Sweeping floors, washing counters, and rinsing dishes. As a high school student, these are the three things farthest from the mind on a Friday night. Some stay focused on getting a win at the basketball homecoming game; whereas, others quietly search for the secret parties to attend throughout the night. Even though labored work is not the ideal way to spend someone 's free time, it teaches teenagers the importance of responsibility, initiative, and independence. When I was seventeen, I decided to apply for my first place of employment. I applied to several different locations; I applied to fast food stores and retail stores. I did lose hope, but eventually I received my first call about for an interview. My parents helped me with this new process. Waiting for someone to call was the most nerve racking and anxiety filled time of my life. Even though there was great stress, waiting for someone to call taught me the great virtue called patience. Once I finally got the opportunity to join the Chicago’s Pizza team, my patience was tested yet again. I developed more patience when customers called the store; even though, most had no idea what the menu was or what they desired to purchase (personal-experience). Being exposed to difficult people like this on almost a daily basis helped me learn how to be patient with complete strangers. When your patience level is not very high it could make things difficult when dealing with arguments. This could also result in major disputes between everyone in the household (hypothetical example). Also imagine if there is not patience when purchasing an expensive car or a home. A person could end up with a vehicle or a home that is not properly suited for them, because they bought the first home they laid eyes on (hypothetical example). Learning the skills of patience has helped me become more independent as a person and rely less on what others are pressuring me to
Students spend four years of their lives attending high school. Going through high school is mandatory as it prepares them for college and strength to face “the real world.” Having part-time jobs has become the phenomenon among high school students and many students follow this trend as well. Moreover, there are some pros and cons attached with it. Though it may seem like working throughout high school is a bad idea, it could better prepare students for “the real world.” Although some people believe that the primary duty of a student is studying, I am of the opposite position. I strongly support the idea that high school students should work throughout high school. This is because they can earn money, become responsible and get experience.
Homelessness is a condition of people without a regular residence. People who are homeless are usually unable to acquire and maintain regular, safe, secure, and adequate housing. Homeless people constitute a demographically diverse population, and the situation is a critical problem in United States. The homeless are known as “the wondering poor”, “sturdy beggars”, and “vagrants”. This condition often occurs due to poverty, but this is only one of many reasons a person can be homeless. In addition to poverty, homelessness occurs as a result of drugs, mental illness, disasters such as hurricanes, or even domestic abuse. It is not a criminal activity.
There has been a significant increase in homelessness in United States where it is approximated that currently there are over 750,000 men and women who are homeless. However this essay presents a strong argument that the US government should commit efforts toward eradicating this social problem.
Homelessness in America is almost an epidemic. There are millions of people in the United States alone who suffer from homelessness, meaning they are without, a roof over their head at night, and without food. Many people just overlook it, and don’t realize how big of an issue this really is. Being homeless just doesn’t happen in a specific part of the United States, it happens everywhere across the country, even in the places you would never expect. It happens in the wealthiest of places, and the poorest of places, one place being Newark, Ohio, and the local communities surround it. With it being so close to where we live, there is so much we could be doing to help those who are suffering from it, but instead we drive right by them not even
Home school education has been growing exponentially in America over the past couple decades as more and more families are deciding to cultivate their kids’ educations in a more personalized fashion. Parents choose to home school their children for a large variety of reasons. The most popular reasons for this decision include dissatisfaction with the current education system, religious freedom in education, and personalized education for certain skillsets. Home school educations grew in popularity as the Internet became more prevalent in culture. The Internet allowed parents to access more educational materials from home and communicate with other home school families across the globe. Home school has had an impact on the identities of students
The difficulty of knowing what truly exists versus what is a fabrication of our unwitting senses is a problem that confounds daily living. An example from personal experience is the first-time purchase of a home. In the early 2000s, the price of real estate started an upward trend that led to over valued property, and eventually gave rise to the real estate boom and bust of the decade. Some first-time home buyers had a certain naïveté in the practice of house hunting. The psychological effect of watching demand outpace supply is that it creates a feeling of wanting to take the first “good thing”, especially for first-time home buyers who may unknowingly wear rose-colored glasses. The housing boom created an illusion of ever increasing home equity. It was difficult to walk away from potential homes that seemed good on the surface, but in reality were either money pits or less than desirable.
