left-pawed. There is also a cat island named Tashirojima that are terrorized by stray cats in Japan. The main problem is there are too many cats in the shelters that need a home, according to ASPCA, approximately 3.4 million cats enter the shelters every year. Well the solution to this is you can adopt a cat. There are a few things you need to do before adopting a cat.
Two Ways of Viewing Cats and Dogs Cats and dogs share several similarities, but they are very different. These two animals are two of the most popular pets today.