Homelessness has gained mass attention throughout the world. It’s an ongoing, insoluble issue that continues to exist and affect many in the Unites States. “Approximately 3.5 million people are homeless in the United States at any given time” (McBride, 2012). Sadly, due to the nature of homelessness, it is difficult to obtain an accurate number of the homeless population (McBride, 2012). Many people have negative prejudice views of homeless individuals. Self-worth, dignity, as well as trustworthy affects the homeless, often questioned by society. Through the testimony of John Doe, a better understanding will enlighten others, myself included, and bring awareness to this mass population.
It doesn 't seem to matter what the weather is like, what time of year it is or where I am. I have never gotten used to sleeping outside. At first it felt like camping, it was warm and the park was nice, I was young and saw it as an adventure. As time went on however the cold reality of how I was living set in. My part time job didn’t produce enough money for me to afford a place to live and college was eating away my savings. I ended up couch surfing until I started to feel like a burden and that 's when I started sleeping outside. Not long after this decision I lost my job, since no one really wants a homeless college kid working for them. After I lost my job I withdrew from college, since I had no way to pay for it. All of sudden I was a twenty-something, jobless, homeless, college dropout. Every dream I had was dead, and the only goal I had was finding a place to sleep at night and food to eat.
...my relationships with family, friends and loved ones I have a habit of not dealing with disappointing feelings right away because I don’t want to cause conflict. My feelings begin to fester and I become more sensitive to other things that normally wouldn’t tick me off, but do, because I am still upset about the first problem. Before you know it, I blow up and everything comes out anyway. Usually the person I am upset with has to hear about what they did a month ago and everything in between. This puts that person on the defense and nothing really gets accomplished until a few days later when we all calm down to discuss the issue. So logically if I dealt with my feelings in the beginning, the blowouts could be avoided and I could calmly get my point across with little conflict.
It is very common that many high school students hold part time jobs while going to school. When these teens work, they are able to learn and experience life lessons from ethical and moral work. Knowing that school is aways and should be a priority, students should work while in high school because working helps students be more responsible with their lives, help them practice time managment, and also helps students see and experience the real world.
I work at Geneva Ace Hardware. My most important job, among my many duties, is to help customers. Usually everything goes ok, but there are always a few customers that can be hard to deal with. I’ve had to deal with Mexicans who can barely speak English. I’ve had to deal with Mexicans who use their 5 year old children/grandchildren as translators. I once had to deal with a Canadian couple whose accent was so rich; I would have about a 30 second delayed response to try to convert their English into my English. Then there are the people who just won’t accept my help because I’m only a kid. None of these people compare to the dude that was deaf.

For teenagers typically the best employment is during the summer months due to the fact that they are out of school and thus have an increased amount of leisure time and many places require an extra source labor in order to accommodate for the rush which typically occurs during the summer months (Hall, 2013). In the year 1999 just above fifty-two percent of teenagers from the age of sixteen to the age of nineteen were employed for a summer job, however; the current employment rate for the same age group was around 32.25 percent in the past June and July an extremely low number especially considering that this was the peak teenage employment season (Hall, 2013). This has been compared to the great depression by some due to the fact that the numbers are somewhat similar to those seen during the great depression, in fact An...
Even Thomas Edison agrees with having patience is a key trait to master to be successful in the goal you have for yourself, here is what Thomas Edison said, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” This shows that a lot of people started to become impatient once they were very close to clench the glory that they were about to achieve, so this shows that you always need to be patient for the opportunity of when your close to your achievement and to never give up. With patience you will always have remarkable results. That is because a person who is dedicated to their goal, will see the marvelous results that will happen because they didn’t give up, whenever a person is trying to achieve something they always need to keep in mind that what they want to achieve doesn’t happen
